Tyler City Council approves resolution to add new path connecting parts of the city
TYLER, Texas (KETK) — The Tyler City Council approved a resolution on Wednesday in support of a grant used to build a share use path that will connect Downtown Tyler, hospitals and Tyler Junior College. Anderson County flooding calls for water rescues and closed roads The Midtown to Downtown Shared Use Path is aimed to be a two and a half mile, 10 foot-wide path that would connect popular Tyler destinations such as Downtown Tyler, the new Smith County Courthouse and UT Tyler School of Medicine. This path would be an accessible way for Tylerites to travel on foot from East Fifth Street to South Broadway Avenue. Safety standards for the path include access ramps, lighting, wide concreate trails, signalized intersections and more. Though the path has an estimated $4.8 million price tag, the city expects to qualify for Transportation Development Credits which would completely fund the project through grants instead of a local match. If funding is awarded, the Texas Department of Transportation will help design and develop the project. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tyler City Council approves $12.6 million contract to modernize Lake Tyler Pumping Station
TYLER, Texas (KETK) — The Tyler City Council approved $12.6 million contract with Taknek to modernize the Lake Tyler Pumping station. Tyler water line extension gets $2.1 million contract approval Tyler Water Utilities (TWU) will use the money to upgrade the Lake Tyler Raw Water Pump Station, one of the most important links in the City's water supply system. 'We're designing a system that can serve Tyler's growing population and withstand emergencies without skipping a beat,' TWU Project Engineer Jacob Yanker said. 'This investment ensures families can continue to count on clean water, even in the face of rapid growth or unexpected outages.' Raw water has been pumped into Lake Tyler to the Golden Road treatment plant for decades and is responsible for the majority of Tyler's drinking water. The upgrades will modernize with new Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) along with the service equipment. 'There are a lot of trees around Lake Tyler, which has led to a loss of power for the pump station during severe weather,' Yanker said. 'The back-up generator would solve our power issues and keep water flowing.' The upgrades will focus on long-term sustainability and service reliability. Construction is set to begin this summer and will take 36 months to complete. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tyler looks to open pickleball courts at their facilities as part of new master plan
TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Tyler City Council approved the updated Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan for 2025-2035 during their meeting on Wednesday. The master plan will focus on creating diverse recreation opportunities along with preserving open spaces in Tyler. Diboll PD looking for missing woman believed to be in danger In alignment with the master plan, construction on Stewart Park is currently underway. The new park will act as a trailhead for phase two of Legacy Trails. Additionally, renovations at Winter Park are currently in progress and are expected to be done before the end of this fiscal year. The City of Tyler Parks and Recreation Department looks to update their plan periodically to keep the public up-to-date and as a way to comply with new Texas Parks and Wildlife Department regulations. In order to update the department, the city requested feedback from residents on what they want from their parks for the next five to 10 years. Women's History Month: How The Headless Librarian offers welcoming space for East Texas book lovers In order to receive that feedback, a public survey was conducted from September through December of last year. Along with the survey, two public meetings were held to discuss the future of the city's park system and to reevaluate priorities listed in the master plan. 'The feedback from the survey also highlighted the community's interest in additional athletic fields and pickleball courts,' said Leanne Robinette, Tyler's Director of Parks and Recreation. 'As one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, we anticipate adding pickleball courts once we determine the most suitable locations.' In order to meet the requirements of Texas Parks and Wildlife, any changes to the main plan must be supported by additional public input and must be adopted through a new resolution similar to the one Tyler City Council approved on Wednesday.
