‘Edge of the World': Majestic landmark in Tuwaiq mountains
RIYADH: At the far end of the iconic Tuwaiq mountain range, which stretches over 800 kilometers, lies one of Saudi Arabia's most remarkable natural landmarks, the "Edge of the World." Located about 100 km from Riyadh and rising to an elevation of 1,131 meters, this dramatic cliff formation is a premier destination for mountaineering and hiking enthusiasts. From its summit, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of deep valleys and endless desert expanses, creating a breathtaking scene that leaves a lasting impression. Geologically, the site is significant due to the presence of fossilized shells and marine life, dating back to a time when the area was submerged, indicating that it was once part of an ancient body of water. Sunrise and sunset at the "Edge of the World" provide some of the most stunning views as the sky is painted in vibrant hues, further enhancing the site's beauty. Winter is an especially magical time to visit, with cooler temperatures and occasional rainfall that breathe new life into the landscape.
