The make-up bargains that stand up against their pricier rivals
This story is part of the May 25 edition of Sunday Life. See all 13 stories. One of the things I love most in my job is finding the perfect, affordable matches – sometimes called 'dupes' – for the high-end products we all love, especially when it comes to make-up. Because beauty, as with life, is all about balance, right? Let's start with eyeshadow palettes; at any price point look for richly pigmented hues in a range of finishes. An all-time favourite is Urban Decay Naked 3 Eyeshadow Palette ($95), which offers 12 richly pigmented, rose-tinted shades in a mix of matte, pearl and metallic finishes to take you from day to night. At a more accessible price point is Maybelline's Nudes of New York Palette ($17), which has 16 super-wearable shades including matte and metallic neutrals, nudes, pinks and bronzes. Foundation can often be a case of getting what you pay for. At the higher end, La Prairie's Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation ($430) incorporates the brand's world-famous caviar extract and is a great winter staple as it's long-lasting, with seamless coverage. At the lower end, Maybelline Fit Me Foundation ($13) offers lighter coverage but it's buildable, looks luxe and comes in 40 shades. Can't find a perfect match? At this price, you could simply blend two shades. For blush addicts, it's tough to go past Nars Blush in Orgasm ($56), even if only for the name. This cult favourite is the perfect peachy blend and can be worn on cheeks and eyes as well as over the bridge of the nose. Still, if you need a more affordable option, then Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink ($22) runs a close second. Loading For a go-to natural lip colour, YSL Loveshine Wet Shine Lipstick in Rosy Sand ($72) is a delightful nude-beige that glides on like a dream. It is a staple of 'no-mirror make-up', meaning you can apply it easily, even in the dark. For a perfect dupe, try Maybelline Color Sensational The Creams Lipstick in Nearly There ($21). For those who prefer red-hot lipsticks, we love M.A.C's Macxmil Silky Matte Lipstick in Russian Red ($40) as much as Revlon Colorstay Suede Ink Lipcolour in Bread Winner ($15) – both brilliant brick reds for statement lips. For pressed-powder fanatics, Too Faced Born This Way Soft Blur Setting Powder ($66) is the gold standard – smooth, lightweight and translucent, it's great for setting foundation and keeping shine at bay. A less extravagant alternative is Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder ($8). When it comes to splurge versus steal, mascaras are often a talking point because it's recommended they be replaced every two months. My choice on the luxe front is Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara in Midnight ($46), which has a clever dual-sided wand that lifts and separates lashes. Or, you could try L'Oréal Voluminous Mascara in Black ($11.50) to add volume without clumping.

Christine Lampard uses a £15 setting spray to keep makeup in place on Lorraine
Christine Lampard's makeup artist has shared the setting spray she uses to keep the TV presenter's makeup in place all day - and it's perfect for the heatwave Whether she's joining the Loose Women panel or stepping in as the host of Lorraine, Christine Lampard is no stranger to the camera's glare. This means her makeup game has to be spot-on, capable of withstanding the hot studio lights and long hours on set. Luckily, her makeup artist Helen Hand, who does Christine's makeup on Lorraine, has shared the details via Instagram. She revealed that the finishing touch to Christine's look is a spritz of ONE/SIZE On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray, promising up to 16 hours of makeup staying power. One satisfied shopper even claimed their makeup "lasted through 30 degree Island heat and an all day affair" thanks to the setting spray. This certainly caught our attention, suggesting it's not only perfect for a full workday or a day out, but also an ideal travel buddy to prevent makeup meltdown in hot climates. While you can grab the full-sized 143ml bottle for £30, there's also a handy travel-sized mini version available. The 46ml bottle costs just £15 and is perfect for popping into your hand luggage, saving space in your beauty bag, or simply giving it a whirl before committing to the larger size. You can also currently bag the 30ml travel-sized Urban Decay's All Nighter Setting Spray at a steal. Normally priced at £16.50, it's now only £13.20 on LookFantastic - so popular that over 100 units have been snapped up in just the last 48 hours. Or, if you fancy something different, Huda Beauty's Easy Bake Setting Spray is also getting a price chop, from £28 down to a tempting £22.40. The ONE/SIZE On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray offers an all-day flawless matte finish (claiming to last a minimum of 16 hours) and comes with a classic aerosol delivery system for a light and non-greasy feel. It's more than just a setting spray - it also contains green tea extract and witch hazel to tighten pores and absorb oil for that elusive matte and blurred skin effect, reports OK!. Sephora customers are also raving about its effectiveness. One review says: "The only thing that will keep my makeup on my skin! Even after 10 hours my makeup still looked pretty much perfect without any fading / smudging / creasing. And I have extremely oily skin so this is unheard of for me. It can be a little drying so I always use a hydrating mist before. I really recommend if you're looking for something to help your makeup stay all day!" While another reviewer raved: "I love this setting spray, I tried one for myself and then purchased one for friend's wedding day right after. It's got the most amazing mist applicator too." However, one customer was less enthused, stating: "Hate the strong scent and it irritates my skin. If you're looking for a setting spray that smells like and work like hairspray, this may be the product for you. The only good thing about it is that your makeup will stay on." Someone else concurred, saying: "While I will say that this is a great product for making sure your makeup really lasts, I think it's just too heavy and feels like hairspray. Something that I would only reach for if I'm going to an event, not for everyday!" On the other hand, some reviewers adored it, with one commenting: "I bought this for holiday and didn't have much expectation as I knew it was going to be very hot but this lasted all day, my makeup was in place, at times it felt like I was sweating but there was nothing completely flawless."

