17 modified food vehicles get licence cancellation notices for blocking traffic

Indore: In a concerted effort to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety, Indore regional transport office has issued notices to 17 modified vehicles being used for selling juice and other food items on city streets, to cancel their licences. These vehicles, often parked on side walks and roadsides, significantly impede traffic. The action was taken on the directives of collector Asheesh Singh during a recent road safety committee meeting, where he called for strict measures against illegally modified vehicles. Following the order, the municipal corporation provided the transport department with a list of 17 such vehicles seized during anti-encroachment drives. Consequently, the transport department issued notices to owners of these vehicles, demanding a response within seven days. Vehicle owners are required to appear at transport office with their vehicles and documents within the stipulated period. If a vehicle is found to be illegally modified during inspection, its registration will be cancelled. Vehicle owners must also present all relevant documents. ARTO Rajesh Gupta confirmed that notices have been issued to all vehicles on the list received. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Вот что поза во сне говорит о вашем характере! ARTO Gupta stated that information regarding these interstate vehicles has been retrieved from the 'Vahan' portal. To facilitate registration cancellation, letters will be sent to the respective transport departments in those states. All vehicle details have been extracted from the portal, and notices have been dispatched to their registered addresses. This initiative is part of a broader directive from the district administration to take action against all vendors selling goods from vehicles on city footpaths and roads. Going forward, modified vehicles found in violation will be seized, and their registrations will be cancelled. Collector Asheesh Singh specifically ordered this action during the ongoing crackdown on footpath encroachments.

Electric three-wheelers, e-rickshaws could soon be rated like cars. Here's why it matters

New Delhi: The central government is considering safety ratings for electric three-wheelers and electric rickshaws amid a surge in the adoption of electric vehicles in the three-wheeler segment. The ministry of road transport and highways is discussing the inclusion of electric three-wheelers to ensure the safety of the occupants and the durability of the vehicle in crash collisions, according to two people aware of the development. The new safety benchmarks are likely to follow a five-star rating system under the ambit of the Bharat National Car Assessment Programme (NCAP), said the first person mentioned above. The plan is likely to be opened for public consultation within the next three to six months. Queries sent to the ministry on 3 June did not elicit a response till press time. Under Bharat NCAP, vehicles undergo crash tests to assess performance in two key areas: adult occupant protection (AOP) and child occupant protection (COP). Ratings range from one star (lowest) to five stars (highest). To receive a safety rating, vehicles must undergo both frontal and side-impact crash tests. The AOP category allows for a maximum score of 32 points, while COP is capped at 49 points. A five-star rating requires at least 27 points in AOP and 41 points in COP. Although Bharat NCAP is currently voluntary for automakers, the road transport and highways ministry can recommend that specific models be evaluated under the programme, per a notification issued in September 2023. The battery of an electric vehicle can be a major risk factor in case of collisions and significantly harm passengers, said the second person mentioned above. Also Read: EVs hit with falling resale value as consumer demand cools EV adoption This comes at a time when electric three-wheelers are leading India's electric mobility adoption in the country. According to Vahan portal data, 6.99 lakh electric three-wheelers were sold in FY25, making up 57% of the total three-wheeler sales in the country. This was higher than the 6.32 lakh such vehicles sold in the previous fiscal, when they made up 54% of all three-wheelers sold. In comparison, only about 1.01 lakh electric cars were sold in the country in FY25, accounting for about 2.6% of all cars sold. About 11.11 lakh electric motorcycles and scooters were sold in FY25, making up roughly 6% of all such vehicles sold in the country, Vahan data showed. There were safety concerns about e-rickshaws, identified as L3 models, as they were smaller models running on lead-acid batteries initially and produced by unregulated manufacturers, said Maxson Lewis, managing director and chief executive officer, Magenta Mobility. L3 electric rickshaws are used for small distances and last-mile mobility, while L5 models of electric three-wheelers can carry more passengers or cargo and cover longer distances. "There was a huge issue with toppling of these tuk-tuks, as they used to be called, which are electric three wheelers and many such cases essentially because they were not properly designed," said Lewis. Lewis said that safety and quality issues have plagued L5 models too, and manufacturers might try to pass on the additional cost of crash tests to consumers. Maruti eyes 4 lakh exports to offset domestic slump

1 2 3 Kolkata: Maruti Suzuki has set a target of 4 lakh exports in 2025-26, a 20% growth over the 3.3 lakh cars it exported in 2024-25. Exports this May were 80% higher than last May. Aggressive exports helped the company overcome sluggish domestic sales, to record 3% overall sales growth. Domestic sales were down 5.5% in May as mini and compact car sales continued to slide, impacted by both the rise in prices of entry-level vehicles as well as due to sales taking a hit in key northwestern markets amid the conflict between India and Pakistan. Rahul Bharti, Maruti Suzuki's senior executive officer (corporate affairs), said the aggressive exports strategy compensated for the slowdown in the domestic market where industry retail sales were down 4%, according to Vahan figures. In April and May, Maruti Suzuki exported 59,130 cars. South Africa was the largest market, accounting for 27% of exports, followed by Japan at 16% and Chile at 11%. Maruti Suzuki exports to 100 countries. Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Swift, Ertiga are the top export models. Once the company starts manufacturing the eVitara, it will export the car to Europe and Japan. The company has raised its exports over the past few years. It exported 2.4 lakh cars in 2021-22, 2.6 lakh cars in 2022-23, 2.8 lakh in 2023-24 and 3.3 lakh in 2024-25. The 4 lakh export target was higher than the 3 lakh sales clocked by Toyota Kirloskar, the fifth-ranked automaker in India, in 2024-25. In the domestic market, the three most sold cars in May were all Maruti Suzuki products: Dzire, Ertiga and Brezza. Even though sales this May were 5.5% lower than in May 2024. Senior executive officer Partha Banerjee attributed the decline in sales to the rise in the cost of entry-level cars, due to regulatory compliance, that made them unaffordable for a large section of potential customers. The mini segment is down 31.6%, with sales crashing from 9,902 units in May 2024 to 6,776 in May 2025. The compact segment also took a hit with sales down 11%, from 68,206 in May 2024 to 61,502 in May 2025. "The India-Pakistan conflict in May impacted sales in the border states of Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat and the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir that contribute 22% to the company's sales pie. Many customers who took finance have not taken deliveries. Sales of vehicles to tourist taxi operators have also taken a hit," Banerjee said.

India-Pakistan conflict dented car sales in border states in May

The India-Pakistan conflict dampened car sales in May as industry dispatches stood at about 3.52 lakh units, remaining at a similar level compared to the same month last year. Vahan data shows that vehicle registration plummeted 4% in May. India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki (MSIL), said that the conflict impacted their sales last month as it enjoys a market share of around 55% in states like Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat. 'The states contribute close to 22% of our sales, and the cities which were impacted account for almost 9% of our sales,' said MSIL Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales) Partho Banerjee on Monday. MSIL's domestic PV wholesales fell 6% in May 2025 to 135,962 units compared to 1,44,002 units in the year-ago month. Not only Maruti Suzuki, but other carmakers also registered a dip in retail sales across the border states as tensions between the two nations peaked after India carried out Operation Sindoor to avenge the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. MSIL also cited weakening demand for entry-level cars as a key factor behind the decline in overall sales volume. 'Fundamentally, the cost of the vehicles is going up as the number of regulations is getting added, and that is an affordability issue, which we all have been talking about. Until the time the small car markets don't start growing, people don't upgrade from a two-wheeler to a four-wheeler. I think this problem will be there,' said Banerjee.
