Wind Breaker – Season 2 Episode 10 Recap & Review
Episode 10 As the fight continues, Tsubaki says GRAVEL's trying to steal Shizuka's love, and he takes that personally. Compared to that pain, his punches mean nothing. Then, in an awesome counter, he slams Suzuri's head to the ground. All his team members get worried about him and scream his name, which confuses Sakura. However, their leader gets back up easily and tells Tsubaki that everything he's saying is idealistic, highlighting how far apart their realities are. When Suzuri was a child, he hated seeing his friends fight over food. So, he convinced them to start sharing, which resulted in everyone having crumbs for a meal. They didn't remember the last time they had their stomachs full, but at least they weren't turning against each other. When he realized they'd never achieve anything and die a pointless death, he had to act. That's how he united them and created GRAVEL. Tsubaki keeps talking about how painful loss is, but he never had anything to begin with. So, it doesn't matter what he says, it's all static to him. That's when the boy charges desperately, making the brawl even more frenetic than before. But that sparks a change in Tsubaki, as well. He realizes the pain Suzuri's going through, even if he doesn't fully understand it. When he defeats Suzuri, and the boy can't move anymore, he says he's sorry. Now, Tsubaki wants to do anything he can to help him and the other GRAVEL members. In accordance, Kanji and other people from the district tell them that many stores are opening or require new employees. That way, they can follow a new path without giving up on what they love. After that, Suzuri gives up and accepts the opportunity. He also apologizes to all his friends, saying he forced them down the wrong path. Even though he expects a bad response, they immediately acknowledge his new decision. They're all a unit, so they must stay together. Then, Tsubaki scolds Shizuka. When she tried to give up and turn herself in, she was trampling on everybody's feelings. Tsubaki wants her to understand that she can never do that again. Then, Shizuka says she's sorry, and both of them start hugging and crying. As Kanji tries to diffuse the situation, his friends start teasing him about how he and Shizuka should already be dating. Suou then jokes about it with Sakura, expecting the boy to be flustered by the couple's talk. However, he's lost in his thoughts. Sakura tells Kanji he can't stand the way his group fights. At first, he thought their mentality was cool, but he changed his mind after realizing what it meant. Even though he understands it's naive, he doesn't want any of his friends to get hurt. And Kanji agrees with him. He can't do that, but he believes Sakura should try. The boy's smart and strong enough to achieve that one day. Even if it's idealistic, it's the best possible outcome. Right when everything seems peaceful, Kanji remembers someone hired GRAVEL to kidnap Shizuka. Although Suzuri believes he can talk things out and solve the problem, it seems 'the problem' is already there. Suddenly, a tattooed man calls him a loser and affirms he can't do anything. It turns out he is the same guy who appeared after the KREEL fight, and Tsubaki knows him. To the point, he seems scared to see the man there. The Episode Review After KREEL, it's nice seeing an antagonist who isn't actually a villain. Not to mention that understanding what's going through his mind and what motivated him to become who he is. Suzuri having a deeper story is a nice surprise. It's similar to what happened with Tomiyama and Togame in season 1. They're all teenagers, and Wind Breaker tries to be realistic, so it wouldn't make sense if they were cartoonishly horrible people. So, if Suzuri isn't the real villain, who is? Well, we don't know him yet, but he already seems incredible. The tattooed man clearly has a connection to Furin and has been orchestrating many things until now. The anime has yet to explain how Umemiya changed the school and who made it the way it was before. Hence, there's definitely a story there. It feels weird that this is happening as a cliffhanger to the next episode, instead of to the following season. However, it also makes the final stretch of the season even more exciting. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Wind Breaker – Season 2 Episode 8 Recap & Review
