Victoria Justice recalls receiving DEATH THREATS over tense exchange with Ariana Grande

Victoria Justice has spoken out about the immense backlash she received over a tense exchange involving Ariana Grande. The now-viral video from 2010 features a teen Victoria, who was starring in the Nickelodeon series Victorious, being interviewed outdoors alongside her cast members, which included Ariana Grande, Liz Gillies and Daniella Monet. The interviewer asked the girls which cast member sings the most outside of filming before they largely agreed Ariana did. However, Victoria - who played lead character Tori Vega - interjected with: 'I think we ALL sing,' while crossing her arms. The clip had fans speculating there was a lot of tension between Ariana and Victoria, with some guessing they were not friends. Victoria, now 32, went on to address it in a post online in 2017, shutting it down by writing: 'I think we ALL have better things to do than dredging up seven-year-old non-existent drama. That said, I'm kind of excited to finally be a meme.' But she was forced to further shut down rumors of on-set feuds in a 2023 interview with E! News. 'This whole narrative that was created of me being jealous of [Ariana] and us not being friends,' she said. She continued: 'I feel like it's this constant story of the media and people wanting to put people against each other and it's just... so not even relevant right now.' Victoria said the rumors were 'so dumb,' adding: 'Ten years later. How is this even a story? This is so stupid.' 'I don't even need to talk about this anymore, but Ariana texted me and we both were like, "This is so stupid,"' she explained. 'I think the biggest rumor is this whole narrative that was created of like me being jealous of her and of us not being friends.' The actress bought it up the viral moment again in a recent interview on Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals, admitting there was a lot of 'hate' towards her which she found difficult. Victoria noted that it was 'very sweet' when people have expressed regret over the meme and rumors that came with it, especially since she'd dealt with a lot of hate for a long time. 'There was a time for so long on the internet where I felt like people hated me,' she admitted to host Joel. 'It can really be a ruthless place. And mob mentality is such a real thing,' she added. 'First of all, it's factual. We did all sing, okay? What do you want from me?! Speaking the facts,' she quipped. However, the actress and singer admitted the backlash from the viral meme was 'wild.' 'I got like death threats,' she admitted. 'I felt bad for my mom because she was looking at all the stuff online and she was like she was freaking out.' In 2024, the former child actress spoke to Marie Claire about disgraced TV producer Dan Schneider, and her working experience as a child and her reaction to the docuseries, Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV. While she sees her time at Nickelodeon positively, she did highlight some of the negatives while discussing Quiet On Set with the publication. 'Something that was very evident in the documentary is that Dan had a very large ego, and sometimes that ego clouded his better judgment and affected the way he treated people, and there were times I felt like I was being treated unfairly,' she explained. Many of those interviewed in the docuseries had accused Schneider of sneaking sexual overtones and double entendres into children's programming but the actress said that was not her personal experience but did admit there were certain moments that 'were in poor taste.' After the release of the docuseries Schneider had addressed some of the allegations and did admit that he owes apologies to many people. Victoria told writer of the piece Jazmine Hughes: 'I would say I'm definitely one of the people on that list.' The actress said that she has rarely been in contact with the former producer since she left the children's network aside from an occasional birthday text. She explained: 'I'm not condoning any of his behavior. At the end of the day, my relationship with Dan is a very complex one: I met him when I was 12 years old, and he's the person that gave me this big break. 'He completely changed my life. Most likely I wouldn't be here where I am today if it weren't for him, and for him seeing something in me. For that I will always be grateful.' Victoria seemingly still has a soft spot for the embattled producer especially after seeing his apology. She said: 'After watching his apology, I think he recognizes that he did a lot of things wrong, and I think if he could step back into a time machine, he would do a lot of things differently.'

