VTU releases results in an hour after exams
Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi based technological university, has released results of the final semester within an hour of completing the final examination on Friday. Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar claimed it had broken its own earlier record of announcing results in three hours of the examination. They will get the provisional degree certificates on June 3. The results of 50,321 final semester students of B.E./ has been released in an hour of the students completing the final examination. The examination ended at 6.30 p.m. on Friday. The results were declared in an hour. VTU sent result sheets by WhatsApp messages to all students. 'This the second time VTU is breaking its own historic milestone of announcing the results in a record time. The first time, results for the 2019 batch of 43,662 students were declared on 30.05.2023, two days after the final exam. The second time a batch of 37,011 graduates got their results in three hours after the examination. Today, we conveyed the results in an hour of the final examination. We have also ensured that results were declared on May 30, in the last three years. He said the theory papers were evaluated before the practical examinations began. Once the practicals ended, we compiled the results and released them,' he said. 'The swift release of results for BE, BArch, BPlan. (Honors) programs will greatly benefit students in their job search and further academic pursuits. Beginning on May 31st, students who have successfully completed all their semester exams and fulfilled their degree requirements can apply online for their provisional degree certificates (PDC). PDC will be issued from June 3rd. Students who apply for revaluation are not eligible for PDC,' he said. This remarkable achievement reflects the committed and visionary leadership, unwavering commitment of VTU staff. VTU Kalaburagi Regional Centre distributes laptops among SC/ST students
In an initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusive education, the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Regional Centre in Kalaburagi distributed laptops to 70 eligible students from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. The distribution ceremony took place at the VTU's Regional Centre for Postgraduate Studies in Kalaburagi on Friday. Beneficiaries included students from MTech programmes (CSE, VLSI, CCT, and CHT), MCA, MBA, and undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Electronics. Addressing the students on the occasion, B. Shambhu Lingappa, director of VTU's Regional Centre for Postgraduate Studies, Kalaburagi, lauded VTU Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar for consistently prioritising student welfare and holistic development. 'Mr. Vidyashankar's initiatives to distribute laptops among the students from marginalised sections for enhancing the academic and technical proficiency of students is commendable. This initiative, spearheaded by VTU's SC/ST Cell, is a significant step towards ensuring equal access to digital resources and fostering educational empowerment. It reflects the university's commitment to supporting students from disadvantaged communities in their academic pursuits. The procurement and implementation of the laptop distribution programme was made possible through the efforts of Pralhad Rathod, Liaison Officer (Belagavi), who played a pivotal role in its execution,' he said. He also reaffirmed VTU's dedication to providing all students with an equitable and technologically advanced learning environment by stating that the initiative marked another significant stride towards empowering students from underprivileged backgrounds and reducing the digital divide in higher education. Students told to develop a positive mindset to face challenges
The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling 2025 was successfully organised in Bidar on Saturday. Resource persons from diverse fields addressed students and answered their questions in the event held at the Poojya Channabasava Pattaddevaru Rang Mandir. Resource persons from the Karnataka Examinations Authority CET cell and the VTU regional centre in Kalaburagi also addressed students. Sunil Panwar, chief conservator of forests and member-secretary of Zoo Authority of Karnataka, Mysuru, inaugurated the event. His talk focussed on personality development of youth and developing a positive mindset to face challenges in life. 'One is forced to face rejections and disappointments. But they should not lead us to dejection, anxiety or stress. Each defeat or loss should serve as a stepping stone to success and help us prepare better for the challenges to come. Only those who learn from their mistakes and failures, succeed. Their quality of life is also markedly better than those who are easily upset and lose heart,' he said. He asked students to harness the power of positive thinking and learn to live a balanced, stress-free life. Dr. Panwar also spoke of the urgent need for graduates of various disciplines to develop specific set of skills. 'There are studies that show that over 80% of the graduates are not employable as they do not have the skills required by the industry. Youth should resolve to acquire these skills. They should take it upon themselves to learn them and practise them, based on industrial trends,' he said. Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Sharma held an engaging session with the students, asking them questions about their career choices and family background. She gave them real life situations that are faced by young officer in their line of duty and asked them how they would react to them. 'Don't do anything because anyone tells you. Do it only if you are convinced,' she said. She told the students to learn as many languages as possible as it would open doors to multiple cultures and civilisations. She also asked them to pick up a hobby and art form. When a student asked her why she chose the civil services, she said she was looking for a bigger canvas to fill. She related her UPSC journey and how she prepared for the examination. She said that she was serving with NTPC after her BTech from NIT Hamirpur, but she was not happy. She urged the students to be clear about their goal, its limitation and advantages. 'A guide to your future', The Hindu career guidance handbook was released by the guests. Syed Sadat Pasha, UPSC coach and career counsellor of CIGMA India, spoke on the various career opportunities available in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams. He involved students in a short skit to make them realise the importance of motivation, energy and career planning. Chartered accountant Manu Kumar Pujari spoke about the scope for commerce graduates. He quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had said: 'The signature of the CA was more important than the signature of the PM'. He told them about the various challenges in facing the CA examination and the joy gained in working as a CA. S.B. Sangappa, national executive council member, Indian Society for Technical Education, and S. Shambhu Lingappa, regional director of VTU centre in Kalaburagi, spoke about choosing the best engineering courses and postgraduate education in engineering. Dr. Sangappa asked students not to follow the herd mentality and to carve their own path. Dr. Lingappa spoke of the various courses offered by VTU in various campuses and the potential in emerging areas like Artificial Intelligence and machine learning. He asked them to follow their passion and not fall into the trap of courses marketed as 'trendy'. Ramya Krishna P., CET counselling coordinator from the government polytechnic in Bidar, spoke about the seat selection process, the KEA website, and their new app.

5 teams formed to probe religious book burning in Belagavi
Belagavi police commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang constituted five special teams on Tuesday to investigate the alleged desecration of a religious book in Santi Bastawad village, as tensions continue to simmer in parts of Belagavi district. Martin said that a case has been registered in the matter and senior officers are monitoring the probe and teams have been formed to identify and nab the culprits. 'We have some clues and will investigate the matter further,' he said. The unrest began on Monday when worshippers at a mosque in Santi Bastawad, located around 10 km from Belagavi city, discovered that several prayer books, including copies of the Quran, were missing from a shelf. A search led to the discovery of half-burnt religious texts in an agricultural field near the place of worship, triggering anger and protests across the area. 'Several people from various prayer houses in Belagavi taluk held protests in their respective places,' said Martin, adding that tensions rose after elders from the mosque found the burnt pages of the Quran. 'The CCTV camera installed on the building was removed coincidentally on the day of the incident for some repair work. An investigation into the incident is underway, and we will nab the culprits,' he added. Protesters from Santi Bastawad, Peeranwadi, Machche and neighbouring villages attempted to march into Belagavi city to submit a memorandum to the district administration on Tuesday. However, police intercepted them en route and allowed them to hold a demonstration along the Belagavi-Goa highway near Visvesvarayya Technological University (VTU), leading to traffic disruptions for over two hours. Amid the unrest, Martin and deputy commissioner of police Rohan Jagadeesh met the demonstrators and assured them that those responsible would face legal consequences. The police commissioner appealed to community leaders and elders to maintain peace and assist in identifying the culprits. 'Avoid actions that could disturb public order,' he said. Congress assembly member Asif (Raju) Sait, who joined the protest and submitted a memorandum to the police, accused the administration of failing to take strong action in similar past incidents. 'I have told the police commissioner that the negligence and dereliction of duty of some police officers was provoking some anti-social elements to engage in such offences. I have asked for a transfer of all erring officials,' he said. The MLA urged villagers to remain calm and not let such acts undermine the communal harmony of the region. PWD minister Satish Jarkiholi, who was in Belagavi on Tuesday to review development projects, also took note of the situation. He instructed police officials to conduct a scientific investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. With inputs from PTI
