IPL 2025: KKR Says Late Rule Change Cost Them Playoff Spot
Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore has criticised the IPL Governing Council's decision to allow 120 minutes of extra time for the remaining league matches, calling it 'ad hoc' and 'inconsistent.' The rule change — approved with just nine league matches left — was aimed at ensuring full games despite rain. But Mysore questioned its timing, especially since KKR's playoff hopes were dashed by a washout on May 17 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the very day the tournament resumed after a break. 'When the IPL restarted, it was clear that the first game — RCB vs KKR — was at high risk of being interrupted due to rain,' Mysore reportedly said in an email. 'The forecast was there for all to see. The match was washed out, and the additional 120 minutes now being applied might have allowed at least a five-over game.' Under the earlier rules, league matches had a one-hour extension window. The change now brings league matches in line with the playoffs, which already had a two-hour buffer. Mysore argued that such provisions should have been introduced uniformly from the moment the tournament resumed. 'These mid-season changes may be necessary under the circumstances,' he added, 'but one would have expected more consistency. The washout ended KKR's playoff chances. I'm sure you understand why we feel aggrieved.' KKR and RCB shared points after rain forced a no-result in Bengaluru, eliminating the defending champion from contention. Related Topics IPL 2025

IPL franchises unhappy with BCCI changing playing conditions mid-season; 'aggrieved' KKR shoots email: Report
Kolkata Knight Riders have reportedly sent a stern email to the BCCI, complaining about changes to the IPL 2025 playing conditions midway through the season, which may favour some teams over others. read more KKR have complained there needs to be consistency with how BCCI changes IPL playing conditions. Image: Reuters Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are reportedly unhappy with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) changing the Indian Premier League (IPL) playing conditions midway during the 2025 season. The Kolkata franchise has also written to the BCCI to express their displeasure. The BCCI tweaked the playing conditions for the remaining IPL 2025 league games on Tuesday, as per which 120 minutes of extra time will be added to the matches. The two-hour extra time allowance is a norm for playoff matches, but not IPL league games. However, with the tournament now pushed back by over a week due to the India-Pakistan conflict and the onset of monsoon in India, the BCCI has decided to add 120 minutes of extra time to league games to complete a 20-over match. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD KKR asks BCCI to be consistent with rule changes KKR, who are already out of the IPL 2025, are aggrieved by the alterations to the playing conditions midway through the tournament. One of the reasons for KKR's unhappiness is that their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on 17 May at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was washed out due to rain when old playing conditions were in force. An extra 120 minutes could have allowed the organisers to complete that match and had KKR won, they would have still been alive in the playoffs race. Interestingly, the 17 May match was the first game after the IPL restarted this season. KKR CEO Venky Mysore, in his mail to the COO of the IPL, Hemang Amin, said that he expects consistency from BCCI in how they make the changes to playing conditions, reported Cricbuzz. 'While these mid-season changes to the rules may be necessary under the circumstances, one would have expected more consistency in the way such changes are being applied,' Venky Mysore wrote in an email. 'When the IPL re-started (on May 17), it was clear that the first game on May 17 KKR vs RCB was at high risk of being interrupted due to rain in B'lore. The forecast was there for all to see. Not only was the game washed out, but the additional 120 minutes now being applied may have provided a chance of at least a 5 over a side game (sic).' The washout in Bengaluru led to the . 'The washout ended KKR's chances of making the playoffs. Such ad hoc decisions and inconsistencies of applying them are not appropriate for a tournament of this standing,' Mysore said, adding, 'I am sure you also understand why we feel aggrieved.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD IPL franchises unhappy with BCCI As per the Cricbuzz report, besides KKR, other teams are also unhappy with the BCCI changing rules midway during a season and fear it could 'set a wrong precedent.' As per changes, the IPL match can now start as late as 9.30 PM if impacted due to rain. No overs will be deducted till 9.30 PM. Earlier, with only one hour of extra time available, overs would have been reduced if play hadn't started by 8:30 PM. With the revised cut-off, even a five-over match can now begin as late as midnight.