My favourite Urban Decay setting spray is under £8 with deal stack
Setting sprays are an essential part of make up routines, especially during the summer months when hot and humid weather threatens the masterpieces we have created. The Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray has been my holy grail for over a decade, and now shoppers can add it to their routine for a bargain price. Usually retailing at £28.50, Cult Beauty is currently offering the full-size 118ml setting spray for £22.80 when the special discount code WEDDINGSEASON is applied at the checkout. The good news doesn't end there, as savvy shoppers can save even more money on the All Nighter Setting Spray through TopCashback. New members who sign up to the money saving site for free get an extra 2% off at Cult Beauty plus a £15 cashback bonus that they can use when purchasing the setting spray, bringing the cost down to just £7.42. Meanwhile, existing TopCashback members can take advantage of the extra 2% Cult Beauty discount, bringing the price down to £22.42. The deal runs until 11.59pm on Monday, May 26. Cult Beauty's discount combined with TopCashback's deal makes the retailer the cheapest place to buy the Urban Decay setting spray, with LookFantastic currently offering it on sale for £23.60. There are many reasons why I've stuck with All Nighter for so many years, the main being it's the only setting spray I've used that makes my makeup last from morning until night without the need for touch-ups. Beauty fans interested in exploring other makeup setting sprays may be interested in the MAC Fix + Setting Spray that's available at Boots for £29. For shoppers looking for a more budget-friendly alternative, the e.l.f Power Grip Dewy Setting Spray costs £10 at Superdrug. The Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray is suitable for all skin types and claims to lock makeup in place for 'up to 16 hours', which I've found to be true. It's waterproof, smudge-proof and transfer-proof, plus it uses temperature control technology. I'm not the only beauty fan who adores the All Nighter Setting Spray, with it boasting an impressive rating of 4.81 out of five on Cult Beauty's website. One impressed buyer said: "This is the best setting spray there is or ever was, even when I try others they have nothing on All Nighter. Keeps my makeup on all day, even at a festival in the rain." A second wrote: "I could not wear any makeup without finishing it off with this setting spray. My makeup lasts ages when I use it, it doesn't irritate my skin and it leaves my face feeling so fresh and hydrated." Unfortunately one Cult Beauty customer was left disappointed with the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, as they explained: "It stings a bit and also makes my makeup drip." However, another shopper left a glowing review which reads: "I've been using this setting spray for about 10 years and will never use anything else, I've tried many others but nothing competes. This keeps my makeup on all day and night even in the rain, pool parties and foam parties - my makeup did not budge. As soon as I run out I rebuy, this is probably the best thing Urban Decay has ever made." To take advantage of this TopCashback offer to get the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray for £7.42, new members can sign up for free here. Search for 'Cult Beauty' and click 'Get Cashback Now'. Shop and checkout on the website as usual, remembering to apply Cult Beauty's discount code WEDDINGSEASON, and the cashback will track and appear in the account within seven working days of purchasing. The £15 cashback will become payable and available to withdraw and spend after Cult Beauty has paid TopCashback the commission.
