UOS celebrates graduation of 4th Cohort of Emirati Future Leaders

During the ceremony, His Excellency Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, highlighted how the Emirati Future Leadership initiative embodies the University's vision of empowering Emirati youth to become dynamic leaders who can shape the nation's future. He emphasized that through such pioneering programs, the University fosters a stimulating educational environment that nurtures social responsibility, creativity, and excellence, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to play an active role in the UAE's ongoing journey of progress and Emiratization. In his address to the graduates, Prof. Yousef Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, underscored that supporting Emiratization remains a central pillar of the University's mission. He noted that the University continually develops curricula and launches training initiatives in collaboration with international partners to ensure the UAE labor market is supplied with highly qualified national talent. This year's cohort participated in an exceptional international training camp in Barcelona, Spain, organized in partnership with the Institute of American Universities in Spain. Looking ahead, further collaborations are planned with educational institutions in Hong Kong. Prof. Maher Omar, Director of the Institute of Leadership in Higher Education, provided an overview of the initiative, reaffirming the institute's commitment to advancing national talent and preparing future leaders. He described the program as a unique and enriching experience, where participants gained a wide range of future-oriented leadership skills, including environmental awareness, sustainability, mentorship, community service, and the values of diversity and inclusion. Students shared their experiences from the Barcelona training camp, which featured interactive sessions led by international experts, hands-on activities, and field visits to the city's cultural and historical landmarks. These experiences broadened their academic and personal horizons, offering valuable insights into new cultures. The graduating students also presented their capstone projects, which reflected the diverse skills acquired throughout the program. These included six innovative projects addressing pressing societal challenges, such as promoting mental health awareness in educational institutions, developing action plans to reduce reliance on expatriate labor, exploring aquatic gardens to combat pollution and improve air quality, and designing a cost-effective tracking device to enhance child safety. The ceremony concluded with Prof. Agamy honoring the 31 graduates, celebrating their achievements, and reaffirming the University of Sharjah's ongoing dedication to nurturing the next generation of Emirati leaders.

Broad participation and distinguished elite The conference saw the participation of a select group of international experts, decision-makers, researchers, and athletes, alongside representatives of national Paralympic committees from West Asia and across the globe. It aims to enhance the field of sports for people with disabilities by providing practical solutions to key challenges and elevating global performance standards. Opening remarks The event began with the UAE national anthem, followed by a speech from Dr. Abdul Razzaq Bani Rashid, President of the West Asian Paralympic Federation. He highlighted the significance of the conference as a vital scientific and practical platform to promote international cooperation for sustainable and innovative sports programs. Dr Bani Rashid also emphasised the strategic partnerships behind the conference, including collaborations with the International Paralympic Federation, Sharjah Sports Council, and three major universities: University of Sharjah (this year's host), Hashemite University in Jordan (previous host), and the University of Belgrade in Serbia, as part of an MoU signed with the Federation. Sharjah's support for sports and science Dr Tariq bin Khadem, Vice President of the International Paralympic Committee, praised the continuous support of the Emirate of Sharjah—under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah —for education, sports, and scientific research. He underscored Sharjah's position as a global hub in these areas, exemplified by hosting this major international event. University of Sharjah's academic commitment Professor Essam El-Din Ajami, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, welcomed participants and reaffirmed the university's commitment to applied scientific research, inclusive education, and the development of adapted sports. He emphasised equal opportunities for all students, including those with disabilities, as a cornerstone of academic excellence. He also highlighted the role of the university's Disability Resource Center, inaugurated in 2016 by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The center is a dedicated space focused on integration, empowerment, and comprehensive support for students with disabilities. Professor Ajami concluded by expressing pride in the university's role in supporting the empowerment of individuals with disabilities and showcasing their outstanding abilities across various fields, especially in sports. Conference objectives and outcomes Dr Omar Hindawi, Chairman of the Conference Scientific Committee, noted that the conference seeks to drive positive change in the lives of people with disabilities by promoting sports as a powerful tool for rehabilitation and social inclusion. He added that the conference welcomes researchers from diverse countries to share the latest findings and practices in this evolving field. Honoring supporters The opening ceremony concluded with His Excellency Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi honoring strategic partners, supporters, and members of the conference's Board of Trustees and Scientific Committee, in recognition of their essential contributions to the success of this international initiative. Visual presentation and global interaction A short film was presented during the ceremony, showcasing key activities and milestones achieved by the West Asian Paralympic Federation in supporting adaptive sports. The film illustrated the depth of regional efforts to promote inclusive sports environments. Scientific sessions and workshops The conference continues with a series of scientific sessions and specialized workshops that explore the latest global developments in sports for people with disabilities. These discussions aim to fulfill the conference's overarching goal: building a strong 'Partnership for the Future.'

This marks the association's first regional chapter outside the Arab world and its seventh international and regional chpater overall. The launch was celebrated at an official gathering organised by the Alumni Association in collaboration with the UAE Embassy in Madrid, attended by Ibrahim Ali Al Nuaimi, Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Madrid., Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, Dr. Amal Al Ali, Director of the Alumni Association Office, and Dr. Ahmed Al Mahdi, Director of the University's Scholarship Unit, alongside a distinguished group of graduates from various disciplines. The establishment of the chapter aims to foster enduring connections between alumni and their alma mater, empowering graduates to serve as ambassadors for the University of Sharjah at academic and professional forums worldwide. This initiative is set to further the University's vision and mission on the international stage. Previous executive committees have been established in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman, Jordan, and Bahrain. Wafaa Laalaoui, the new committee chair, who holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from the University in 2021 and is currently a final-year Master's researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, expressed her pride in being part of the University of Sharjah, affirming the committee's commitment to strengthening alumni connections, building an interactive network that reinforces their academic and institutional identity, and encouraging active participation in scientific and community initiatives.

The association's delegation was headed by Dr. Aisha Al Ghais, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, and included Dr. Jamal Yousef Al Zarouni, Secretary, and Professor Mohammed Shuaib Al Hammadi, Financial and Administrative Director. They were received from the University of Sharjah by Dr. Maryam Balajid, Head of the Arabic Language and Literature Department, and lecturer Hamda Al Awadhi from the same department. Promoting the use of the Arabic language in academic and community activities The meeting, held Tuesday addressed a number of key topics related to the status of the Arabic language in academic fields. Discussions centred on ways to expand cooperation between the two sides, particularly with regard to initiatives targeting students and researchers, and opening new horizons for promoting the use of the Arabic language in academic and community activities. Enhancing Arabic language in light of rapid digital transformations The possibility of ALPA participating in the "Arabic Language and Artificial Intelligence" conference was also discussed, contributing to its scientific and practical aspects. This would achieve cognitive integration with contemporary developments and enhance the status of the Arabic language in light of rapid digital transformations. The University of Sharjah expressed its keenness to strengthen its relationship with ALPA, welcoming proposals for cooperation and exchange of expertise in areas of common interest. For their part, the Association's representatives affirmed their readiness to study the proposed initiatives and engage with them in a manner consistent with the Association's mission to preserve the Arabic language and enhance its presence in various fields. At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties emphasised the importance of continued institutional communication and coordination, affirming their aspiration to build an effective partnership that will contribute to the advancement of the Arabic language and make it a key element in the knowledge industry and future planning.
