St. Louis Battlehawks finish UFL season with league-best 8-2 record
The best UFL city has the UFL's best team. The St. Louis Battlehawks finished the league's 2025 season with an 8-2 record. That's the best mark in the eight-team league. The Battlehawks capped the season with a 13-8 win over the Defenders in D.C. The two teams will meet on Sunday with a berth in the UFL Championship on the line. Last year, the Battlehawks lost in the semifinal round, to the San Antonio Brahmas. The 2025 Brahmas collapsed, winning only one of 10 games. The winner of the D.C.-St. Louis game will face the winner of Michigan at Birmingham in the UFL title game, which will again be played in St. Louis. The Birmingham Stallions have won three straight championships — two in the reconstituted USFL and in the first year of the UFL, a merger of the USFL and the XFL. The Battlehawks routinely draw the most fans of any team in the UFL. The fact that roughly 30,000 show up for every game of a spring league that's struggling to resonate nationally should keep St. Louis on the NFL's radar screen, despite the $790 million settlement the league had to pay after moving the Rams in a tangled web of bald-faced lies.

Could a former Eagles UFL success spark discussions about a possible reunion?
Could a former Eagles UFL success spark discussions about a possible reunion? As you're reading this, the Philadelphia Eagles have started another phase of their offseason workout program. As OTAs begin, there's so much to talk about, not only about what's happening at the NovaCare Complex, but what's going on with Philly sports in general. Following a 2-0 win over the hated Atlanta Braves one day after Memorial Day, the Phillies have won ten of their last 11 games. They lead the New York Mets as the top team in the National League East, and as June approaches, thoughts will soon shift to the 2025 NBA Draft, where the 76ers own the third overall selection. In the City of Brotherly Love, however, the Eagles are typically the top story. Why discuss Ace Bailey when we can toss around theories about one of the best players in the UFL? Oh, and by the way, he's a wide receiver who once played for, you guessed it, the Philadelphia Eagles. Should the Eagles care that one of their former WRs has reinvented himself in the UFL? The UFL is set to enter its final week of action this coming weekend. Truth be told, they've produced some good football if you've been paying attention. One of the standouts was once a member of the Eagles' roster, and he's been doing some great things during spring football for a while. The Birmingham Stallion was named the most valuable player of the 2023 USFL Championship Game. He was part of the Stallions team that won the UFL Championship in 2024. He's currently third in receiving yards this season (491). He ranks third in yards per reception, and he ranks second in touchdown receptions with six trips to the end zone. Deon Cain enjoyed stints with Philly in 2021, 2022, and 2023. He never caught a pass in an Eagles game but boasts nine receptions and 124 yards receiving for his NFL career after spending some on-field time with the Indianapolis Colts and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Might Philadelphia consider a reunion? The truth is that they probably shouldn't unless they're looking for training camp bodies as the summer wears on. The UFL is a long way from the National Football League in terms of competition and talent, and Cain's success while playing spring football probably has little bearing on how well he'd transition to football's highest level. We could debate whether Cain is better than Elijah Cooks, Darius Cooper, Danny Gray, Taylor Morin, or Giles Jackson. It's doubtful, however, that he's overtaking Terrace Marshall for a roster spot. He certainly isn't stealing any playing time from A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Ainias Smith, or Johnny Wilson on an Eagles squad that will probably carry six wideouts on the 53-man regular-season roster. That means Cain's ceiling is a spot on the Eagles' practice squad. If he's willing to compete for that designation, discussions about a possible reunion are feasible. Otherwise, this is a conversation we can end pretty quickly.

Cowboys Ex Coach Moves Due To 'Personal Reasons'
The Dallas Cowboys have deployed just nine head coaches in their 66-year history. One of the top coaches for the Cowboys in terms of winning percentage was Wade Phillips, whose 60.7 percent win rate is tied for second all-time in franchise history, trailing Barry Switzer (62.5%). Phillips coached the Cowboys from 2007-2010, sporting a 34-22 record with the Cowboys before being fired after Week 9 of 2010, where the Cowboys began the season 1-7. Phillips had ended a 13-year playoff win drought for the Cowboys in 2009, taking down the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round 34-14. Advertisement Since his time in Dallas, Phillips has kept busy. After the Cowboys, he became the defensive coordinator (and eventual interim head coach) of the Houston Texans, and later took defensive coordinator positions with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams. Phillips has the distinction of being the head coach of more teams NFL (six) than any other person in league history. Phillips made the jump to the XFL in 2022, when he took over the Houston Roughnecks, earning the franchise's first playoff berth. Phillips then jumped to the San Antonio Brahmans of the newly-merged UFL. He repeated his Roughnecks record of 7-3 with the Brahmans, going all the way to the UFL Championship, losing to the Birmingham Stallions. On Wednesday, the UFL announced that Phillips would be taking a leave of absence from the Brahmans for "personal reasons" - but left the door open for the soon-to-be 78-year-old to return if he is willing and able. Advertisement "The UFL is extremely grateful for the leadership that Wade has delivered to the UFL as head coach of the San Antonio Brahmas," the league said in a statement (via NBC's ProFootballTalk). "The credibility that he has brought to the UFL as a Head Coach validates what we are building as a league." "This coaching legend has the respect of everyone in the league as well as throughout the entire football community for his dedication and accomplishments as a coach for over 50 years," the release continued. "If and when Wade is ready to return to the sidelines, the entire UFL Family will be there to cheer him on."