Episode 8 Tsubaki orders the boys plenty of food from the club to thank them for helping him before. Now, Ito-san has been dressing up and going out almost daily, as he wants to have new stories to tell when he meets Yui again. In all his happiness, Tsubaki orders dessert for them, but he doesn't realize his vice-captains, Seiryu and Uryu, are also taking the food for themselves. Realizing his mistake, he puts a stop to the orders. He also explains how he ended up dancing in the club. He fell in love with pole dancing when he learned about it, so he instantly searched for places to dance. Unfortunately, there were none close to Furin. His only option was to try joining this club, which accepted him. That's when Kanji arrives and teases him for crying when he asked to join them. He also thanks the boys for helping them and talks more about Roppo-Ichiza. He's the group's watchman, and their mission is to stop any conflict around the area. They're much like Furin, although Umemiya has done far greater and more complex work to change the school and its surroundings. As the lights go out, everyone turns their attention to the stage and Shizuka. She enchants all clients with her beautiful and soothing singing. It feels like she could even bring them to tears with such an amazing skill. However, their happiness soon ends. The guys who attacked her before arrive again and start wreaking havoc outside the club. Kanji doesn't tell Tsubaki anything, as he doesn't want him to worry. He wants to leave alone, but Sakura, Nirei, and Suou go out the door before he can refuse their help. There are more thugs than before, but that's not a problem for Roppo-Ichiza. Even though they're a small team, all of them are elites. Each of them swiftly knocks out two or three guys without help or breaking a sweat. The kids watch the scene with surprise, but something more incredible is yet to happen. When one of the gangsters demands that they bring Shizuka, Kanji destroys him with a single punch. But he doesn't stop there and clobbers a few more guys, displaying a protective aura similar to Umemiya's. Kanji continuously pummels all the other gangsters with ease, as if he could win the fight all by himself. When two guys attack him at the same time, Sakura comes to his rescue and defeats one of them. The boy's strength even impresses other members of the Roppo-Ichiza, like Akihito Miyoshi, who's fighting by Suou's side. While everyone is fighting, Nirei wonders what he could do to help. He understands he can't do what he did during the brawl against KEEL, so he stays back and reflects. He also realizes they are almost out of enemies, meaning the fight is almost over. At least, it'd be good if it actually meant that… Suddenly, a new group arrives, unconcerned by the several knocked-out men on the floor. They are GRAVEL, a team from the Sunaba district, which is incredibly poor, resulting in many of its citizens resorting to burglary and other crimes. Their leader says they'll get paid if they take Shizuka, so he tries to reason with Kanji. Obviously, neither the Roppo-Ichiza nor the Furin boys will give up without a fight. But Kanji surprises him and Sakura by saying he doesn't even care if he loses the fight; no matter what happens, no one will touch the girl. The Episode Review Wind Breaker expands its world in a really interesting way. Although it has a 'gang of the arc' style (similar to a villain of the day type of deal), they always serve a bigger purpose. For example, KEEL transformed Sakura into a better leader and made him understand his weaknesses. And they paint a clearer picture of the city for us. So, even if we don't know their lasting effects, GRAVEL and Roppo-Ichiza show how other people band together to fight against a situation. Be it poverty or simply guaranteeing entertainment for others. It's also entertaining to think about how they'll affect the protagonists. Even though it's too soon to say, Kanji's mindset about losing a fight not mattering will probably influence Sakura in some way. He has just started thinking about depending on others, but he's still obsessed with fighting and winning. So, he might actually learn a thing or two from losing (or fighting differently). Still, it's an odd choice to take Tsubaki out of the fight. We learn a lot about the characters from seeing them confront other gangsters, so he'll probably find his way into the conflict later. It'll be even greater if the creator adapts his style to his way of thinking or flexibility. He enjoys dancing, so seeing that affect his brawls would be a nice touch. In Los Angeles, Courtney Kaplan says sake is having a moment
