Hasbro's tariff response? In part it is to increase toy production in this WMass town
EAST LONGMEADOW – Toymaker Hasbro is stepping up board game production at a manufacturing partner's plant in East Longmeadow, in part to maneuver around the Trump administration's tariffs. Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks described the move as a reaction to the administration's import policies Thursday morning in a broadcast segment with CNN's Audie Cornish. But Cocks said reshoring the company's products can only do so much. That's because the toy industry's supplier network is largely overseas and some products – like dolls and action figures – are labor intensive and Hasbro would need to develop more automation in the U.S. 'We make many of our board games just up the road in East Longmeadow ... not far away from where Milton Bradley printed his first board games in the 1860s,' Cocks said in an April conference call with investors. Neither Hasbro nor its partner in East Longmeadow, Cartamundi, would go into details Thursday about how operations have changed in East Longmeadow. Belgian company Cartamundi – the name means 'Cards for the World' – bought the East Longmeadow plant from Hasbro in 2015 but kept on making games and toys for Hasbro under a long-term contract while also bringing in work from other customers. Hasbro announced layoffs a few weeks ago. Toy prices will likely climb in the next few months. 'I would expect if prices are going to be raised across the industry,' Cocks told Cornish. 'The consumer will probably start to see them in the August through October timeframe, just based off of the production timelines associated with toys, because usually it takes somewhere between three to five months between an order to be placed and a toy to be put on a shelf.' Milton Bradley Co. built the East Longmeadow plant from 1963 to 1965. Hasbro bought Milton Bradley in 1984. Donald Trump himself visited in 1989 to promote Trump: The Game. Today, the factory makes Hasbro games, including childhood favorites Monopoly, Twister, Connect4, Trouble, The Game of Life, CandyLand, Sorry, Chutes & Ladders. Cartamundi also makes Play-Doh in East Longmeadow, said Hasbro spokeswoman Abby Hodes. About 45% to 50% of Hasbro's U.S. sales are from domestically sourced products or from digital licensed content with domestic partners, Hodes said. In East Longmeadow, Cartamundi has the equivalent of 290 full-time employees, said Andy Kroll, Cartamundi's executive vice president for card and board games. 'We flex up with temps to meet seasonal demands,' he said in an emailed response to questions. Seasonal demand peaks in the second half of the year, in the run-up to Christmas. He kept details close to the vest – perhaps in keeping with a company that has made playing cards since 1765. 'Hasbro is indeed a valued and long-standing customer of East Longmeadow, and we greatly appreciate our continued partnership,' Kroll said. 'However, like with other customers, we are not in a position to comment on their domestic or international sourcing strategies.' Watch: 'Summer I Turned Pretty' trio talk final season on 'Tonight'
The first two episodes of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" arrive on Prime Video Wednesday. Photo courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios July 16 (UPI) -- The Summer I Turned Pretty stars Lola Tung, Gavin Casalegno and Christopher Briney are teasing the upcoming third and final season of the show, which arrives Wednesday. The trio stopped by The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Tuesday to discuss the love triangle between Belly (Tung) and brothers Jeremiah (Casalegno) and Conrad (Briney). "Season 2 ended with a major cliffhanger. This was a big deal. I mean, your character, Belly, chose Jeremiah over Conrad," Fallon recapped before asking Tung what she thought about that ending. "I'm all for her following her heart," the actress responded. "And she's doing what she needs to do in the moment, and following her heart in that moment and in every moment." In a snippet shared during the show, viewers see Belly watching Jeremiah play Twister when Conrad calls him. Jeremiah asks Belly to answer and she and Conrad have a quick, awkward exchange. When asked about Season 3, Tung said, "I think it's a lot more of the emotional rollercoaster you're used to, I guess, and also, you know, there's a little time jump, so we meet the characters in a little bit of a more mature place, I think." The first two episodes arrive on Prime Video Wednesday, and new episodes will air weekly after that, through Sept. 27. The series is adapted from the book series penned by Jenny Han.

