Georgia football closing in on five-star safety recruit

Georgia football closing in on five-star safety recruit The Georgia Bulldogs are closing in on a five-star recruit. Safety Jireh Edwards listed Georgia among his top six schools, according to Hayes Fawcett. With his commitment date set for July 5, Edwards will choose among Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida, Auburn, or Oregon. Edwards is a five-star recruit in the class of 2026. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety plays football for St. Frances Academy in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Georgia previously landed an elite recruit from St. Frances Academy, which is a high school football powerhouse, in four-star linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson (class of 2021). Edwards participated in the Under Armour All-American Game in Deland, Florida. He played with Georgia Bulldog commits and signees like Elijah Griffin, Juan Gaston, and Zech Fort. If Edwards commits to Georgia, he will join a talented secondary in 2026. The Bulldogs secured commitments from four-star safeties Zech Fort and Jordan Smith, along with three-star safety Kealan Jones. Edwards is projected to commit to Georgia according to 247Sports. 247Sports, On3, and Rivals have different opinions on where Georgia's recruiting class ranks, but On3's ranking is the highest. On3 ranks Georgia fifth. The Bulldogs have added commitments from Jordan Smith, five-star quarterback Jared Curtis, and four-star wide receiver Ryan Mosley in May. Edwards is the No. 24 recruit in the 2026 class and the No. 2 safety in the nation.

Penn State quarterback commit earns prestigious invite to Under Armour All-America Game

Penn State quarterback commit earns prestigious invite to Under Armour All-America Game Penn State football quarterback commit Troy Huhn will have an extra opportunity to put his talents on display next year. Huhn, who ranks as a 4-star in the 2026 class, earned an invite to the 2026 Under Armour All-American Game after being named one of the top performers at the Under Armour Los Angeles event last weekend. The event was part of a series of camps hosted by Under Armour, which helps select players to compete in the annual event, a showcase of some of the top high school talent. Though the details for the next All-America Game haven't been announced, it'll be the 18th edition of the event. Huhn becomes the first Penn State commitment to earn the honor since quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer, who appeared in the 2024 iteration. The 6-foot-4, 205 pound gunslinger ranks as the No. 19 quarterback and No. 29 California recruit in the class. Huhn has been committed to the Nittany Lions since June 2024 and has served as a foundational piece of the recruiting class, which is now up to 15 members and ranks No. 4 nationally and third in the Big Ten. The player rankings for the 2026 class haven't yet been finalized, and the All-America Game serves as a great opportunity to gain exposure in front of scouts while playing against some of the top recruits in the country. A strong showing could bump up Huhn's ranking.

