Rohit Kumar, a mobile cover seller from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, has done what many only dream of -- clearing NEET UG 2025 with 549 marks. Scoring an All India Rank (AIR) of 12,484, this determined 20-year-old now hopes to get into a government medical college in his many NEET aspirants depend on coaching centres and home support, Rohit juggled his days selling phone covers and studied late into the night.'I used to work all day and then study till 3am. I'd sleep for just a few hours and be back at work by 7am,' he said in a video shared by Physics was part of PW's free 'Ummeed' batch for NEET aspirants. It was then that he decided he wanted to become a doctor. Coming from a humble background -- his father worked in a vegetable market -- Rohit dropped out of college to focus entirely on NEET self-belief and hard work carried him through despite limited 2025 OUTCOMESIn the NEET-UG 2025 results, Mahesh Kumar from Rajasthan claimed the top spot, with Utkarsh Awadhiya from Madhya Pradesh trailing. Avika Aggarwal from Delhi ranked highest among female candidates, placing fifth Krishang Joshi and Delhi's Mrinal Kishore Jha clinched the third and fourth positions, respectively. A total of 22.09 lakh students sat for the NEET-UG this year, marking a slight drop from the previous year's 23.33 lakh. Uttar Pradesh boasted the highest number of qualifying students, exceeding 1.70 lakh, followed by Maharashtra at 1.25 lakh, and Rajasthan with 1.19 lakh.

'On average, we earned around Rs 500 a day from selling mobile covers to support our family. Physics Wallah didn't charge me anything for coaching I was given a free batch based on my performance in the second attempt,' Kumar added. He also attended free YouTube sessions offered by the coaching platform. Kumar stressed the importance of sticking to the NCERT syllabus, practising thoroughly, and revising regularly. 'One should focus on NCERT books and follow the syllabus strictly. Practice and revision are the key,' he advised. In a heartwarming moment captured on video, Physics Wallah founder and CEO Alakh Pandey visited Rohit at his cart to personally congratulate him. The video, shared by the platform, shows Pandey embracing Rohit and acknowledging his hard work and dedication. Rohit was part of the 'Ummeed' batch a free coaching programme offered by Physics Wallah for NEET 2025 aspirants. 'After meeting Rohit, it's evident that for children like him, studying isn't a choice it's a necessity. It's truly a pleasure to meet such inspiring individuals,' said Pandey.

A young street vendor from Jharkhand's Jamshedpur has become an inspiration after scoring 549 marks in the NEET-UG 2025 exam. Rohit Kumar, who sells mobile phone covers on a cart, secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 12,484 and now hopes to gain admission to a government medical college in his home state. In a video shared by Physics Wallah, the platform's founder and CEO Alakh Pandey met Rohit at his stall to personally congratulate him. Rohit shared that he had been a student of Physics Wallah's free 'Ummeed' batch, which supports NEET aspirants with free coaching. Rohit's journey has been far from easy. He said his father used to work in a local vegetable market, and after completing Class 12, Rohit dropped out of college to focus on NEET preparations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked at a medical store, where he was inspired to pursue a career in medicine. Speaking to Pandey, Rohit explained his daily routine: 'I used to work all day selling phone covers and study till 3 am. Then, I would wake up at 7 am and go back to work.' In another video, Pandey gifted him a doctor's coat in recognition of his determination and success. This year, Mahesh Kumar from Rajasthan topped the exam, followed by Utkarsh Awadhiya from Madhya Pradesh. Avika Aggarwal from Delhi was the top-performing female candidate, finishing fifth overall. Maharashtra's Krishang Joshi and Delhi's Mrinal Kishore Jha secured the third and fourth ranks, respectively.
