Marcos lauds Singapore's role in ensuring survival of Philippine Eagle

A male Philippine eagle named Geothermica is seen in an exclosure at Jurong Bird Park in Singapore on November 27, 2019. Singapore unveiled two Philippine eagles at its main aviary, the first breeding pair of the critically endangered raptors to be brought outside their native country as part of a conservation plan. Roslan Rahman/AFP President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Wednesday acknowledged Singapore for aiding the Philippines in protecting the Philippine Eagle, the endangered national bird of the Philippines. "I would like to acknowledge Singapore for ensuring the survival and propagation of some of the Philippines' endemic and endangered species, most notably the Philippine Eagle," Marcos said during a joint press conference with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Wong is in Manila for a two-day official visit. To recall, it was in 2019 when two Philippine eagles were flown to Singapore as part of a government loan program aimed at securing the population of the critically endangered species. EXPLAINER: Majestic but critically endangered Philippine Eagle However, Geothermica, one of the two Philippine eagles, passed away at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve on September 7, 2023, at the age of 19 years old. The Philippine eagle, which has white and brown plumage and an enormous wingspan, is classified as "critically endangered" by protection group the International Union for Conservation of Nature. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued pay guidelines for workers who will report for duty for Eid'l Adha and Independence Day. According to Labor Advisory 8 s. 2025, the following payment pay rules shall apply for June 6 (Eid'l Adha) and June 12 (Independence Day), which are considered regular holidays: lf the employee does not work, the employer shall pay 100% of the employee's wage for that day, provided that the employee reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday. Where the day immediately preceding the regular holiday is a non-working day in the establishment or the scheduled rest day of the employee, he or she shall be entitled to holiday pay if the employee reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the non-working day or rest day (Basic wage x 100%) For work done during the regular holiday, the employer shall pay a total of 200% of the employee's wage for that day for the first eight hours (Basic wage x 200%) For work done in excess of eight hours, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30% of the hourly rate on said day (Hourly rate of the basic wage x 200% x 130% x number of hours worked) For work done during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee's rest day, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30% of the basic wage of 200% (Basic wage x 200% x 130%) For work done in excess of eight hours during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee's rest day, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30% of the hourly rate on said day (Hourly rate of the basic wage x 200% x 130% x 130% x number of hours worked). In May, Malacañang issued Proclamation 911, declaring June 6, 2025, Friday, a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice. Eid'l Adha is one of the two important holidays in the Muslim calendar, the other being Eid'l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. During Eid'l Adha, Muslims slaughter sheep, goats, cows, and camels to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son on Allah's command. Meanwhile, Proclamation 727 included Independence Day as one of the regular holidays in the country. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

DSWD searching for woman who emerged from Makati drainage hole

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday said it would help the woman who surfaced from a drainage hole in Makati City. Members of the DSWD Pag-abot program visited the area in Salcedo Village, Barangay Bel-Air to locate the woman. "Once the woman's whereabouts have been traced, the Pag-abot team will reach out to her and provide appropriate interventions such as temporary shelter," the DSWD said in a social media post. Under the DSWD's Pag-abot program, social workers roam around Metro Manila to convince street dwellers to voluntarily come with them and be given interventions and assistance. According to a 24 Oras report on Tuesday, images of the woman emerging from the drainage hole at the corner of Rufino and Adelentado Streets in Legazpi Village have been making rounds on social media. The person who uploaded the images said the woman started running wildly after she left the drainage, with security guards chasing after her. It is unclear as to what the woman was doing inside the drainage and whether her pursuers caught up with her. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

Possible flash floods or landslides may occur in some areas as a result of these weather conditions. Meanwhile, light to moderate winds with slight to moderate coastal waters are expected in some parts of the country. Temperatures will range from a minimum of 24.8 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 35.8 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours.
