Your Nespresso machine might have a secret 'Expert Mode' setting — here's how it works
Nespresso's Vertuo line offers a huge range of drink sizes at the touch of a button. Its smart tech automatically adjusts dispensing time depending on your pod of choice, extracting the ideal amount of coffee for the size and roast of your Nespresso capsule automatically. But you might wish you could override that smart tech from time to time. Perhaps you have some XL pods lying around, but prefer espresso-based drinks. Or maybe you just discovered a new favorite Nespresso flavor, but it's not available in your go-to drink size. It's a hidden feature, but your Nespresso machine may well allow you to override its pre-set dosing, and it couldn't be easier to use. The setting is called "Expert Mode", and it's available on a selection of Vertuo machines. Here's how it works. If you have a Nespresso Original machine, the answer is no. These machines will only brew a single or double shot as standard, but some do allow you to change the dose size depending on your preferences. But if you have a Nespresso Vertuo machine, your machine probably will work with Expert Mode. Expert Mode is available on the following machines: The only Vertuo machine it won't work on is the Nespresso Vertuo Plus (pictured above), which is the brand's earliest iteration of its Vertuo line, and doesn't come with the more up-to-date settings. If you have a compatible machine, all you need to do to activate Expert Mode is allow the machine to heat up, and then double-press the brew button. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. When you do this, the button should flash blue, which indicates that you've successfully switched the setting on. From there, your machine will brew a more concentrated shot of your pod automatically. This is especially ideal for the summer months, where you may want to enjoy an espresso-based iced coffee but find yourself stuck with oversized pods that brew a long, hot mug of Joe. It also brews a more concentrated drink by default, which is a win for those who need a strong coffee to kickstart their morning. The size of the drink your machine will brew in Expert Mode is still dependent on the size of the pod you've used. According to Nespresso, the setting is designed for those who want to pair their favorite blends with milk-based drinks like latte or cappuccinos. That means it will brew a smaller shot of coffee in order to leave room in your mug for some steamed milk. The pod will brew as follows: Did you know about this extra Nespresso feature? Save up to $126 on Nespresso machines with these awesome Prime Day deals, starting from just $99
With Prime Day just one day away, we're tracking the best Prime Day 2025 deals live. I am obsessed with coffee (I'm an ex-barista and I spend half of my life testing and reviewing coffee makers), so I knew I had to find some of the best Nespresso machien deals. I've rounded up 8 of my favorite machines, including our favorite 5-star Nespresso Lattissima. Our Homes Managing Editor Millie praised everything about this perfect coffee maker, including its fantastic milk steaming and huge range of drinks options. Right now it's discounted by a massive $126 — so there's no better time to get the best Nespresso coffee maker out there. These deals start from just $99 — the entry-level and gorgeous limited edition pistachio Nespresso Vertuo Pop+ — and the might just get even lower for Prime Day 2025. Anything could happen. The most affordable Nespresso machine on this list, the Vertuo Pop+ is also a sight to behold. I adore the pistachio green and cream color scheme; this would look so cute on my kitchen countertop. It's 8 inches wide, so a little larger than the Next machines below, but it looks too cute to pass up. This machine is the cheapest way to get Nespresso coffee — and the color is limited edition. The Vertuo Next by Breville is probably the best Nespresso machine for small spaces. It's just 5.5. inches wide, much smaller than other Nespresso machines. While the water tank is a little small at 37 ounces, it's a worthy sacrifice for a machine this compact. While this machine is effectively identical to the Breville Vertuo Next above, the De'Longhi offering comes in this beautiful jade green shade. It's just 5.5 inches wide, making it perfect for small spaces, and looks a treat thanks to the green finish. Like the De'Longhi-made Nespresso machines, the VertuoPlus by Breville uses "Centrifusion" technology. This tech spins the coffee pods up to 7,000RPM, which creates thick crema and a stronger coffee flavor. This machine also has a 60-ounce water tank, which is enough for tons of drinks. The Vertuo Plus can make four drinks: espresso, double espresso, gran lungo, and coffee. As with the pricier Nespresso De'Longhi machines below, the entry-level Vertuo has "Centrifusion" technology. This model doesn't come with a milk frother, but it still has the same coffee brewing tech of pricier machines. It also has a huge waste bin — it can hold up to 13 capsules! Like other De'Longhi-made Nespresso machines, the Vertuo Plus has "Centrifusion" technology, which rotates the coffee pod at 7,000RPM for thick crema. This machine automatically alters water, temperature, and spin speed based on each individual pod. Each Vertuo pod has a barcode that the Vertuo Plus reads and adapts its brewing tech for. This is a really unique feature that sets the Vertuo Plus apart from the rest. This also comes with the Nespresso Aeroccino, so you're technically getting another product for free. The Vertuo Plus and Vertuo Plus Deluxe are almost identical. The main difference is that the Deluxe (this one) has a larger water tank, so would be better for bigger families, or those who drink more coffee than average. Or those who simply want to refill the water tank as little as possible. We awarded the Lattissima a perfect 5-stars in our review last year. The most premium offering on this list, the Vertuo Lattissima by De'Longhi is discounted by $126 right now. What makes it so premium? The Lattissima has a built-in milk system. This milk system froths and heats milk for you, so you don't need to get a separate milk frother or microwave your milk. The milk carafe can even be stored in the fridge between uses. This is by far the best option for serious coffee lovers who don't want to deal with the hassle of an espresso machine.

‘I found a way to copy Starbucks' viral iced pistachio latte recipe for under £1 at home'
I made my own version of Starbucks' iced pistachio latte (Image: Laura Mulley) Ever since Dubai chocolate hit our social media feeds, we've been going crazy for all things pistachio – and retailer have been keeping up, launching everything from ice cream to Easter eggs flavoured with the green nut. This includes Starbucks, who launched a new pistachio latte and ice latte recipe at the beginning of this year. It's since come of the menu, but I've found a way to recreate if yourself – and for a whole lot less money. If you have a Nespresso machine, you'll want to try the brand's new limited-edition Pistachio Vanilla Flavour Over Ice original and Vertuo pods, which gives a sweet, moreish twist to your usual coffee. The first step was to spread a little pistachio paste around my Nespresso tumbler; I bought this one from Waitrose, and it was hard to resist eating it by the spoonful out of the jar. It works out at about £1 a drink (Image: Laura Mulley) Next up was lots of ice and a splash of oat milk (I bulk buy this one from Amazon), but using the Aeroccino to froth up some more.
