'Fortnite' To Release AI-Powered NPCs
Summary Artificial intelligence may not have taken over the world yet, but it's certainly making waves inFortnite. Since the introduction of the Unreal Editor forFortnite(UEFN) in 2023, creators have been able to build, collaborate on fully customizable islands and much more. Now,Epic Gamesis pushing the boundaries even further with AI-powered non-playable characters (NPCs). In early experimentation of an AI-powered Darth Vader character added in game, the character could interact with players and even join their squad if they gain his loyalty by defeating him. While this was a hit with fans, it also highlighted early issues — most notably, the lack of filtered dialogue, which allowed the AI to be prompted into swearing. Epic Games quickly acknowledged the problem and added parental controls as well. Now, Epic Games is taking things a step further. At the 'State of Unreal' keynote, the company offered a glimpse intoFortnite'sfuture with the introduction of Mr. Buttons — an AI-powered NPC capable of holding real-time, unscripted conversations. Unlike traditional scripted characters, Mr. Buttons can respond dynamically to player prompts, marking a significant leap toward more immersive, interactive gameplay. That said, the experience isn't without flaws. To mask processing delays, the AI fills pauses with sounds like 'hmm' or 'umm'— a clever touch at first, but one that quickly becomes repetitive and slightly robotic. Still, the progress is hard to ignore. Take a look at the Mr. Buttons demo above.

Fortnite x Squid Game collab set to shake up creative mode with deadly challenges
Image via Fortnite Twitter Fortnite is taking its latest crossover into a darker, more competitive arena as it teams up with Netflix's global phenomenon Squid Game for a brand-new experience set to launch on June 27. Unlike previous high-profile collaborations, this one won't be part of the main Battle Royale mode, but will instead live within Fortnite's Creative universe - giving players the power to recreate, design, and survive the game's infamous challenges. Squid Game comes to creative mode Announced during the 2025 State of Unreal presentation, the collaboration introduces Squid Game assets to the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), enabling creators to build custom islands inspired by the show's brutal games. From 'Red Light, Green Light' to the iconic Glass Bridge, these fan-favorite tests of survival will now get the Epic Games stamp of approval, allowing for deeper immersion and greater authenticity. Over the past few years, community-made Squid Game maps - such as sundaycw's wildly popular 'Octo Game 2,' have gained traction among Creative players. However, these maps were based on fan interpretation. With official tools and show-accurate designs entering the mix, creators now have more firepower than ever to bring the twisted world of Squid Game to life inside Fortnite. What's also fuelling buzz is the speculation around whether the collaboration will remain limited to Creative mode. Fortnite's Competitive X account chimed in on the teaser post, sparking theories that the crossover could bleed into competitive tournaments or limited-time modes. Though nothing has been confirmed, the idea of players battling for V-Bucks - or even real money, in Squid Game-style events has fans intrigued. There's also curiosity around cosmetics. While Epic Games has yet to confirm the release of Squid Game-themed skins, many expect that Pink Guard outfits, contestant tracksuits, and themed emotes will soon hit the Item Shop - a familiar pattern following collaborations with franchises like The Walking Dead and Fall Guys. The crossover has already stirred mixed reactions online. While some fans hailed it as 'the most peak collab to date,' others called Squid Game 'overrated' or questioned Fortnite's recent creative direction. Still, with its official rollout just weeks away, the collaboration promises to offer players a gripping new way to engage with both franchises. Whether you're in it to survive, build, or simply collect cosmetics, Fortnite's dive into Squid Game territory marks a bold gamble - and one the community will be watching very closely.