A long, white oak counter anchors the intimate space of Ototo, behind which a row of sake bottles are fixed to the wall like beer taps. In the cozy, private dining room, warmly backlit shelves display an eclectic collection of o-choko and tokkuri — sake cups and flasks — nestled among ceramic cats. Meaning "little brother" in Japanese, Ototo is located next to its sibling restaurant Tsubaki in Los Angeles' Echo Park neighborhood. At the helm of what many consider the city's most exciting sake selection is sommelier Courtney Kaplan, 46, who, alongside Japanese American chef Charles Namba, her partner in business and life, has created a Californian sanctuary for sake lovers and the sake-curious alike. Becoming one of America's most influential sake experts wasn't part of Kaplan's original plan, though. "I did not intend to end up in hospitality," admits the American restaurateur. Despite its appearances, Ototo styles itself as a casual watering hole where even novices can drop in to learn more about Japan's national drink. | WYATT NAOKI CONLON Her journey began in 1999, during an undergraduate study abroad program in Tokyo, where she got her first taste of restaurant work at a yakiniku (grilled meat) establishment. The immersive experience proved transformative, allowing her to develop both her language skills and an appreciation for Japanese hospitality. By 2003, Kaplan was back in New York and working as a translator at the New York bureau of Nikkei when her roommate suggested she apply to Decibel, the city's pioneering sake bar. Despite her limited sake knowledge, she got the job and embarked upon what would become a career-defining experience. At Decibel, she learned through immersion — tasting extensively with colleagues and meeting visiting sake brewers, often sampling open bottles together after closing time. After furthering her sake education at En Japanese Brasserie, a trailblazing izakaya (Japanese pub) in New York, and meeting Namba, the two relocated to Namba's native Los Angeles in 2010. Eventually, in 2017, the couple opened Tsubaki, serving modern Japanese fare in a relaxed but refined setting, followed by Ototo in 2019. "We wanted an izakaya that reflected LA — seasonal, dynamic, composed," says Kaplan. 'Not necessarily authentic Japanese but through our lens and experience.' As opposed to creating its offerings from its food on, the menu at Ototo is designed to "taste good with sake." | WYATT NAOKI CONLON Dinner at Tsubaki is a sit-down affair with a sophisticated menu — think dishes like kanpachi (yellowtail) crudo and charcoal-grilled blue prawns with garlic-chive butter — whereas Ototo welcomes walk-ins to drop in for a casual glass and bar snacks. Through Ototo's carefully curated selection of more than 50 varieties of sake by the glass, Kaplan continues to showcase the beverage's diversity, introducing guests to everything from "really meaty, savory" flavors to "spritzy yamahai,' she says, referring to a style of sake characterized by high acidity and umami. The menu of Japanese-inflected comfort food — including a popular Japanese-style chili burger, savory okonomiyaki pancakes with rock shrimp, and oden (seafood and vegetables simmered in broth) — is designed specifically to complement the sake. 'We decided to create a menu that tastes good with sake as opposed to finding sake that tastes good with this food," she explains. Their culinary vision has continued to evolve. In 2023, Kaplan and Namba launched Camelia, a Japanese-French bistro concept that quickly captivated diners and critics alike, garnering two prestigious James Beard awards in 2024 for Best New Restaurant and Outstanding Beverage Program. At Camelia, Kaplan approaches sake pairing differently, selecting styles with 'glutamate depth' to complement the restaurant's richer, sauce-based dishes, like the pairing of Tedorigawa Brewery's yamahai daiginjō (a brew made with rice polished down to at least 50%) with chicken with kōji (Japan's national mold), seaweed cream sauce and grilled cabbage. in terms of popularity, Courtney Kaplan believes sake is approaching a moment of critical mass. | WYATT NAOKI CONLON "For me it's a pairing of harmony rather than contrast," she says "The sake has a soft, velvety texture and underlying umami that brings out the caramelized flavors that the kōji helps develop in the chicken and also echoes the luxurious cream sauce. While rich, the sake still drinks clean and bright." Central to Kaplan's mission is education. Her Sunday Sake School events have become an institution, offering themed tastings with down-to-earth tasting notes that explore everything from rice varieties to brewing methods. "The number one thing I hear is, 'I love sake but don't know how to learn about it,'" she says. "People felt lost at sea." For years, Los Angeles lagged behind New York in sake appreciation, but recently Kaplan has witnessed a significant shift. "A big tipping point was really having wine people coming in excited about sake," she notes, adding that the inclusion of sake on menus at LA's non-Japanese fine dining restaurants like Providence and Majordomo helped push the drink's profile. "I do feel like this might actually be the moment for sake in the U.S. I've heard that many times before, but now I believe it."

