Mirabito collecting donations for Folds of Honor
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local convenience store chain is supporting the families of those who sacrificed for their country. Mirabito has announced that Folds of Honor will be the recipient of its Mirabito Cares Round Up campaign beginning on Monday and running through July 6. Folds of Honor is a nonprofit that provides scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen or disabled military members or first responders. Customers will be asked to round their purchases up to the nearest dollar, and then Mirabito will make an additional contribution of its own. Guthrie Lourdes Health and Fitness turns three with free wellness event
JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local gym is celebrating three years of wellness on Saturday. Guthrie Lourdes Health and Fitness is turning three. To commemorate the occasion, the gym is offering a free day of fitness and fun to the community. Those in attendance will be able to access the facility and participate in group classes. There will also be health screening and wellness information provided by Guthrie Lourdes Hospital. Guests can also enjoy self-care stations, healthy refreshments, demonstrations, a silent auction, and more. Guthrie Lourdes Health and Fitness is home to a large gym with a wide variety of fitness equipment as well as group fitness classes and several amenities including three pools, a hot tub, and men's and women's saunas. There is also childcare. General Manager Mark Powell says the event is perfect for non-members to come and check the facility out. 'It's really good for the community who has not been here yet to come and see what we're all about and have a free tour and take part in all of the classes that we have going on and all of the programs, especially for the kids and families,' said Powell. Main Street Safety Improvement and Paving Project begins
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A project to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists along a busy Binghamton thoroughfare is officially underway. The Main Street Safety Improvement and Paving Project began this week. The $6.2 million construction project will upgrade intersections and pavement conditions from Front Street to Floral Avenue. Work includes new curbs, high-visibility crosswalks, ADA-accessible curb ramps, as well as pedestrian crossing and traffic signals at multiple intersections. Main Street will also be paved during the project. According to Mayor Jared Kraham, the safety improvements are expected to reduce traffic accidents by 25 percent. Initial sections will be completed in the fall, and final work is expected to be done next summer. East Meredith man indicted on 8 counts of child sex abuse
DELHI, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – An East Meredith man is facing an eight-count indictment of felony sexual abuse of a child on multiple occasions in 2024, Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced Friday. 20-year-old Mario A. Sierra, of East Meredith, is being accused of committing multiple sexual acts with a person under 15 years old in July of 2024 in both Otsego County and Delaware County. Two counts of felony rape in the second degree and one count of criminal sexual act in the second degree allege Sierra committed sexual acts on a child in the City of Oneonta in July 2024. The other five counts, four being rape in the second degree and one count of criminal sexual act, allege Sierra committed sexual acts against a child in the Town of Meredith in July 2024. Sierra appeared in Delaware County Court on Friday, May 23, for arraignment and was set bail of $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond or $100,000 partially secured bond. Sierra was taken into the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility, in lieu of bail.
