Yankees Predicted to Trade Trent Grisham to Phillies in 3-Team Blockbuster

The New York Yankees are headed toward the trade deadline with some clear needs to fill if they want to reignite hope of returning to the World Series. After giving up their lead in the division to the Toronto Blue Jays shortly before the All-Star break, the team has seemed light in several key areas, including the rotation, bullpen and around the diamond. "I would import a starter, some relievers, because our bullpen is taxed and some injuries. And an infielder, if possible," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman explained recently, according to Phillip Martinez of SNY. "That's a long list." To try and address all of those needs, the Yankees might have to get creative and could have to trade away some big-league ready talent. That's the expectation for CBS Sports' Mike Axisa, who predicted Cashman would deal outfielder Trent Grisham to the Philadelphia Phillies, who would in turn send some prospects to the Minnesota Twins to bring infielder Willi Castro to the Yankees. (Photo by) Chambers/Getty "The Phillies and Yankees don't match up well for an outfielder-for-third baseman trade, which is where the Twins come in," Axisa wrote. "Rental Grisham for rental Castro makes no sense for Minnesota. If they're selling, they wont' want a rental. They'll want controllable young players, so a three-time trade in which Grisham goes to Philadelphia, Phillies prospects go to Minnesota, and Castro goes to the Yankees could be in the cards." On paper, this trade projection may be complicated but it does make sense for each participant. Castro would mark a significant third base upgrade over Oswald Peraza for the Yankees, as he's slashing .257/.347/.431. And Grisham would be a defensive and offensive boost for the Phillies, who haven't gotten much production out of the trio of Johan Rojas, Brandon Marsh and Max Kepler. Meanwhile, the Yankees can replace Grisham's at-bats with Cody Bellinger, Jasson Dominguez and Aaron Judge in the outfield. Though it's convoluted, this prediction could be an effective way to turn the Yankees' outfield surplus into a much-needed infield boost. Braves Expected To Consider Trading $73 Million All-Star: Report

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Atlanta Braves have been one of the more disappointing teams in baseball this year, and it's been quite shocking to watch. While the team came into the year with World Series expectations, it's quickly plummeted down the standings and look to be aggressive sellers at the trade deadline. While the Braves should be expected to trade their expiring contracts, there are also some players on controllable deals who could be moved. USA Today's Bob Nightengale recently reported the Braves are expected to listen to trade offers for their Gold Glove catcher, Sean Murphy, and it makes perfect sense as to why. ATLANTA, GEORGIA - JULY 19: Trent Grisham #12 of the New York Yankees reacts after hitting a grand slam in the ninth inning against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on July 19, 2025 in... More Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images "Atlanta is expected to listen to trade offers for second baseman Ozzie Albies, center fielder Michael Harris, and catcher Sean Murphy, but not until this winter," Nightengale wrote. "They are letting teams know that DH Marcell Ozuna, closer Raisel Iglesias, and reliever Pierce Johnson are all available. Ozuna, who has 10-and-5 rights, can veto any trade." Trading Murphy makes sense for a few reasons, but the top reason is the emergence of top prospect Drake Baldwin. Baldwin doesn't look like a future star. He looks like a star right now. The 24-year-old has been worth 2.0 WAR as he's slugged 11 home runs in under 200 at-bats. He's been sound defensively, too. There's no reason for the Braves to roster two star catchers, especially when there are so many holes on the team. They need to prioritize the farm system, and moving Murphy in a massive trade would be just what they need ahead of the trade deadline. Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr gets into shouting match with Braves' third base coach

