Five Coimbatore cops placed under suspension for taking bribe, misconduct
Coimbatore: City police commissioner A Saravana Sundar on Thursday evening placed five police personnel under suspension for various misconduct. A traffic police inspector facing corruption charges was, meanwhile, transferred to the police control room on Friday. An official source identified the suspended cops as Manikandan, a head constable with the Vadavalli police station; Vadivelu, a constable attached to the Selvapuram police station; Maharajan, a constable with the Variety Hall Road police station; and head constable Kapoor and constable Vinoth, both attached to the Podanur police station. He said head constable Manikandan had threatened a motorist named Senthil Kumar, who was caught with a beer bottle on his motorcycle during a vehicle check on the night of June 3, to pay the cash he had with him for not registering a drunk driving case against him. "The head constable told the motorist that he had to shell out Rs10,000 in fine for drunk driving. The motorist paid him Rs700 and his friend, who came to know about the incident, approached police. Subsequently, a probe was initiated against Manikandan, who was placed under suspension on Thursday." When his friend Vadivelu approached him to secure the call detail report for a particular mobile number, he obtained the same. The call detail report is usually collected in connection with crime and other cases. Now, senior police officials have begun an inquiry into the particular mobile number." He said head constable Kapoor and constable Vinoth were placed under suspension for taking a bribe of Rs1,000 from a drunkard on the night of May 30 for not registering a case against him. In another instance, deputy police commissioner (traffic) Ashok Kumar on Friday posted city traffic police inspector (west) Periyasamy at the police control room for taking money from motorists for not booking them for traffic violations. ‘Maareesan' teaser: Fahadh Faasil, Vadivelu reunite in an intriguing road thriller
The teaser of the upcoming Tamil film, Maareesan, starring Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, was unveiled by the makers on Wednesday (June 4). Written by V Krishna Moorthy and directed by Sudheesh Sankar, the film marks a reunion between the two actors after their acclaimed 2023 film Maamannan. The teaser, set to the popular 'Aaha Inba Nilaavinile' song from 1957's Mayabazar, opens with aerial shots that track two men on a bike (played by Fahadh and Vadivelu) travelling through different landscapes. Everything points towards a breezy, feel-good road film, until the two lead characters begin to sing the Mayabazar song. The table turns, and we begin to see glimpses of a thriller story. The 83-minute teaser does a great job at piquing our interests without revealing much about the film's plot. The teaser also shows actor Vivek Prasanna as Fahadh's character's friend, while veteran comedian Kovai Sarala and actor-producer PL Thenappan appear as cops. Sithara, Livingston, Renuka, Saravana Subbiah, Krishna, Haritha, and Telephone Raja are also part of the cast of Maareesan. With music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film has cinematography by Kalaiselvan Sivaji and editing by Sreejith Sarang. RB Choudary produces the film under his Super Good Films banner.

In pursuit of his main goal, Sundar's on-screen character forms a comical gang with the school staff. Besides him, the film, directed by Sundar C himself, also stars Vadivelu, Catherine Tresa, Vani Bhojan and Bagavathi Perumal in key roles.
