Tuchel wants England to feel the heat before World Cup boot camp in Miami
Thomas Tuchel is planning a warm-weather training break for his England squad next March followed by a pre-World Cup boot camp in Miami in June because of concerns about the impact of high temperatures on the players during the tournament in the US. The England head coach has altered the Football Association's usual travel itinerary this week by taking his squad to Barcelona for a six-day training camp to work them hard in the heat before the World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Saturday. Similar trips are on the agenda for next year. Advertisement Related: Tuchel tells Alexander-Arnold to take England defensive role 'very seriously' Tuchel is working with the FA's medical and sports science departments on strategies to mitigate the effects of high temperatures and he is also keen to give the players as much exposure to extreme conditions as possible. The German intends to pay particular attention to the physical condition of the players when attending games at the Club World Cup this month, while the FA will also send operational staff to the tournament in the US to scout for World Cup training bases and hotels. Tuchel is understood to have expressed a preference for a pre-World Cup training camp in Miami in 12 months' time before England move to their tournament base. The location of the base will depend on the December draw. A long-haul trip for warm-weather training during the March international break may be unpopular with club managers concerned about potential burnout before the Premier League and Champions League run-in, but that will not concern Tuchel. Advertisement After his first game in charge against Albania in March, Tuchel warned top-flight managers that he intended to pick his strongest side whenever possible. The 51-year-old also questioned Mikel Arteta's decision to select Declan Rice for the second leg of Arsenal's Champions League last-16 tie against PSV Eindhoven the previous week, given they had won the first leg 7-1. Tuchel will have the freedom to take his side away next season if England win their World Cup qualifying group to avoid the playoffs. The FA would normally stage two lucrative matches at Wembley before a summer tournament but will support Tuchel' s plans to go away if he concludes it is the best preparation for the World Cup. While the destination has yet to be decided the Middle East is a possibility given the world-class training facilities on offer in hot conditions and the smaller time difference compared with travelling to the US. FA sources said the final decision would be made at the end of England's qualifying campaign.

England stars soak up sun at F1 Spanish GP ahead of Andorra World Cup qualifier
England's World Cup qualifier away to Andorra will be played in Barcelona next Saturday and the Three Lions began their week in Spain by going to watch the Formula 1 England's stars swapped football for Formula 1 on Sunday as they put on their glad rags and attended the sun-kissed Spanish Grand Prix. The Three Lions face Andorra next Saturday and the game will be played at Espanyol's home stadium in Barcelona. Taking the opportunity for a change of scenery, England's players will spend the next week in Spain ahead of the World Cup qualifier. Before starting their warm-weather training camp, Thomas Tuchel's squad were given VIP tickets to the Grand Prix. The likes of Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and boss Tuchel were on the grid, meeting teams and drivers. There was even an awkward moment when Saka snubbed an interview with Sky Sports ' Simon Lazenby and ex-world champion Nico Rosberg in the build-up to the start of the rice. England's players looked suave in the heat of Barcelona, with many attending a Formula 1 Grand Prix for the first time. That included captain Kane, who told Sky: "I'm good, I'm hot. First one, I'm looking forward to it, I watch the F1 as much as I can, a few of the English guys are doing well this season, so I'm looking forward to seeing them." Bayern Munich fan Rosberg then thanked Kane for helping the German club win the Bundesliga title this season, with the striker scoring a whopping 38 goals. Rosberg then pressed Kane for who he was supporting in the race, asking the skipper not to give a 'diplomatic' answer. "Oh I know, I know," Kane chuckled. " Lando [Norris], I mean, he's been doing great this year and obviously he's got a great chance to win the championship, so I hope he can get himself in front today. "And of course George [Russell] and Lewis [Hamilton]. It'd be good to see them all on the podium." Norris started in second place behind McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri. Full focus will be on Andorra once the chequered flag is waved, as England look to continue their perfect start under new manager Tuchel. They'll also play Senegal in a friendly a week on Tuesday (June 10) in Nottingham. Tuchel has already ruled out releasing players involved who are in the Club World Cup early, despite the USA-hosted tournament beginning on June 15. "The discussion was very open," Tuchel said. "Very quickly we also understood this is a very important camp for us with one year to go until the Word Cup. Why send players if we want to cherish every day we have together. What signal would it send to the group to send players away?" How should England line up against Andorra? Give us your starting XI in the comments section. The German added: "I was an advocate and I could see the reason for the players who go to the Club World Cup to maybe leave a little earlier, to maybe change the squad. "I can understand the argument from especially the clubs who would love to see the players get a rest but we have a strong argument for ourselves and our goals we want to reach. "We are building a group and a togetherness. We want to develop a camaraderie and it is only possible if we take every day seriously." England players prepare for Andorra clash with visit to F1 Spanish GP