New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Atlanta Braves third base coach Eddie Perez had words with each other during the teams' matchup on Saturday night. The YES Network broadcast showed Chisholm yelling over toward the Braves' dugout as he stood on third base in the top of the sixth inning. Chisholm appeared to be telling Perez to "cry about it." Perez appeared to signal that Chisholm was going to get hit in the head the next time the batting order came around. "I hope so," Chisholm replied. The issue between Chisholm and Perez may have stemmed from the coach getting upset that the star infielder was giving Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe signals during his at-bat. Chisholm was standing at second base and started touching his chest within Volpe's eyesight. Perez told reporters after the game he saw Chisholm giving the signals and denied that he was threatening to have someone hit him in the head, rather he tried to tell him to "think," according to the New York Post. "I'm not entirely sure (what was going on)," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the game. "I know they were saying some things that will probably be looked at and should be." Chisholm declined to comment. The Yankees put together a comeback win after being down 7-2 heading into the sixth inning. New York came back to tie the game at eight apiece in the eighth inning. Then, Trent Grisham hit a go-ahead grand slam to push New York ahead in the ninth. It was Grisham's 17th dinger of the year. New York won the game 12-9. New York improved to 54-44 on the year and Atlanta fell to 43-54. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Yankees, after battering Braves' bullpen, striving for series win

July 20 - The New York Yankees will try to ride the momentum from one of their most impressive victories of the season to a series win on Sunday when they complete a three-game road set against the Atlanta Braves. The Yankees trailed 5-0 and 7-2 on Saturday before coming back to win the game on Trent Grisham's grand slam in the ninth inning. The victory ended New York's three-game losing streak and kept the Yankees three games behind Toronto in the American League East. New York is trying to win the season series against Atlanta for the first time since 2021. "It's a big win, but no one is surprised," said New York's Anthony Volpe, who had two homers and a sacrifice fly in the victory. "We're confident in each other and we know we could do this every night." A pair of right-handers will get the start in the series finale -- New York's Marcus Stroman (1-1, 6.66 ERA) against Atlanta's Grant Holmes (4-8, 3.77). Stroman missed 2 1/2 months with knee inflammation and didn't return until June 29. In the three starts since his return from the injured list, Stroman is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA. In three early-season starts before the injury, he was 0-1 with an 11.57 ERA, allowing 12 runs in 9 1/3 innings. "I'm just pitching confident," Stroman said. "Just really allowing myself to be myself. I'm not shying away from who I am as a pitcher." In his most recent appearance on July 10 against the Seattle Mariners, Stroman pitched five innings and allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts. The Yankees won 6-5 in 10 innings. "Just another gritty performance," New York manager Aaron Boone said afterward. "I thought he pitched well." Stroman has been effective against the Braves. In nine career starts, he's 5-3 with a 2.82 ERA. He faced Atlanta once in 2024 and got a win after throwing 6 2/3 innings and allowing three runs in an 8-3 Yankees' victory. Holmes has grown his role from being a spot starter to the No. 2 man in a rotation that has been hammered by injuries. This will be his 20th start of the season, and he has produced eight quality starts. Holmes has been hampered by the lack of run support. In only one of his eight losses have the Braves scored more than one run. But Holmes struggled with a high pitch count and shaky control in his final outing before the All-Star break on July 11 at St. Louis. He worked three innings and threw 86 pitches, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks, with a season-low one strikeout. Holmes has made one career appearance against the Yankees, throwing one scoreless inning of relief last season. It would be helpful if Holmes could work deep into the game and give the Atlanta bullpen a rest. The relievers struggled on Saturday, allowing nine hits, four of them homers. Rafael Montero was the only one of six relievers who did not allow a run. "We just didn't do a real good job after the fourth," Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said. "It's going to be hard to sustain that, you know, where you're using everybody. ... They're going to need to be big for us." --Field Level Media

Grisham's tiebreaking slam in 9th completes Yankees comeback against Braves

ATLANTA — Trent Grisham hit a tiebreaking grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning and the New York Yankees rallied from five runs down to beat the Atlanta Braves 12-9 on Saturday night before a crowd of 42,530, the largest this season at Truist Park. Anthony Volpe homered twice and finished with four RBIs for the Yankees, including a tying shot in the eighth. Cody Bellinger went deep in the seventh to help New York stop a three-game slide.
