Tennessee football offers 2027 in-state cornerback prospect

Tennessee is already recruiting toward its 2027 football signing class. The Vols offered a scholarship to cornerback Miles Brown. "I'm extremely blessed to receive an offer from the University of Tennessee," Brown announced. Advertisement The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect is an in-state target from Westview High School in Martin, Tennessee. Notable Westview football alumni include former Tennessee offensive lineman Chad Clifton and current Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson. Brown does not have any rankings from Rivals, 247Sports or On3. He received his first scholarship offer from Southern Miss on March 31. Other programs to offer Brown a scholarship include Vanderbilt, Maryland, Purdue and Memphis. Tennessee does not have any commitments in its 2027 football recruiting class. The Vols have eight commitments in their 2026 recruiting class: quarterback Faizon Brandon, wide receiver Tyreek King, tight end Carson Sneed, offensive lineman Gabriel Osenda, wide receiver Tyran Evans, linebacker Braylon Outlaw, defensive lineman C.J. Edwards and defensive lineman Zach Groves. Follow Vols Wire on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). This article originally appeared on Vols Wire: Vols offer scholarship to 2027 in-state cornerback

What Nick Saban said about Alabama football quarterback Ty Simpson: 'He'll do a great job'

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — Ty Simpson was Nick Saban's quarterback at Alabama football, the five-star the former Crimson Tide coach recruited to move from Martin, Tennessee, to Tuscaloosa. Heading into 2025, with Jalen Milroe off to the NFL after two seasons as Alabama's starting quarterback, Saban, before the Nick's Kids Foundation Golf Tournament at Old Overton Golf Club in Vestavia Hills, once again gave Simpson his stamp of approval Advertisement "Ty was an outstanding high school player no doubt," Saban said. "He's a fine young man. I think his example is a true example of development. He matured and developed for (three) years and now he's going to get the opportunity and I think his experiences are really going to help him be successful. We're rooting for him, that's for sure, and I have every confidence that he'll do a great job." Simpson is widely expected to start Alabama's 2025 season as its starting quarterback after battling for first-team reps with Austin Mack and Keelon Russell in the spring. Simpson has the most experience in the Crimson Tide quarterback room, with 50 career pass attempts across three seasons with the Crimson Tide. He has three rushing touchdowns. And Ryan Grubb, Alabama's offensive coordinator, called Simpson the incoming starter "if we're playing a game tomorrow," a message head coach Kalen DeBoer later reiterated. Simpson was sold on Alabama through Saban as a five-star quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class. Advertisement 'As a guy who loved football and a guy who's been around it all my life,' Ty Simpson told the Tuscaloosa News in January, 'I just kind of fell in love with the process and the way that he envisioned it.' Alabama football will open the 2025 season at Florida State at 2:30 p.m. on ABC. Colin Gay covers Alabama football for The Tuscaloosa News, part of the USA TODAY Network. Qua Russaw shared list of Alabama football leaders this spring. And a Crimson Tide QB made the cut

Qua Russaw couldn't wait to share his news. When the Alabama football linebacker stepped up for an interview, Russaw said he was one of a handful of players voted by Crimson Tide teammates as a "leader" this spring, a role he said he's "stepping into." Advertisement "As a team, we had voting," Russaw said. "And I was one of the guys they selected. So I'm working on my talking skills, talking to some of the younger guys and trying to get going." While the list may not be exhaustive, and the role itself may not be defined, Russaw did give an idea of the other Alabama players voted as "leaders." On defense, Russaw said he's joined by defensive linemen Tim Keenan III and LT Overton, while on offense, Russaw named quarterback Ty Simpson and offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor. In March, Alabama offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark named Simpson as a member of his Alabama football "starting five" in basketball, crediting his experience and his comfort with the offense as a whole. Advertisement "For Ty, I think it's his veteran aspect. He's relaxed out there — so is (Austin) Mack too," VanDeMark said. "You can tell it's not really getting to him in terms of getting all nervous or anything." Alabama will hold its annual A Day spring game at Bryant-Denny Stadium at noon April 12.