What is the NIL going rate by position? State of Florida recruiting mailbag

It's national signing day. Or what used to be known as signing day. We're pretty much done. You have questions. Let's get to it. Notes: Submitted questions have been edited for clarity and length. All rankings are from the 247Sports Composite. With the cost of players going up, what is the typical going rate per position — whether direct from high school or via the portal? — Joseph J. Fascinating topic, Joseph. I've tried gathering as much information as possible about that subject over the last few years at the Under Armour All-American Game. I've spoken with roughly 40 players at different positions about their NIL packages and had conversations with agents. What are the real numbers? Probably somewhere in the middle from what I've heard. But here's what I think the top high school players make per year as true freshmen. GO DEEPER Recruiting confidential: High school football stars talk NIL figures, transfer portal, more Top quarterbacks set the bar at $1 million. A handful of players have told me over the past two years that $250,000 per year is the starting rate for the best high school running backs and receivers. You can make more if the school really wants you. An offensive tackle headed to the SEC told me he was expecting to make nearly as much as a quarterback by the time he was a junior. He threw seven figures at me as a starting point. Another lower-ranked offensive tackle in the 2026 class said he was expecting to make at least $100,000 as a true freshman based on early conversations he's had with schools. Advertisement An elite uncommitted 2026 defensive back said the going rate he's heard is $300,000 to $700,000 for a top-five player at cornerback or safety. Another elite 2025 defensive back said every school that has spoken to him mentioned six figures minimum. A defensive lineman told me he was expecting to make $250,000 to $300,000 his first season playing in the SEC. He said he could make upward of $500,000 per year once he became a starter. An edge rusher heading to an ACC program told me he's likely to make $80,000 in his first season before becoming a starter and making more. I had two high school All-America linebackers — one headed to the Big Ten and another to the SEC — tell me their packages were between $350,000 to $600,000 per year. An agent told me that is probably more upper crust than the average price for a high school All-American at that position. Again, this is the best of the best coming out of high school. What you can earn as a transfer and beyond once you're playing depends on which school you play for. Alabama and Georgia have dominated Florida recruiting in the last decade. It seems like Miami and Florida — and to a lesser extent FSU and UCF — have committed to try and keep more of the top-end talent home. How have they done? — Jesse K. I went back six cycles, beginning with the Class of 2020, and tallied the number of top-100 recruits from the state and, yes, Georgia (17) and Alabama (16) have signed more top-100 prospects than any other programs. Florida (13), Miami (12) and Florida State (six) are next on the list followed by Clemson (four), LSU (four), Ohio State (three), Oklahoma (three) and Texas (three). But overall — if we're counting just blue-chippers — Miami (53), Florida (49) and Florida State (37) top the list, ahead of Georgia (26), Alabama (23), Texas A&M (12), Ohio State (11), Oklahoma (11), LSU (10), Clemson (nine), Penn State (nine), Auburn (nine) and Ole Miss (nine). Advertisement Jesse, the effort has always been there on the part of Miami, Florida and Florida State to keep the best players home. They just haven't won the big battles. In the end, the big three have kept roughly 38 percent of the available 370 blue-chippers home over the last six cycles. It's the big ones who got away that sting — guys like Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State), Shemar Stewart (Texas A&M) and Dallas Turner (Alabama). Another angle of Jeremiah Smith's ABSURD one-handed touchdown catch. — Eleven Warriors (@11W) September 29, 2024 How many of the top 20 Class of 2026 Florida recruits stay in-state? — Horace B. We still have to see what four-star cornerback J'Vari Flowers from Miami Northwestern decides to do before the end of the spring. He reclassified from 2026 to 2025 recently and ranks among the top 20 players in the state. But right now, only six of the top 20 players from the state in the 2025 class have signed with in-state schools — four with Florida and two with Miami. In 2024, 11 of the top 20 recruits in the state stayed home. Six signed with the Hurricanes, three with the Seminoles and two with the Gators. In the Class of 2026, four of the top 20 in-state prospects have already committed, including five-star quarterback Dia Bell to Texas. Miami (four-star linebacker Jordan Campbell), Florida State (four-star athlete Efrem White) and Georgia (four-star safety Zech Fort) have the other pledges. Not that a commitment this early means anything anymore, but my guess is we'll see about half of the top 20 stay home. The top five recruits in the state at the moment are all from South Florida: Bell, Miami Northwestern receiver Calvin Russell, Hollywood Chaminade running back Derrek Cooper, St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Justice Fitzpatrick and Coconut Creek Monarch receiver Jabari Brady. There's no doubt all five will get pushed hard to stay in-state. Ultimately, we'll know more this summer after official visits are taken and commitments are made. GO DEEPER Recruiting thoughts: Catching up on the Class of 2025 as signing day nears Who is the top running back in the Miami area? Who has come out since James Cook that is better? — G.R. South Florida has a proud history of producing great backs. I was blessed to watch Frank Gore at Coral Gables High School before he became the NFL's No. 3 all-time leading rusher. Dalvin Cook — James' older brother — is the best back I've seen come out of the area in the past decade. I like both of the backs at Miami right now: Mark Fletcher and Jordan Lyle. I think both are future NFL players. Advertisement In the 2026 cycle, Cooper is the best available (though I personally like him more at linebacker). West Boca Raton's Javian Mallory is another special back to watch. There are more elite guys. Right now, though, James Cook is the best South Florida back in the NFL. How does USF's NIL budget compare to the other four major schools in the state? — T K. There's a huge financial advantage to being in a Power 4 conference — especially when we get to revenue sharing this summer. So, to compare USF to Miami, Florida, Florida State and UCF would not be fair. But USF is definitely near the top when talking about Group of 5 programs. USF ranks third in talent acquisition in the 2025 cycle among G5 schools — combining the portal and high school recruiting rankings — behind only Memphis and Tulane. The Bulls also ranked third in 2024 behind those same schools after coming in ninth in 2023. So, the NIL budget has improved under Alex Golesh. How is Coach Prime doing with Florida this season? — John R. Florida has been the biggest pipeline for high school recruits for Colorado since Deion Sanders took over in December 2022. He's signed at least four players from the state in each of the last three recruiting cycles, and overall 13 of his 46 signees have come from the Sunshine State. Four of the 13 were blue-chippers, though one notable player — Class of 2023 top-100 cornerback Cormani McClain — transferred to Florida after one season in Boulder. Left tackle Jordan Seaton, a Washington, D.C., native who played his final year of high school ball at IMG Academy, has been CU's best import from Florida. Four-star edge rusher London Merritt, another IMG product who is originally from Georgia, is the highest-ranked 2025 recruit Colorado signed from the state. Colorado has used the transfer portal more than any other Power 4 program (112 signees) over the last three cycles. It does, however, appear Sanders is settling in a little with his roster. Colorado has signed only 17 transfers this cycle. So, maybe, he's ready to start recruiting high school talent a little more seriously going forward.

5-star OL set to visit Georgia football

One of the Georgia Bulldogs' top recruiting targets is Immanuel Iheanacho, a five-star offensive tackle out of Baltimore's Georgetown Prep. Iheanacho, who is a member of the class of 2026, is ranked the No. 2 prospect in the nation. Iheanacho raved about Georgia earlier in the month while competing in the Under Armour All-American Game. 'I love how they're very raw. They're gritty. They're everything that you see with nice, old-fashioned, smash-mouth football. They have Coach Smart, I talk to him. Coach Searles produces guys Amarius Mims, Andrew Thomas, they just won an SEC Championship. They win. I like the campus down there and overall I appreciate the brand of football,' he told On3. Iheanacho has taken recent visits to Texas A&M, Florida and Auburn. Next weekend he'll head to either LSU or Georgia, so Kirby Smart and his staff could also have him back in Athens very soon. The five-star is a player who could step into Athens and immediately compete for a starting spot on the offensive line.
