Hinshelwood 'champing at the bit to get going again'

Brighton midfielder Jack Hinshelwood says he is "champing at the bit to get going again" after winning the Under-21 European Championship with the Young Lions title capped off an exciting few weeks for the Albion man, who became a father just three days before the tournament began. "It was a crazy sort of start," he told the Brighton website. "It was an amazing month."To be part of the under-21 team winning the Euros was very special. I loved every moment of it and I wish I could do it all again."But there will be no rest for the 20-year-old as he has chosen to return for pre-season training on Tuesday with the rest of the first-team squad."The club offered me time off but I said I was going to be at home anyway so I might as well come in."I'm so excited already to go back and join the lads again and get going, because the way we finished last season I'm just champing at the bit to get going again."

England U21 matchwinner warns rivals his side 'can accomplish anything' with 'new wave' of stars after retaining Euros title

England are ready to become an 'unstoppable' force in world football after back-to-back Under-21 Euros titles, claims matchwinner Jonathan Rowe. The former Norwich City man, now at Marseille, came off the bench to score the decisive goal at the start of extra time. Senior boss Thomas Tuchel watched on from the stands and now the pressure switches over to him to back this up with glory for the seniors at the 2026 World Cup. But Rowe has no doubts of the quality at England's disposal and victory over Germany in Bratislava showed the Three Lions are embarking on a 'new wave' of dominance. 'It's the start of a new wave!' Rowe raved. 'We have so much talent in England so it's only right that we utilise it to its full potential. 'With the right head coach, with the right staff, with the right mindset, with the right people, you can accomplish anything.' Asked to try and best explain how England have found a trophy groove at this level, replicating the achievement of Dave Sexton in 1982 and 1984 by winning successive titles, mentality is at the forefront of Rowe's thinking. 'It's more the mental side, you know? How [coaches] make us feel as players, the self belief they give us to go out and perform and express ourselves. 'Listen, to make it as a professional is difficult. We are all capable of doing a lot of amazing things but to perform consistently and do it time and time again that's the difficult part. 'If we have the right mindset and the right self belief in ourselves and the people around us we'll create a good team and we'll show that we're unstoppable.' England raced into a 2-0 lead before Germany made this such a thrilling contest, scoring twice to tie it up at 2-2 before rattling the crossbar in the final seconds of regulation, as well as in extra time. 'Grit, perseverance, determination… you name it,' Rowe said of this triumph. 'We all dug deep, stuck in and we all achieved what we came here to achieve. 'Everyone is special in their own way. Everyone has got unique talents. Everyone has got amazing ability. We all come together as a team and we all came with the right mindset, that's the main thing. 'A self belief, a belief in the team, and that trust in each other to get the job done and for everyone to play their part. 'I think it just gelled together. We haven't all played together before so at the start it was difficult to gel at times. But we found our feet very quick and it paid off in the end.'

Lee Carsley already eyeing more Euros glory in 2027 after guiding England to back-to-back U21 titles

Lee Carsley has challenged England players to go on and dominate for years to come after winning back-to-back Under-21 Euros on a famous night in Bratislava. Jonathan Rowe nodded in a winner in extra-time to down a Germany side that had rallied back from 2-0 to 2-2. A delighted Carsley, who has equalled the achievement of Dave Sexton who won it twice in 1982 and 1984, is already targeting glory again in two years time. 'I'm really proud of the players, the commitment they have shown,' he said. 'They have so much belief. This squad believes that they can win. 'To be European champions for the second time is a great achievement, and the challenge is to do it again in two years.' England could have crumbled when back at 2-2 but they rallied and dragged themselves over the line, a trait that is becoming more common through the age groups at the FA. 'Any setback that we have had, the players have got together,' Carsley said. 'I didn't think we played great tonight; we sat too deep and didn't have as much control as I wanted. But we won't remember that.' England hero Rowe hailed the 'exceptional' winning culture Carsley has bred after a group missing so many key players crowned themselves the kings of Europe. 'Everyone is exceptional, man,' he said. 'Everyone has the same mindset; we all wanted to win. The job is finally done, we can all celebrate.'

England 3 Germany 2: Young Lions retain Euro U21s crown in THRILLER as supersub Jonathan Rowe wins it in extra-time

ENGLAND retained their Under-21 Euros title with a topsy-turvy 3-2 win over Germany in extra time, after scuppering an early two-goal lead. The Three Lions left fans worried they'd bottled it in Slovakia when Germany fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in normal time. 9 9 9 But Marseille striker Jonathan Rowe had different ideas, enjoying the night of his life when he won it for his nation after coming on at full-time of normal time. Liverpool star and England's likely Player of the Tournament put Lee Carsley 's side in dream land inside five minutes with a clean low finish. It wa utter euphoria when Ipswich Town and Chelsea academy star Omari Hutchinson doubled their lead 19 minutes later. But Bournemouth full-back Alex Scott 's untimely substitution, after battling with long-term injury that saw him wearing a mask, soon saw England vulnerable. It was moments later that Germany, who had seemed shell-shocked up until then, pulled one back from Nelson Weiper's Ronaldo-esque bullet header. The young Lions had missed a flurry of chances and half-chances before 2-1, with the game going into half-time nervy. Soon, ex-interim first team boss Carsley's plans went up in smoke as Germany levelled the scores from Paul Nebel's screamer from the edge of the box, albeit James Beadle finger-tipped it in in the 64th minute. But Carsley's bizarre decision to take his only No 9 Jay Stansfield off meant his side struggled going forward, with no focal point. 9 England had lost their mojo, with several half-hearted attempts before Germany smacked the CROSSBAR in the 60 seconds of normal stoppage time. Before you know England were back in front when Carsley finally put on a striker. Super sub Rowe, who came on at full-time, put England 3-2 up in the second minute of extra-time with a low diving header. Tyler Morton played an absolute peach of a cross from the right into the substitute, who found space beyond his man to glance a header into the far corner. With only the back four remaining from the starting XI, England held firm to retain their Euros title won two years ago by Cole Palmer and Co. Germany hit the crossbar AGAIN in the second half of extra-time, with Beadle screaming at his team-mates to close them down. 9 9 9 9 9 The Sun is your go to destination for the best football, boxing and MMA news, real-life stories, jaw-dropping pictures and must-see video.
