UTHM researchers develop organic plant booster via Agropreneur Madani
BATU PAHAT: A team of researchers from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has successfully developed an organic plant booster called BootaniBoost under the Agropreneur Madani initiative. The project, led by the Department of Social Sciences, Centre for General Studies and Co-Curriculum, has produced 210 units of the product in collaboration with UTHM's adopted village. Prof Dr Abdul Rasid Abdul Razzaq, UTHM deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), highlighted that BootaniBoost uses effective microorganism technology to enhance plant growth naturally. 'This product can increase crop yields by up to 30% and improve disease resistance, making it suitable for vegetables, fruits, herbs, and ornamental plants,' he said. The Agropreneur Madani programme trained 26 participants in product development, packaging, and sales strategies. Zaili Saiman, head of the MADANI Community in Parit Jelutong, noted that the initiative not only fosters innovation but also empowers participants to become entrepreneurs by selling BootaniBoost and organic produce. The programme received support from Sri Gading MP Aminolhuda Hassan, the Industrial and Community Relations Centre (ICRC), Parit Jelutong JPKK, Sekolah Kebangsaan Jelotong, and the Batu Pahat District Agricultural Office. - Bernama

Missing UTHM lecturer found safe after Pulau Tioman diving scare, swam 1.4km to Pulau Tulai
KUANTAN, June 29 — A Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) lecturer who was reported missing while diving in the waters of Pulau Chebeh, Pulau Tioman, yesterday, was found safe today. Rompin police chief Superintendent Sharif Shaif Mondoi said the lecturer, identified as Eliza M. Yusup, 44, was found by a member of the public who was snorkelling in Pulau Tulai at about 8.45 am today. 'The victim is safe and is reported to be healthy. She was swept by the current about 1.4 kilometres away from her original location before swimming to safety and arriving at Pulau Tulai at about 11.30 pm yesterday,' he said in a statement today. He said she had been taken to the Kampung Tekek Health Clinic for further examination. According to Sharif Shai, the lecturer had participated in a diving activity with nine other divers and an instructor in the waters of Pulau Chebeh at about 11 am yesterday and was believed to have disappeared after doing the activity alone. 'The instructor searched for her when she failed to appear about 45 minutes later and then sought the assistance of the residents of Kampung Salang and the police after failing to find her,' he said. Sharif Shai said a search and rescue operation was then mounted, but halted at about 6.30 pm due to heavy rain and storms, before it was resumed today with the assistance of the Tanjung Gemok Marine Police Force. — Bernama

Hot weather prompts Johor to ease uniform rules for religious school students, says state exco
BATU PAHAT, June 22 — In view of the current hot weather, the Johor government has eased the dress code for students at Islamic religious schools to ensure their comfort throughout learning sessions. Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said there were no issues regarding the implementation, as the state government had authorised the District Islamic Education Office (PPID) to determine the appropriate attire. He said similar measures had been implemented before and could be reintroduced when necessary. 'In Johor, students are required to wear baju Melayu, so having looser clothing makes it more practical, especially during the current weather,' he said after closing the Johor State-Level Mahabbah Komuniti Madani Carnival at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) today. On the programme, Mohd Fared said it was a strategic collaboration among various parties aimed at reaching out to the community, particularly the youth, to provide a clearer understanding of increasingly complex social and religious issues. — Bernama

UTM A Prove mettle, Crowned Champions Of Robocon Malaysia 2025
BATU PAHAT, June 19 (Bernama) -- Despite early setbacks during the prototype development phase, the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) A team refused to give up and went on to emerge as champions of the 2025 Malaysian Robocon Competition at university level. Team leader Moh Nian Chun said he and his five teammates constantly sought solutions to ensure their robot functioned smoothly, in line with this year's competition theme - 'basketball match'. The student from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering said the idea to build two robots with distinct roles – one as an attacker and the other as a defender – began in November, and both robots were successfully completed within six weeks. 'In the beginning, our robot, which was made of steel, had problems moving smoothly due to its weight. 'We had to change materials several times, and after a few demonstration sessions and input from senior students, we finally chose aluminium as the robot's main material,' he said when met after the prize-giving ceremony here today. The prize-giving ceremony was held at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and officiated by Deputy Director-General of Higher Education (Governance and Development), Ahmad Rizal Adnan, together with UTHM Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Rashid Abdul Razzaq. Moh said the team also conducted several trial demonstrations to prepare for the actual competition, and their continuous efforts paid off when they were crowned champions and will now represent Malaysia at the international level. 'Our next challenge is to compete in the ABU Robocon International Competition, which will be held from Aug 23 to 25 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. We will do our best to bring glory to the country,' he said. Meanwhile, Ahmad Rizal said the competition, organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) since 2002, is not merely a robotics contest but a strategic platform to foster a culture of innovation and technology among undergraduates.
