Parents force teen son to live in shed for MONTHS and use leaves for toilet paper
A 16-year-old boy was allegedly forced to live in an outside shed for months by his parents - and had to use leaves as toilet paper. Grace Sensenig, 42, and Daryl Sensenig, 41, were arrested by police after they allegedly forced their son to live in a wooden shed due to "inappropriate behaviours." Officers were called to their home in Pennsylvania after reports of a domestic incident. Police said the dad had tackled the boy and "had a pressure point applied to the victim's neck" following an argument. Missing boy, 7, found dead inside washing machine as family member is jailed for heinous crime
A Texas father has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after his 7-year-old adopted son was discovered dead inside a washing machine at the family's home. Jermaine Thomas, from Spring, Texas, was convicted of murder nearly three years after the horrific 2022 death of little Troy Koehler, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office. Troy was reported missing on July 28, 2022, when Jermaine told deputies he came home late and found the front door open and his son gone. But police soon discovered Troy's body inside the washing machine in the garage. Troy's body was found stuffed inside the top-loading machine just hours after Thomas called police claiming the boy had vanished in the middle of the night. But investigators revealed that Troy had been abused leading up to his death. An autopsy showed the child had suffered multiple injuries, both new and healing, with evidence of asphyxiation, blunt-force trauma, and possible drowning, according to KPRC. Prosecutors say Troy's adoptive parents were enraged over missing snacks like oatmeal cream pies and donut sticks, and used them as justification for the abuse. At one point, Troy's adoptive mother, Tiffany Thomas, allegedly threatened to put him in the oven until he confessed to eating her food. Court records reveal the chilling message Jermaine sent to his wife: 'I need to get the [locks]. I'm going to end up [killing] him.' During the sentencing hearing, Sheryl Reed, Troy's first-grade teacher, recalled the bright, book-loving boy who once dreamed of becoming a leader. 'Today a reader, tomorrow a leader. That was always Troy. He loved reading. If he finished early, he'd head straight to our class library.' She recalled how Troy would rush to the classroom library and then happily share stories with classmates. 'Then he'd go right back to share those stories with lifting others up with the joy he carried.' 'But Troy wasn't just leading his classmates-he led me, too. He led me to become a better teacher, a better mentor, and a better person,' she continued. 'His energy, his smile, and his love for learning reminded me daily why I chose this path.' It's unclear if the boy's mother ever faced charges.

According to a press release from the Harris County District Attorney's Office and court records reviewed by PEOPLE on Wednesday, July 30, Jemaine Thomas, 45, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for murdering Troy after pleading guilty. Troy's former first-grade teacher, Sheryl Reed, read a victim impact statement in court. 'Today a reader, tomorrow a leader. That was always Troy. He loved reading. If he finished early, he'd head straight to our class library. Then he'd go right back to share those stories with lifting others up with the joy he carried," she said. Court records reviewed by PEOPLE show that Troy's adoptive mother, Tiffany Thomas, 38, has been charged with injury to a child under 15 b/injury. Her bond has been set at $300,000. She pleaded guilty and her sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 10. An additional charge of injury to a child by omission was previously made against Tiffany but dismissed, court records show. As previously reported by PEOPLE, Jemaine and Tiffany are believed to have adopted Troy in 2019. Troy was discovered dead on July 28, 2022, when his parents filed a missing persons report. When officers arrived at the home, they "did a brief interview for the missing person report" with Troy's parents, Lt. Robert Minchew of the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit said in a previous press conference. "Things that they observed led them to search the house thoroughly at that point. They found a deceased 7-year-old child in the washing machine in the garage," he said. Troy was found clothed in the top-loading washing machine at 7:20 a.m. According to court documents reviewed by KPRC 2 Houston, Troy was threatened with being put inside an oven, after he allegedly ate some of Tiffany's oatmeal cream pies. Prosecutors said text messages revealed Jemaine was also upset after allegedly discovering that Troy had eaten his doughnut sticks. 'I need to get the [locks]. I'm going to end up kill[ing] him," he allegedly wrote in the text message, per KPRC 2 Houston. In November 2022, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced on X that forensic scientists conducted an autopsy on Troy, which revealed that he "suffered new and previous injuries" as a result of the incident.