Fortnite is about to unleash AI-powered NPCs
For better or worse, Fortnite will let creators make NPCs that ditch the script and go freestyle. A new tool in the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) will allow developers to create their own generative AI-powered NPCs. Their voice types, delivery styles and personality traits are all customizable. Epic demoed the tech on Tuesday during its "State of Unreal" keynote. The company said the NPC generated its responses in real-time during the presentation. It was created using "about 20 lines" of prompt text. The demoed character, Mr. Buttons, was created solely to persuade the player to press a large red button in a room. After the presenter asked about the signs in the environment warning against pressing the button, the AI bot persisted. "Signs, you say? Mere suggestions from those who lack imagination. After all, rules are made to be gently nudged aside. Wouldn't you agree?" Impressive as it was, the demo also showed the tech's current limitations. First, it's a turn-taking AI chat, not a live one with interruptions and overlapping. In addition, the presenter could only speak when holding a button to activate the microphone. After each question, Mr. Buttons would pause for a few moments to process. It tried to mask this with vocal fillers like "Hmmm," "Ahhhh," and "Ummm." The tech builds on Darth Vader's appearance last month in Fortnite: Galactic Battle . Gemini 2.0 Flash generated the Sith Lord's dialogue, which was made to sound like James Earl Jones' voice using ElevenLabs AI tech. (His estate approved it.) How did it go? Well, AI Vader went viral for… probably not the reasons Epic hoped. On the bright side, it didn't quite devolve into AI Seinfeld levels of offensiveness. But a widely shared video showed Darth dropping an F-bomb. In response to a streamer using "freaking" and "fucking" in a voice prompt, Vader repeated the words. (Ironically, he then scolded the player for using harsh language.) Epic pushed a hotfix and promised it wouldn't happen again. Fortnite creators will be able to make the NPCs in the UEFN Editor later this year. You can check out the Mr. Buttons demo below. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Sabrina Carpenter Fortnite concert leak hints at star-studded virtual experience
Image via Epic Games Pop star Sabrina Carpenter could be the next big name to headline a Fortnite in-game concert , according to fresh leaks making the rounds online. While there is no official word from Epic Games yet, the community is already buzzing with reactions - both thrilled and skeptical. Leaks points to Sabrina Carpenter's Concert in Fortnite The information first surfaced through reliable Fortnite leakers @Loolo_WRLD and @BeastFNCreative, who claim the concert is currently in development via UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite) by Magnopus, the same studio behind Fortnite's previous live events featuring Metallica and Karol G. The concert, if true, will reportedly feature six songs from Carpenter's recent album 'Short 'n Sweet', including chart-toppers like Espresso and Please Please Please. It's expected to run for about 10 minutes and have its own dedicated playlist, just like earlier Fortnite concerts. Magnopus, known for creating immersive virtual events, has collaborated with major entertainment brands including HBO, Disney, and Epic Games. Their involvement adds credibility to the leak, although Epic Games has yet to confirm the event. Fortnite community torn between hype and hilarity As with most Fortnite leaks, the news sparked a variety of responses on social media. Fans of Sabrina Carpenter are over the moon, while others have been quick to call it a 'miss' for the game. One user quipped, '' while another joked about assembling a full preset of Sabrina-themed cosmetics. The debate escalated with some players voicing frustration over artists like Hatsune Miku still being sidelined, while others passionately defended the rumored Carpenter feature. 'We should have had a hatsune miku concert.' wrote an excited supporter. Others, however, questioned the necessity of another in-game concert altogether. 'We don't want it,' read one blunt comment, summing up the divide. While nothing has been officially announced, Fortnite has a consistent history of delivering immersive musical events. From Travis Scott to Ariana Grande, virtual concerts have become a staple in the Fortnite universe, drawing millions of players into synchronized experiences that blend music, gaming, and visual storytelling. If the Sabrina Carpenter concert does go live, it would mark another step in Fortnite's evolution as a digital stage for top-tier entertainment. For now, players can enjoy Season 8's Festival Pass, already packed with Carpenter-themed cosmetics - and wait for the official word from Epic. But if the past is any indication, this leak may just turn into Fortnite's next headline moment. Catch Lovlina's story unfold on Game On. Watch here!

Epic Games acquires Loci to introduce automated 3D tagging
Epic Games announced on Wednesday the acquisition of Loci, an AI platform for automated tagging 3D assets. The deal will help creators with the labor-intensive process of tagging as well as to help detect potential intellectual property (IP) violations. Loci, which uses computer vision models to understand 3D content, automatically tags 3D assets, making content easier to search, share, and discover. Due to the large number of assets that creators often need to manage, the new integration is likely to be very helpful, as the process can be very time-consuming. Not only will Loci's technology address the challenges associated with manual tagging, but it'll also help identify possible IP infringements. Fortnite has encountered issues before where numerous players brought in elements from popular IPs, including Mario Kart and Shrek. The AI technology will be integrated across the Epic ecosystem, including in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and Fab, the marketplace for selling and buying digital assets. Deal terms were not disclosed.
