ESPN reporter Holly Rowe shares possible timeline for Caitlin Clark return from injury
During the nationally broadcast 93-78 Indiana Fever win over the Chicago Sky from the United Center on Sunday afternoon, ESPN reporter Holly Rowe provided a more in-depth update on Caitlin Clark's injury and when the former Hawkeye could be expected to return to action. Clark, who has remained out since July 15 after suffering a right groin injury against the Connecticut Sun, remains a constant presence on the bench for the Fever as the team plays without its franchise cornerstone. '[Clark] did see a specialist last week, and no additional injury was found in that exam and scans. Stephanie White did tell us that they will be even more cautious in their approach to her return to play this time. 'Last time when she came back from injury, she didn't get any practice time [or] any time to ramp up her conditioning. This time, they're going to make sure she has time and practice to get rhythm and time with her teammates," Rowe said. Sunday's game marked the fourth consecutive game Clark has missed due to the right groin ailment. In total, Clark has now been absent for 13 regular season games with three different injury setbacks. Rowe finished her report on Clark by pointing to the Fever's schedule, which features a five-day break around the third week of August, between Indiana's Aug. 17 road game against the Connecticut Sun and their Aug. 22 home game against the Minnesota Lynx. While admitting that Clark remains "day-to-day" according to the team, Rowe alluded to the specific window between games as an ideal timetable for a potential return, given the star guard's ability to secure a few more days of practice during that period. As you look at their schedule, the third week in August provides a few more practice days where that seems like it's realistic. While she does remain day-to-day, that seems like a better timetable for a possible Caitlin Clark return," Rowe said. As for the immediate future, Indiana (14-12) will look to continue their confident play when the team returns home to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a matchup against former teammate DeWanna Bonner and the Phoenix Mercury (16-9) on Wednesday, July 30. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. CT and will air on ESPN3. Kelsey Mitchell joins Caitlin Clark in rare Indiana Fever feat
After the Indiana Fever's 93-78 Sunday win vs. the Chicago Sky, forward Kelsey Mitchell joins Caitlin Clark in a rare franchise single-game feat, according to the WNBA. In the Fever's third victory over the Sky in as many tries and second from the 20,000-seat United Center this season, Mitchell led the team in scoring with a season-high 35 points on 12-for-19 from the floor, 7-for-10 from 3-point territory, and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to go along with six assists, three steals, and two rebounds. With the impressive performance, Mitchell now joins Clark as only the second player in Indiana Fever franchise history to score 35-plus points, while also recording five-plus assists and five-plus 3-pointers made in a single game. Clark became the first to accomplish this rare statistical feat on Sept. 15, 2024, when the former Hawkeye erupted for a 35-point performance against the Dallas Wings, where she also recorded eight assists and connected on six 3-pointers. That game was also when Clark broke the WNBA's rookie scoring record, once held by Seimone Augustus. Mitchell's scoring pace on Sunday also set a franchise record as she became the first player to score 35 or more points in under 30 minutes, which she accomplished just under the wire at 29:51. While the Indiana star guard remains out indefinitely as she attempts to make a full recovery from her latest injury setback, having the scoring abilities of Mitchell at the forefront of the Fever's attack has certainly paid dividends lately. Indiana will look to continue their second-half push towards the playoffs when the Fever (14-12) return home to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a matchup vs. former teammate DeWanna Bonner and the Phoenix Mercury (16-9) on Wednesday, July 30. The game from Indianapolis has a scheduled start for 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN3. Fever's Sophie Cunningham turns heads with 'hot girls' message before game
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham made another fashion statement before the team's win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday afternoon. Cunningham walked into the United Center for the game with a message emblazoned across her T-shirt. "Hot Girls Eat Arby's," the message read. She wore black leather shorts to go along with her outfit. It's far from the first time that Cunningham has gone viral for some of the outfits she has worn on gameday. Going back to her days with the Phoenix Mercury, Cunningham was turning heads and making basketball followers give her a second look. "I do think it's super cool that people are interested in what we do off the court now," she told Fox News Digital last September. "Our tunnel fits have been a fashion show, and people are so excited and intrigued about what we're going to wear." More importantly for Cunningham and the Fever, Indiana won the game 93-78. Cunningham started the game and played for 31 minutes. She scored five points, had two steals and one rebound as the Fever improved to 14-12. Kelsey Mitchell broke out with 35 points on 12-of-19 from the floor. Indiana has been without Caitlin Clark since before the All-Star break. Clark has been dealing with a groin injury with no timetable for her return. The Fever are in the middle of the pack in the standings. They are one game behind the Seattle Storm for fifth place.

New co-main event announced for UFC 319 event
The UFC 319 fight card has a new co-main event, as rising contender Aaron Pico will square off with unbeaten Lerone Murphy. Pico was expected to meet Movar Evloev this past weekend when the UFC went over to Abu Dhabi, but Evloev withdrew from the fight. Instead of trying to keep Pico on that card, officials moved him to the August 16 event in Chicago, Illinois from the United Center. MORE: Reinier de Ridder with a big win over former UFC champion Robert Whittaker A former Bellator fighter, Pico signed with the UFC after Bellator was acquired by the PFL. He owns a record of 13-4 as a pro, which includes a 9-1 run. The lone loss during that stretch was when he suffered a shoulder injury vs. Jeremy Kennedy. Murphy is 16-0-1, with the draw coming back in 2019 in his UFC debut vs. Zubaira Tukhugov. Since, he is 8-0, including an April decision over Josh Emmett to follow up a win over Dan Ige. UFC 319 features Dricus du Plessis defending his middleweight title against Khamzat Chimaev along with previously announced fights between Geoff Neal and Carlos Prates, Jared Cannonier and Michael Page, and Tim Elliott and Kai Asakura. Chicago Sky rule Angel Reese out for Indiana Fever matchup at United Center
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever matchup at the United Center will have neither of its intended headliners. Fever star Caitlin Clark, who has been out since July 16 with a right groin injury, was already ruled out for the game. She sought additional opinions on the injury, which determined there was no additional damage and that she avoided serious injury, but there is still no timetable for her return. Chicago star forward Angel Reese was originally questionable with a back injury, but has since been ruled out about an hour before the game. This is the second straight game Reese will be out, as she also missed Chicago's game against Seattle on Thursday. "It doesn't really change our strategy, I mean, we prepare for Angel when she's on the floor. We know that she's the best rebounder in the league, and the way that they utilize her at that point forward position sometimes creates some challenges," Fever head coach Stephanie White said pregame. "But they also have capable players with size and rebounding ability off the bench. They don't utilize those players the same way they utilize Angel but nonetheless, they have great size, great ability to crash the glass, and they're one of the best rebounding teams in the league." Sky backup guard Hailey Van Lith is also out on Sunday, and guard Courtney Vandersloot is out for the season after an ACL tear, putting the Sky down to eight available players. The league minimum for players available in a single game is seven. Chloe Peterson is the Indiana Fever beat reporter for IndyStar. Reach her at capeterson@ or follow her on X at @chloepeterson67.