'We Have Always Been Top 3': Venky Mysore Backs 'Resilient' KKR To Make A Comeback In IPL 2025
Published By : PTI KKR CEO Venky Mysore supports the team despite a tough season, urging players to draw inspiration from past comebacks. KKR needs five wins in six games to reach playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore has thrown his weight behind the team despite its stuttering campaign this season, calling it a 'resilient" unit and urging players to draw inspiration from the side's dramatic turnaround in the title-winning 2014 season under Gautam Gambhir. The defending champions slumped to their fifth defeat in eight matches on Sunday, going down by 39 runs to Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens. With only six points on the board, KKR now face an uphill task in their bid to reach the playoffs, needing to win at least five of their remaining six matches to stay in contention. advetisement 'This is a very resilient team, the Knight Riders. This is our 18th season, we've always been in top-three," Mysore said during a promotional event here. He recalled their campaigns in 2014 and 2021 when they bounced back, winning the title and reaching the final respectively. 'There are two instances that come to my mind that I always share with new people who come into the setup… 'In 2014, at the halfway stage we won only two and lost five, but you know what happened in 2014, we set an IPL record and won nine games on the trot and won the IPL. 'After that we played the Champions League, and we won five in a row. So there's a record of 14 wins in a row. That was not a flash in the pan. In 2021, we again had two wins and five losses, we went on to play the final. 'So anything can happen in this format. There's still plenty of games left and it's a matter of somebody showing that inspiration to get us across the line. The inspiration can come from anywhere." Advertisement Mysore urged fans and critics alike not to get too caught up in the league table, highlighting that the IPL's unpredictability often offers unexpected turnarounds. 'Sometimes you get caught up with the IPL, we see the table, wins and losses… then you put things in perspective — there's a life way beyond table, wins and losses — and you can draw inspiration from anywhere. The kind of experience we have, certainly something can spark." advetisement The franchise has brought back their former assistant coach Abhishek Nayar into the fold. Nayar, who had briefly parted ways with KKR to join as India's assistant coach, returned just a day after the news broke that his contract with the BCCI was terminated. The timing of Nayar's return could not have been more crucial, as the team's batters are undergoing a tough phase and they would be looking to regroup and reset. advetisement Aside from skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who has shown steady form but has not been able to carry the team over the line, the rest of the batting line-up has faltered under pressure. Rahane expressed joy at Nayar's return, describing him as an invaluable part of the KKR ecosystem. top videos View All 'It's good to have Abhishek back in the setup. He's been an important member of the side. As players, for me, we all are really happy to see him back. 'He's really passionate, he knows each and every player. His role in this team is really important so we all are really happy," Rahane said. Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore has refused to count his team out of the playoffs race. Mysore recalls Knight Riders' past feats to motivate the team
Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore looked back at the three-time champion's journey to seek inspiration for the team which has been going through a lean patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League. At the launch of its 'Shahoshi Rani' initiative during the Knight Golf event at the Royal Calcutta Golf Course on Tuesday, Mysore hoped the team, which has three wins and five losses and needs five wins from its six remaining engagements to reach the play-offs, would fight back. 'There're two instances that come to my mind that I always share with new people who are coming to this setup. In 2014, at halfway point, we had won only two and lost five. Do you know what happened in 2014? We set an IPL record and won nine matches (including the final) in-a-row. We played in the Champions League and won five in-a-row. There's a record of 14 wins in a row. 'In 2021, we were again two wins and five losses. We went to the final. Anything can happen in this format. There're still plenty of matches left. It's a matter of somebody showing that inspiration to get us across the line,' said Mysore. KKR mentor Dwayne Bravo backed the players. 'There's no outside pressure. The players give their best at practice. The results are not going in our way. We've to keep believing and trust the process,' said Bravo. Captain Ajinkya Rahane welcomed former assistant coach Abhishek Nayar midway through the IPL. 'He's been here for very long. His role has been really important,' said Rahane.