David Corenswet's ‘flawless' movies prove he's the perfect Superman
Excited for Superman and already want to see more of breakout star David Corenswet? Two of his best roles are currently streaming Superman star David Corenswet is about to become a household name as he takes on the iconic Man of Steel in James Gunn's new DC Universe reboot. The new blockbuster hitting the big screen this Friday (11th July) features the powerful All-American hero taking on numerous threats while trying to hold true to his principles of truth and justice. While his romance with star reporter Lois Lane (played by Rachel Brosnahan) starts to blossom, his nemesis Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) will stop at nothing to bring the hero down to his level. With all the buzz surrounding the latest superhero blockbuster, two of Corenswet's previous films that prove he's the right man for the job are currently available to stream. Pearl While this period horror film is worlds away from Superman, Corenswet gives an effortlessly charming performance opposite Mia Goth that made fans fall in love with him well before he was cast as Clark Kent. A prequel to Ti West's grimy slasher film X, this unconventional thriller stars Goth as a young aspiring actress who goes on a rampage when she misses out on a starring role. Corenswet portrays an unnamed projectionist who befriends Pearl before she unleashes her darker side. One five-star review said of the film: 'I didn't expect anything nearly as good as this. Flawlessly innovative and brave film-making.' Corenswet's brief yet memorable role was clearly a highlight for fans and critics alike, with calling him 'dashing' and notes he 'makes [Pearl] feel like a movie star', qualities the star certainly needs for his romantic scenes with Lois Lane. raved: 'This is a very strong performance by David Corenswet. I never quite got a handle on who this character is, and I think that air of mystery is intentional.' And a fan on X (formerly Twitter) said: 'David Corenswet as Superman is near perfect casting. Just from watching Pearl, I can totally pick up on some solid Clark/Superman vibes. I would fully endorse this.' While one Reddit user even claimed: 'Not even joking when I watched this in theaters with a friend I whispered to her and said 'he would make such a good Clark Kent'.' Pearl is available to stream on Netflix Twisters Shortly after Pearl, Corenswet joined the all-star cast of Twisters, the Lee Isaac Chung-directed sequel to the 1996 cult classic Twister. More than living up to the legacy of the original, fans were blown away by the thrilling disaster flick, with a five-star Google review saying they 'absolutely loved every minute'. And someone else agreed: 'From the very first frame to the credits rolling, this film had me absolutely hooked! I've watched it multiple times now, and honestly, it just gets better with each viewing.' Taking on a more antagonistic role this time around, the Superman star portrays Scott, one of the crew members in the more corporate team of storm chasers who butt heads with YouTuber Tyler Owens (played by Glen Powell), known as the Tornado Wrangler, and his posse. Although Scott's rather smug demeanour is definitely not befitting of Superman, the role showcases Corenswet's range as an actor and proves he'll have it in him if the franchise ever decides to go a darker route with the superhero. Moreover, a touching behind-the-scenes video of the cast of Twisters celebrating Corenswet landing the role proves just how popular he was amongst his co-stars. With endless charisma and bucketfuls of talent, Corenswet seems destined to become an A-list star once comic book fans finally witness his debut as the beloved superhero. Twisters is available to stream on Sky Go and NOW.

Dubai to Muscat Sailing Race concludes on high note
The 32nd edition of the Aramex Dubai to Muscat Sailing Race has made history, delivering an unforgettable 360+ nautical mile challenge that tested every sailor's skill, endurance, and determination. This year's race was one for the record books: all 26 boats that started the race crossed the finish line—a first in the event's 32-year history. Even more remarkably, every boat finished within 24 hours of one another, with the entire fleet completing the course in under three days. It wasn't just the results that stood out. The 2025 race saw a record-breaking 121 sailors from diverse backgrounds take part, including an all-female crew, the youth boat Twister, crewed mostly by sailors under 20, made their mark with impressive tenacity and teamwork, and several international teams including an entry from Qatar, marking a new milestone for the race's growing regional reach. 'This year's race wasn't just about the numbers—it was about the people and the stories behind them,' said Ed Shiffner, DOSC Rear Commodore. 'From the youth crew showing incredible maturity and resilience to the veterans pushing harder than ever, this race had it all. And for the first time, we saw every boat cross that finish line in record time—a moment we won't forget.' The Aramex Dubai to Muscat Sailing Race follows a demanding offshore route, taking crews from the waters of Dubai, UAE, through the narrow, unpredictable Strait of Hormuz, and along Oman's dramatic coastline to the finish line in Muscat, Oman. With strong currents, shifting winds, and challenging night watches, the course requires more than just skill—it demands endurance, adaptability, and teamwork. Victory in the IRC Overall category went to co-skippers Lee Brown and Tom Cracknell aboard Nagini (UAE 380), a Farr 30 that delivered a masterclass in resilience, tactical thinking, and teamwork. Their success in the 2025 Aramex Dubai to Muscat Sailing Race was the culmination of three double-handed attempts—each with its own dramatic story. The offshore sailing duo first took on the challenge in 2023, which was their first time racing offshore double-handed. This year, everything came together. A fast run to the top of the course saw them frequently hitting speeds of 14–15 knots. Their momentum came to an abrupt halt when the wind died as they entered the notorious gap—a well-known wind trap between the mainland and a nearby island in the Musandam that has caught out many experienced sailors. As the tide pushed them backwards toward the rocks, they made a bold call: turn around, sail back through the gap, and take the longer route around the top in search of better wind. The gamble paid off; 15 sail changes, five hours of sleep each, and before they knew it, they were crossing the finish line in Muscat. One of the most gripping moments of the race unfolded during the Race to the Corner. As the fleet approached the critical turning point around the island of Jazirat Musandam, Moxie—a Walter Greene Design #46 skippered by Mohamed Al Kamda—was locked in a tense battle with Ivana & Aleks – a Landmark 43, skippered by Chavdar Aleksandrov. The boats were neck and neck, with crews making split-second decisions – adjusting sail trim and course as they jostled for the lead.