We hope you love our recommendations! Some may have been sent as samples, but all were independently selected by our editors. Just FYI, BuzzFeed and its publishing partners may collect a share of sales and/or other compensation from the links on this page. Kids are expensive, but making their room a special space doesn't have to be. 1. A plush diaper caddy basket with a wipeable surface (which is, to be frank, unnervingly necessary) that's so surprisingly stylish you just might forget the terrible purpose it serves. Just kidding, new parents, diapers aren't THAT bad. Particularly if you have a caddy this cute. This can create a warm, earthy, and inviting space for your child without turning them into a sad beige baby. Bless. Promising review:"This is my second diaper caddy to own. I got a new one for my second child because the last one became a toy carrier for my daughter. This one is beautiful and looks like the color that is pictured. It's also very sturdy where some are flimsy. I organized mine with the essentials. It's able to fit plenty of diapers, wipes, burp rags, diaper cream, gripe water, etc. which made it very easy to use and take all over the house. The dividers come out — they are attached by Velcro but are easy to put together or take off if you want to adjust it." — Katie Mabe Get it from Amazon for $22.99+ (available in eight colors). 2. A personalized pennant for highlighting the MVP in your life with a snazzy flag that's all their own. Amazon, Mallory Mower / BuzzFeed Rosanbella is a small business specializing in personalized nursery and infant goods. Each piece can have up to ten letters, with two sizes available for the best fit. The image on the right is of my daughter's pennant! I love the thought of a piece of decor from infancy staying in her room as she grows up. Get it from Amazon for $17.99. 3. A giant botanical wall decal so your little sprout can have their very own secret garden in a little nook of their room. These are super easy to put up; just peel and stick the six floral strips! Promising review:"This creates a very cute cottagecore vibe. It's a little tricky to put up with three separate sheets for the bottom, middle, and top. I ordered two to cover the whole wall. All in all I'm very happy with this. It makes my nursery super cute — perfect for baby girl on her way! I might end up ordering more for the other side of the wall." — Tsubaki Get it from Amazon for $9.99+ (available in 16 styles). 4. A collection of wooden decorative eggs for giving their nursery's "outside-in" decor an eggcelent addition that'll look like whimsy in its chicest sense. I own these! I bought this for my toddler and *love* using it to teach her color theory! Thanks, Professor Peacock. Amazon Promising review:"Great for pretend play! My daughter loves using this to look through when she is reading or looking out the window. The peacock is beautiful and well made. Great to take on car rides…small size fits in small hands easily." — AMF Get it from Amazon for $27.99. 7. A terribly charming toadstool tent sure to be beloved by imaginative kids who prefer pretend play to structured sets and games. If your family has too much energy for your *regular* house, send your little faeries off into the "forest" and have them scavenge for things to fill up their toadstool home. Promising review:"The mushroom playhouse tent added enchantment to my daughter's 4th fairy-themed birthday party! It does come folded so I may need to take a steamer to it. It's exactly what I wanted it to be." — Sarah Ross Get it from Amazon for $20.99+ (available in five styles). 24. A convertible crib — an investment-worthy piece that'll save you a lot in the long run, as it can be used as a crib, a toddler bed, and a daybed. The timeless design is great for folks who know they're gonna get attached to their baby's crib and never want to let it go. Thanks to this, you won't have to! Plus, transitioning from a crib to a toddler bed is gonna be a *lot* easier when your kiddo doesn't actually have to say "goodbye" to their crib. Bless.
