TDB to host global Ayyappa meet at Pamba next month

T'puram: Devaswom minister V N Vasavan said the first-ever Global Ayyappa Convention will be organized in Sept. The event, part of devaswom board's 75th anniversary, will be held in Pamba. State govt and Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) will jointly organize the convention in the third week of Sept, he said. It aims to spread the message of 'Tat Tvam Asi' globally and to present Sabarimala as a divine, traditional and sustainable global pilgrimage centre. This first-ever Global Ayyappa Convention in Kerala will bring together Ayyappa devotees from various parts of the world and India. Around 3,000 delegates are expected to attend the event. The event is planned between Sept 16 and 21, with the exact date to be decided later. Invited delegates will have the opportunity to arrive a day earlier for darshan before participating in the convention. A German tent, similar to those used during the pilgrimage season, will be constructed in Pamba to accommodate 3,000 people. Kerala govt to hold global Ayyappa devotees meet at Sabarimala in September

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 7 (PTI) The Kerala government is going to hold a global Ayyappa devotees meet at Sabarimala in September, state Devasom Minister V N Vasavan said on Thursday. The one-day meet, being held for the first time in Kerala, will be jointly organised with the Travancore Devaswom Board in the third week of September, between 16 to 21, the minister said at a press meet here. Ayyappa devotees from all over the world and various states of the country will be brought together on one platform at the meet which is being organised as part of the 75th anniversary of the Board, he said. The devotees' meet to be held in Pampa is being organised with the aim of spreading the message of universal humanity called 'Tatvamasi' throughout the world and 'presenting Sabarimala to the world as a divine, traditional and sustainable global pilgrimage center", the minister said. Around 3,000 delegates are expected to take part in the meet which will be the beginning of larger similar gatherings in future, he said. Vasavan said that arrangements will be made in such a manner that devotees will arrive a day before the event and have darshan at the Lord Ayyappa shrine before taking part in the meet. A German pavilion similar to the one used during the annual pilgrimage season at the shrine will be constructed in Pampa to provide seating for 3,000 people, he said. Vizhinjam port completes a year of operations

T'puram: Vizhinjam International Seaport on Friday completed a year since the first ship docked at the port. Since July 11 last year, the port has handled 393 ships and 8.3 lakh containers. Minister V N Vasavan said that it is a landmark moment for the port. "In this period, Vizhinjam achieved remarkable progress that amazed the world. The ship San Fernando arrived with containers on July 11, 2024, and commercial operations began in Dec 2024," the minister said. In the past year, 392 ships arrived at Vizhinjam, including 23 ultra-large container ships like the MSC Irina, which is considered one of the largest container ships in the world. Many of these ships, including the Irina, berthed in India for the first time, Vasavan added. "Vizhinjam has become one of the rare ports globally to operate at full capacity within the initial months of commercial operation. It paved the way for India to demonstrate its capability to operate ports using advanced technologies like automation and AI," he added. Nearly 400 vessels arrived at Vizhinjam port in last one year: Kerala Minister Vasavan

Kerala Ports Minister V N Vasavan on Friday said that nearly 400 container ships had docked at the Vizhinjam transshipment hub in the past year since the first vessel arrived at the port. Vasavan, in a Facebook post on the occasion of the first anniversary of the first ship to berth at the port, claimed that Vizhinjam has also managed to become the number one port on the south-east coast of India after commencing commercial operations in December last year. The port was dedicated to the nation on May 2 this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The minister said that since the arrival of the San Fernando ship at the port on July 11, 2024, 392 ships, including 23 ultra-large vessels, have arrived at the transshipment hub and 8.3 lakh containers were handled. He claimed that the port was able to work at full capacity right from the start of its commercial operations, a rarity in the world.
