They Said Their ‘I Dos' Near the Roses and Rye Bread

Fern Watt showed up for her first date with Max Benjamin Horwitz in August 2020, knowing things might go haywire. 'I was looking at Bette like, please don't mess this up,' Ms. Watt said of her 40-pound cattle dog mix. 'She's high-strung and doesn't let many humans into her inner circle.' For months after the onset of Covid, it had been just the two of them in her apartment in Beachwood Canyon, Calif. But meeting Mr. Horwitz for a sunset beach picnic in Venice Beach, where he lived alone with his labradoodle, Oscar, wasn't an invitation she wanted to pass up. Both were starved for human companionship. 'It was those days when people didn't want to see anybody not in their bubble,' Mr. Horwitz said. That Ms. Watt, Mr. Horwitz, Bette and Oscar managed to hit it off despite Bette's issues and a charcuterie board caked in sand feels remarkable to both. 'We had a first kiss standing in the ocean with water up to our knees,' Ms. Watt said of that night. 'It felt like a rom-com.' Ms. Watt, who said she has always related to Sally Albright, the Meg Ryan character from 'When Harry Met Sally…,' is well versed in them. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Legendary Aussie actor Paul Hogan seen arriving at Sydney Airport in wheelchair

Veteran Aussie actor Paul Hogan has made a welcome return home to Australia. The Crocodile Dundee star was seen arriving at Sydney Airport on Wednesday, with airport staff pushing him through the terminal in a wheelchair following his long-haul flight from the US. Despite looking frail, the 85-year-old was looked happy and in good spirits behind a pair of black sunglasses as he joked with staff attending to him. Hogan appeared to be travelling alone without his 27-year-old son Chance, who with the actor is rumoured to be planning to relocate to Australia from their home base in Venice Beach, California. Just weeks ago, Hogan was spotted having dinner in LA with his ex-wife Linda Kozlowski, 67, his co-star on the 1986 action-comedy Crocodile Dundee who is also the mother of Chance. They were married in 1990 but divorced in 2013. The former couple, who had not been seen together in public in six-years, were accompanied by their son and Kozlowski's longtime partner Moulay Hafid Baba. In a previous interview with the Daily Telegraph, former Sydneysider Hogan said the only reason he still lives in the US is because of Chase, who lives with him in Venice Beach. 'I've been homesick for years,' he told the masthead in 2022. 'I miss the people, the ambience – and there's something you just can't put your finger on, but there's something about Australia that is friendlier and more laid-back.' 'I'd rather be there, but I have my last child who is an American – he only has me, whereas my tribe at home, they've all got each other.' Hogan has five other children from his previous marriage to Noelene Edwards. They were married in 1958 before separating and divorcing in 1981. Together they share five adult children: Brett, Clay, Scott, Todd and Lauren. Hogan was last in Australia in January this year when he attended the re-release of Crocodile Dundee almost 40 years later. Crocodile Dundee: The Encore Cut had cut out the film's infamous groping scene involving his character Mick Dundee – a move Hogan welcomed. 'It's not a matter of wokeness,' he told the Daily Telegraph at the time. '[Mick Dundee] is outback. He wouldn't grope people.'

(Full classroom, everyone is talking to each other, first day back at school. People are sitting on desks, and congregated around different tables.) (Teacher comes in from stage left, looking grumpy and groggy.) READ MORE Teacher: (Walking to desk quiet, mumbling, straining.) Students, can I have your attention please? (Everyone keeps chatting.) Teacher: (Gets to desk, little louder.) Quiet please! Stop talking to each other! (Everyone keeps talking.) Teacher: (Gets to her desk, shouting.) SILENCE! (She hits a ruler off the desk so hard it breaks.) (Everyone rushes to their seat, and once seated they are shifting uncomfortably. There is silence.) Teacher: (Slow on her words, walking to the door.) All right, before I take the roll call, (Rebecca enters. ), we have a transfer student, Rebecca Jones. Rebecca, would you like to introduce yourself to the class? (Rebecca stands in front of the class, nervously but she is upbeat, lovely and nice.) Rebecca: Hello everyone, my name is Rebecca Jones. I'm a transfer student from Chicago. I love playing basketball and listening to music, especially hip-hop so I'm really excited to be here because I love West Coast rap music. I also love the beach. So if anyone would like to hang out at Venice Beach after school, I'd love to make some friends! (Some students are sleepy, most are listening to her and looking at her in awe. Alex, is not really paying attention, and has his head down doodling.) (Rebecca walks down and sits in the row behind Alex, and he looks at her while she passes, but he looks away shyly.) Teacher: (More settled and awake.) Siobhán, can you show Rebecca around after this period? Eric: (Puts up his hand.) Mrs Jefferson, I can show her around. (He turns around to face Rebecca.) I'm sure she wants to sign up for the basketball team, right? Teacher: (Annoyed.) I asked Siobhán, Eric. It's a nice gesture, but I think Rebecca would be more comfortable with another girl. (Eric looks agitated, but changes his expression to not show his true emotions because he needs to appear like he is calm and collected and not annoyed.) Alex: (Sneers at Eric and mutters under his breath) Good save there, teach. (Eric glares back) Teacher: All right, time for your first lesson of History 101. Everyone open your books to chapter one. (Alex smiles and looks up attentively – history is his favourite subject. He goes to open his book, and knocks a pencil on the ground. When he turns to pick up, Rebecca has also reached down and is smiling at him. He grabs it, and turns away without acknowledging her. She is surprised at the reaction but she gets back to her books. Wild nepo baby branded a ‘terrible person' by movie star dad… can you tell who?

AN ICONIC 80s movie star has branded his own son a "terrible person". This nepo baby's dad, now 85, launched to fame in a very famous film franchise - but can you guess who we are talking about? 6 6 6 6 The actor in question is Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan. The Australian movie star has opened up about his son Chance, 27, who has recently sparked concern. The dad-of-five shares his youngest child with his second wife, and Crocodile Dundee co-star, Linda Kozlowski - who he divorced in 2014. Speaking on the chat show Today, Paul revealed he wanted to move back Down Under but was unable to do so as he needed to stay in America to "be with his son". "I have business reasons and my son to stay in the States for now," he said. When asked how his son was doing, Paul candidly said: "Alright. Better than he gets. "He gets a lot of tabloid stuff, but he's a terrible person because he knows they're watching him and he puts something on for them." Chance, who is an aspiring musician, lives in Venice Beach with his dad. However, Paul is referring to how his son frequently makes headlines over his erratic behaviour. Chance most recently sparked concern for his welfare back in January, when he posted a video where he appeared intoxicated. He was seen slurring his words and said to the camera: "This is my life. This is what it's been reduced to." Chillingly he added: "Please. Please kill me. I'm begging you." He was also well known on British TV for Foster's lager adverts, playing an Australian abroad in London. The line "Struth, there's a bloke down there with no strides on!" followed him around for years. Following his successful career, Paul now prefers to maintain a low profile. In November 2022, the actor appeared in an interview on A Current Affair to discuss the extent of his health struggles. He said: '[I've] been better. I had a problem on the aorta in the kidney and the treatment fixed it, but it shrunk me,' 'I just... I've lost all my body fat and the muscles all shrank and the strength has come back, because it left me feeble. I get Chance to open jars for me.' 6
