Ted Cruz was with president when Musk's barrage of attacks started: ‘Trump was pissed'
Sen. Ted Cruz was with a fuming President Trump as Elon Musk viciously attacked his former ally online Thursday — with the Texas Republican saying the spat made him feel like he was a kid in the middle of a divorce. 'I was sitting in the Oval as this unfolded. Trump was pissed. He was venting,' the Republican senator revealed on his podcast 'Verdict with Ted Cruz' Friday. 'I was sitting there, and the tweets were coming…. Elon was saying some really harsh things.' The SpaceX and Tesla billionaire went on a multi-day social media offensive against Trump, panning the president's 'big, beautiful' reconciliation bill 'disgusting' and urging Congress to kill it. 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,' Musk fumed after Trump spoke out about the simmering feud. Cruz, who's friends with both former bros, called their very public break-up this week 'incredibly painful.' 'These are two men whom I know very well, they're both good friends of mine,' he said. 3 President Trump and Tesla billionaire Elon Musk came to blows on social media this week, ending their bromance. AFP via Getty Images 'I feel like the kids of a bitter divorce where you're just saying, 'I really wish mommy and daddy would stop screaming.'' 3 Ted Cruz talked about the break-up this Friday on his podcast 'Verdict with Ted Cruz.' Verdict with Ted Cruz/Facebook Trump and Musk's tiff escalated later in the week — with Trump threatening to cancel billions of dollars in government contracts to Musk's companies and Musk claiming Trump was holding out on making the Jeffrey Epstein files public because he's in them. 3 Trump and Musk's tiff escalated later in the week. Getty Images 'It just went from zero to 11 instantaneously,' said Cruz. 'These are two alpha males who are pissed off. And unfortunately, they're unloading on each other … They're angry, it's not complicated.' Cruz and his co-host commented that they thought both men are right — Trump's big beautiful budget bill has to get passed but the government has to tackle the deficit more as Musk argued. 'Unfortunately, Elon is working under the assumption that Congress actually wants to do the job and save our country,' said podcast co-host Ben Ferguson. 'And I think Trump is working under the reality that there's a lot of people in Congress that actually aren't looking out for the American people.' Musk on Saturday deleted his post about the Epstein files in a sign he was ready to throw in the towel. But Trump made it clear he wasn't interested in kissing and making up anytime soon. 'I have no intention of speaking to him,' he told NBC News.

Conservative Host Scorched For Setting The Bar 'Extremely Low' On Trump
Right-wing radio host Ben Ferguson on Thursday questioned why Donald Trump wasn't getting enough 'credit' for his standard grade response to Pope Leo XIV becoming leader of the Roman Catholic Church. The president, in remarks outside the White House, called it a 'great honor' for the pontiff to be the first ever from the United States and later took to his Truth Social platform to offer his congratulations. 'I think that's probably maybe a little different than what he would have said in 2016,' said Ferguson — co-host of the 'Verdict' podcast with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) — of the response in a CNN panel discussion on the new pope. 'You look at what he said, saying, 'This is a great day.' He actually took politics out of it as the president of the United States of America, which most people are wanting him to get involved politically.' Trump notably clashed with Pope Francis a number of times prior to his death, which he reacted to with a brief message on Truth Social. Catholic leaders later slammed the president for sharing an AI-generated image of himself as the pope. Bakari Sellers, a former South Carolina state representative, swiftly hit back at Ferguson's take. 'That bar is extremely low and I think by setting the bar —,' Sellers said. 'But can you give a little credit?' Ferguson interjected. 'No,' Sellers replied. 'So, in other words, even when Donald Trump does something right on the pope, you're now saying, 'I'm still going to criticize him?'' Ferguson replied. 'No, because, I mean, this is not an issue of politics. This is an issue of things like love and empathy and truth,' Sellers added. 'Then why don't show some of that toward the president when he gets it right on a nonpartisan issue of the pope?' Ferguson said. 'Because I'm not going to simply give you credit for coming out and doing something that you're supposed to do,' Sellers stressed. Chicago's WGN Radio adds Ted Cruz to lineup
WGN-AM Radio announced it is bringing U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz to the Chicago airwaves. The big picture: Adding the Texas Republican to the WGN lineup signals the station's shift to be a more conservative outlet. Driving the news: The "Verdict with Ted Cruz" will begin airing Sunday on WGN. The one-hour program will be from 8-9pm. Between the lines: WGN was bought by Texas-based Nexstar in 2019 and has drastically changed its lineup since then. The famously "live and local" AM station once produced local content only, but has since started syndicating programs at night and during weekends. Although WGN programming skewed to the right politically, it once prided itself on being politically centered. Since Nexstar took over, the station has brought in more syndicated conservative programming. State of play: WGN-AM has had a strong start to 2025, shooting back up into the top five in the ratings. Yes, but: The addition of Cruz to the lineup is the first time they've broadcast programming hosted by a deeply polarizing politician. Reality check: WGN does not just serve Chicago. Its 50,000-watt signal reaches several states and even Canada. The intrigue: Nexstar Media Group has contributed to Cruz's Senate campaigns over the years. The company has contributed to several federal campaigns on both sides of the aisle.