England manager Thomas Tuchel will take his 26-man squad to Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix as the Three Lions take a break from their World Cup qualifying campaign Thomas Tuchel is set to take his 26-man England squad to the Spanish Grand Prix this Sunday. The Three Lions will be taking a break from preparations for their World Cup qualifier against Andorra next Saturday with a trip to Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who officially joins Real Madrid on Sunday after an early release from Liverpool, skipper Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are all expected to attend the ninth round of the Formula 1 season. Footballers are regular visitors to the F1 paddock over the summer, after the have completed their club campaigns. The Monaco Grand Prix weekend often clashes with the final day of the Premier League season, as it did this season, so top flight stars usually descend on Barcelona as the event which follows that showpiece. Those called up by Tuchel to represent the Three Lions in matches against Andorra and Senegal in the coming days may have worried that they might miss out. But the German is clearly happy for his stars to enjoy some down time to take in some F1 action. After kicking off his tenure as England manager with wins against Albania and Latvia, Tuchel continues the journey to next summer's finals with a Group K match against Andorra – ranked 173rd globally – followed by a friendly against Senegal on June 10 at the City Ground. But up first is this weekend's Barcelona race where British star Lando Norris, fresh off his victory at the Monaco GP last weekend, is aiming to topple Oscar Piastri from the championship lead. He currently trails his McLaren team-mate by three points. Norris is not the only Brit that the England players will be cheering on. George Russell is also leading the charge for Mercedes while his former team-mate Lewis Hamilton is representing Ferrari, though the seven-time F1 champion struggled a lot in Friday practice. Rookie Oliver Bearman makes it four racers flying the Union Flag on the grid, representing American team Haas. And although Alex Albon represents Thailand, the homeland of his mother, the Williams racer was born in London, raised in Suffolk and identifies as both Thai and British. England footballers on the grid before Sunday's race will have to be wary of the possibility they may be collared by Sky Sports for a chat on their grid walk. Two years ago, Martin Brundle took the opportunity to quiz Mason Mount about the rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United. He would of course complete that switch but his time at Old Trafford so far has been plagued by injury. He scored a brace earlier this month against Athletic Club Bilbao to held send United through to the Europa League final, but found himself omitted from Tuchel's England squad and hasn't been capped since playing in the World Cup defeat to France in December 2022.

Champions League finalist 'fled from Tuchel' after England boss didn't want him
Yann Sommer will be in goal as Inter Milan bid to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Saturday, two years after his move to Bayern Munich turned sour Eyebrows were raised when Yann Sommer decided to leave Bayern Munich but two years on, the Swiss goalkeeper has given himself a shot at Champions League glory with Inter Milan. Sommer, 36, has been among Europe's most consistent shot-stoppers over the last decade, whether he's been staring for Borussia Monchengladbach, Switzerland or Inter. But his brief spell at Bayern, despite lifting the Bundesliga title, wasn't a particularly fond chapter of his storied career. Sommer had entered the final sixth months of his contract in January 2023 when the Bavarians came calling. Bayern needed a replacement for Manuel Neuer, who'd broken his leg while on a skiing holiday during the winter break. Agreeing to pay Monchengladbach £8.3million, Sommer was signed by then-manager Julian Nagelsmann. Within his first two months at the club, Nagelsmann got the sack and was replaced by Tuchel, fresh off his Chelsea exit. The Switzerland international helped Bayern reach the Champions League quarter-finals before losing to Manchester City, and they pipped Borussia Dortmund to win the Bundesliga on a dramatic final day. Prior to the start of the new season, however, Sommer jetted off to Milan after Inter had sold Andre Onana to Manchester United for £47m. The 36-year-old has arguably been an upgrade on Onana, with his incredible performance in this season's Champions League semi-final against Barcelona helping Simone Inzaghi's side book their ticket to Munich, where they'll face Paris Saint-Germain. The reason behind Sommer wanting to leave Bayern? Tuchel, according to ex-Bayern and Inter star Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "He lived above us in Munich, and we saw each other often," Rummenigge revealed in an interview with Kicker ahead of Saturday's final. "He somewhat fled from our coach back then - which makes it all the more remarkable how strong and consistent he is now performing at Inter Milan. That shows his quality, especially at an advanced age." Who'll win the Champions League final - PSG or Inter Milan? Give us your score prediction in the comments section. Within a month of Tuchel replacing Nagelsmann, it was reported by Kicker that he'd already decided on bringing back Neuer as Bayern's first-choice goalkeeper in the 2023-24 season. That opened the door for Sommer to leave and all Inter that had to do was pay a mere £5m in what could go down as one of the best bargain transfers in recent history. Just two months after joining the Nerazzurri, Sommer publicly criticised the way he was treated by the German giants. "I learned how things work at Bayern," he explained. "You pick one or two players and then the media shoots. And then you choose two new ones. And then it was my turn. But I didn't feel like defending myself publicly." He went on to say: "We had an extremely wild situation at Bayern. Layoffs, changes, a lot of unrest and various topics besides sport. Of course it was unpleasant at times and it doesn't leave you unscathed. The most important thing was that I tried to perform and help the team be successful. Luckily, that worked out in the end."