Victoria Justice Got Death Threats Over Ariana Grande Meme

I think we've ALL seen that famous Victoria Justice meme that went viral in 2017. The video in question features then-teenage Victoria being interviewed outdoors with her fellow Victorious cast members, including Ariana Grande, Liz Gillies, and Daniella Monet. When the group were asked which cast member sings the most outside of filming, and largely agreed that it was Ariana, Victoria — who played leading character Tori Vega on the hit Nickelodeon series — interjected and said, 'I think we ALL sing.' The clip seemingly sparked a load of tension between Ariana and Victoria, with the pair appearing to shade each other over the years. However, Victoria shut down the long-running feud rumors during a 2023 interview. Fast forward to today, and Victoria has reflected on the viral moment once again during a new appearance on Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals. While reacting to online praise, Victoria noted that it was 'very nice' to see people being kind to her because for so long, she'd dealt with a lot of hate. 'There was a time for so long on the internet where I felt like people hated me,' she said. 'It can really be a ruthless place. And mob mentality is such a real thing.' When asked what she thought prompted the 'hate train,' Victoria mentioned the viral meme. Explaining that she was only '16 or 17' when the video was filmed, Victoria recalled feeling pretty confused by all the immense hate. 'First of all, it's factual. We did all sing, OK? What do you want from me?! Speaking the facts,' she said. 'And then it's like I got all this hate, SO much hate,' she said. 'I'm like, 'What did I do? What did I do?' I'm sitting here living my life, just trying to work, live. It was wild.' Victoria went on to recall receiving death threats over the entire thing. 'I got so much hate, dude. I got death threats,' she said. "I felt bad for my mom, 'cause she was looking at all this stuff online and she was freaking out." 'It really took on a life of its own and became a thing,' she said, before adding: 'Now I think it's funny. I'm in on the joke. I even say it to myself all the time…It was definitely a thing where it was like, the internet hates Victoria Justice right now.' You can watch Victoria's full appearance on Last Meals right here.

Victoria Justice received 'death threats"' over a viral meme with Ariana Grande: 'We did all sing!'

Victoria Justice received "death threats" over a viral meme. The 32-year-old actress had the starring role in the musical series 'Victorious', but it was her co-star Ariana Grande who went onto an incredibly successful pop career after the Nickelodeon sitcom ended, and when an old interview of Victoria insisting that she and her castmates "all sing" went viral, she "got so much hate" at a time she was just trying to live her own life. Speaking on the YouTube series 'Mythical Kitchen', she said: "There was a time for so long on the Internet where I felt like people hated me. "There was that whole meme thing from when I was 16 or 17. First of all, it was factual, we did all sing! What do you want from me? I am speaking the facts! "I don't even know how many years later it was when that [went viral] and I got so much hate. I was just trying to work, live. I don't know. It was wild. I got so much hate, and death threats. I felt so bad for my mom, she was freaking out." Nowadays, the former 'Zoey 101' star doesn't mind it at all because she feels as if she is "in on the joke" but insisted that there was a time that she felt "hated" by those online. "I'm always like 'Oh, whatever!' People are gonna say what they're gonna say. It took on a life of its own and became a thing. And now it's funny, I don't care I'm in on the joke. I even say it myself, I don't care, whatever. "But it was definitely a thing where it was like 'the internet hates Victoria Justice right now'." Victoria will next be seen in the upcoming comedy crime film 'California King', but explained that the "pressure" she felt as a child star to carry a brand has never really left her. She said: "I've loved it. It's so much fun. A part of that kind of sticks with you, growing up, knowing that you're carrying a huge brand on your back. Knowing that you are being viewed as a role model to a lot of young people and being on the cover of teen magazines and whatnot, and that sort of thing, having that sort of pressure and wanting to live up those standards an carry all that well never leaves you. Sometimes I curse and I'm like 'Is that okay...?' "Not really though, I feel like it's been a natural progression as well. I ended the show when I was 20, and so I was very much an adult at that point and ready to move on and do adult things."

Victoria Justice revisits online 'death threats'

Victoria Justice has revisited the online "death threats" she received as a former Disney star. The former Victorious star reflected on "a time... where I felt like people hated me" in a new interview for Mythical Kitchen's YouTube series, My Last Meal. "There was a time for so long on the Internet where I felt like people hated me," Victoria, 32, told host Josh Scherer. "It was a thing. It (the internet) can really be a ruthless place and, like, mob mentality is such a real thing." The problems began, Victoria recalled, when a video of her from her teen years resurfaced when she "was way into my 20s" and went viral. The video featured Victoria and her Victorious co-stars talking about how Ariana Grande often sang on the set of the show, with Victoria then heard declaring, "I think we all sing." "I think the media outlet that put it out, put this whole spin on it," the entertainer reflected this week. "It must have been a really slow news day for them because I swear to God, I... suddenly got all this hate and I'm like, What did I do!?" Victoria added she was worried for her life at one point and her mother was "freaking out" about the sudden influx of online hate. "I go so much hate," she said. "I got death threats."