Heartbreak for Cameron Saaiman as SA star suffers first-round knockout at UFC fight night
A dejected Cameron Saaiman reflects after his first-round defeat at UFC Fight Night: Machado Garry vs Prates in Kansas City. Photo: AFP Image: AFP The disappointment on his face was glaringly obvious as South Africa's UFC bantamweight athlete Cameron Saaiman lined up in the centre of the Octagon while world-renowned UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer officially concluded the fight. Competing at UFC Fight Night: Machado Garry vs Prates at the T-Mobile Centre in Kansas City, Saaiman suffered a first-round knockout against UFC debutant Malcolm Wellmaker (USA) on the preliminary card of the show in Missouri, USA. Both bantamweights took a moment to make plenty of reads and measure their ranges before engaging early in the first round. Malcolm Wellmaker lands a huge KO with a PERFECT shot on Cameron Saaiman. Welcome to the UFC! 🔥#UFCKansasCity — Verdict (@VerdictMMA) April 26, 2025 South Africa's Saaiman stayed light on his feet on the outside with good foot movement, before targeting the legs of Wellmaker, who kept moving forward, calm and composed. As Wellmaker closed the distance between the two fighters, it was Saaiman who landed the first body shot with a left straight. Wellmaker, with the superior reach, unleashed a quick combination. Still, Saaiman showcased some beautiful head movement and slips that would have been very beneficial later on, had he maintained that sharpness, as Wellmaker is known for his extreme power. It was clear that Saaiman was aware of Wellmaker's plan to use his boxing and thus continued attacking the American's lead leg to try to neutralise his knockout ability. As the athletes moved towards the side of the cage, with Wellmaker controlling the space inside the Octagon, Wellmaker attacked Saaiman's body with a straight jab, which was countered by another lead leg attack from Saaiman. As the distance further closed, Wellmaker attempted to land another powerful hook to the body.

Nvidia warns of $5.5bn writedown as US tightens export curbs
The Trump administration's new export restrictions on Nvidia's H20 chip to China could cost the company billions of dollars and severely impact a product line created specifically to comply with earlier US restrictions. On 9 April 2025, the US government informed Nvidia that it would require a license to export H20 chips to China. On 14 April, the government further informed the company that the license requirement will be in effect 'for indefinite future.' The government also told the company that the new license requirement addresses the risk that 'the covered products may be used in, or diverted to, a supercomputer in China,' Nvidia said in a filing. Nvidia warned it will report about $5.5bn in writedowns during the first quarter 2026 that ends on 27 April 2025, linked to inventory and commitments for the H20 chip. The company developed the H20 chip in response to 2023 restrictions that targeted another China-specific processor, the H800, which was introduced after earlier export controls. While the H20 is intentionally less powerful and doesn't match Nvidia's flagship chips in training AI models, it remains capable of supporting AI software and services. It is suitable for the inference phase—where AI systems analyse data, recognise patterns, and make decisions, reported Bloomberg. The decision to curb H20 exports comes amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Beijing over technology. The US government has taken a progressively aggressive stance on restricting China's access to semiconductors and chipmaking tools, citing national security concerns. Since October 2022, US officials have widened the scope of bans to include high-bandwidth memory chips and other components critical for AI applications. Earlier in April 2025, Nvidia announced plans to manufacture up to $500bn of AI supercomputers within the US over the next four years. The initiative is said to mark the first time the company's AI infrastructure will be fully produced in the US, as it collaborates with global manufacturing partners to establish and operate advanced production facilities.
