Rishi Kapoor's former heroine turned down lead roles in Baazigar, Roja, 1942 A Love Story; bounced back after getting married at 17

Actor Rukhsar Rehman, who made her debut as a teenager in 1992, quit the film business after getting married at the age of 17. Because her family had decided that she would no longer take on more work, she had to turn down offers to star in movies that went on to become classics. In an interview, Rukhsar said that she missed out on the opportunity to work with Mani Ratnam in Roja, with Vidhu Vinod Chopra in 1942: A Love Story, and opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the film Baazigar. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Rukhsar reflected on the two innings of her career – she rejoined the film industry in 2005 – and admitted that she was particularly disappointed about losing out on a few opportunities. She also declined to shed more light on why her father didn't allow her to continue working after marriage, and said that since he isn't around to offer his side of the story, it would be unfair to speak on his behalf. I was offered Shilpa Shetty's role in Baazigar. But my father had decided that acting was over, and we were moving back to our home town in UP. He came from a different world; he was an IAS officer… The film industry gave him a culture shock. It had nothing to do with my safety; he just couldn't handle it.' She said that while she never felt like her world had crumbled, but she certainly regretted certain missed opportunities, such as working with Vidhu Vinod Chopra in a movie that went on to become a classic of Hindi cinema. 'I was offered Manisha Koirala's role, but she did a fabulous job. It's an amazing film,' Rukhsar said. She said that she never voiced her dissatisfaction to her father, who passed away a decade ago. She admitted that she wanted to ask him why she was pulled out of the business, but she never got around to it. 'He was an intimidating man,' she said. Asked about Roja, she said, 'My first thought after watching the movie was, 'I could've seen snowfall for the first time'.' Rukhsar said that most of these discussions were conducted between the producers and her dad, and that they lived in a hotel during the entire time that she was in Mumbai. She admitted that her career would be in a different place had she done all these movies.

'Will Come Naked...': Nana Patekar Begged Amol Palekar After Rejection For Hitting A Director

Last Updated: Nana Patekar's off-screen reputation nearly closed doors with Amol Palekar after a rumoured altercation with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Long before Nana Patekar became known for his intense screen presence, his off-screen reputation nearly closed doors for him. In the late 1980s, fresh off the success of Parinda, Nana found himself in a difficult spot and not because of his acting chops, but because of what happened behind the scenes. Rumours of a physical altercation with Parinda director Vidhu Vinod Chopra had spread, and that image stuck. So when Amol Palekar was casting for Thodasa Roomani Ho Jayen in 1990, he didn't see Nana fitting into the gentle, poetic role at the heart of his film. 'I didn't reject him because of his short temper," Amol said in an interview with The Lallantop. 'That character was far away from being a short temper guy, in fact, that character had a poetic heart, he was very soft. I told Nana, 'You don't have softness in your whole personality and you won't be able to do it.'" But Nana wasn't one to give up easily. Rather than reacting with more heat, he approached Amol with humility and persistence. 'He kept pursuing me," Palekar recalled. 'This was the time when Parinda was a hit and his gritty character in the film was a hit, he was seen as the angry young man. At that time, people were also talking about how Nana beat up Vidhu Vinod Chopra during Parinda shoot. There was physical fight between them." Despite the noise around him, Nana showed he was willing to strip himself of that aggressive image to prove his range as an actor. Amol added, 'So, it is obvious that he didn't come close to my character. But he took it as a challenge and came to me for 10 days and did rehearsals with me. He told me, 'I will come to you naked, you shape me how you want.' During those 10 days of rehearsals he changed completely, his personality changed completely. And during the whole shoot we didn't even have an argument, forget about getting into a fight." Vidhu Vinod Chopra once opened up about a heated confrontation with Nana Patekar during the making of Parinda. Speaking on the reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, the filmmaker recalled how a disagreement on set unexpectedly spiralled into a physical altercation. He had shared, 'There's a scene in the film where Nana asks if he has tears in his eyes after his wife has died… We'd been shooting all day, and it was late in the evening. Nana declared that he was too tired to continue and that he was going home. I told him, 'Sure, you pay for the overheads then'. He started swearing at me, I swore back, and in the scuffle, I tore his kurta. The cops on set said, 'We're here to protect you, and you're fighting among yourselves.'" First Published:

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani's PK is regarded as one of Bollywood's most acclaimed films. The satirical drama starred Aamir as an alien and explored the complexities of religion, caste, and social norms in India. Interestingly, a few years before PK hit the screens, Umesh Shukla's OMG, starring Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar, explored striking similar themes. The film was an adaptation of the popular Gujarati play Kanji Virudh Kanji. Paresh Rawal recently shared an intriguing detail that Rajkumar Hirani and his co-writer Abhijiat Joshi were regular attendees of the play around the time PK was being conceptualised. 'It was around the time PK was happening. Saumya Joshi, the brilliant Gujarati writer, would often be accompanied by his brother Abhijat and Raju Hirani. They attended almost every show,' shared Paresh. He stated that the team used to update the play with fresh dialogues and changes, prompting the PK writers to stay updated, 'Any new dialogue, they would come and check. Both are very good people, despite staying with Vidhu Vinod Chopra for so long.' Paresh Rawal on his disagreements with Munna Bhai MBBS's producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra Paresh didn't hesitate when discussing about his strained equation with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. 'He started ignoring the people he began his career with after achieving success.' Paresh said. The actor also revealed that he was almost cast as Dr. Asthana, the role later portrayed by Boman Irani in Munna Bhai MBBS. 'I was supposed to do Munna Bhai. We were discussing remuneration. In my mind, I wanted ₹15 lakh, and coincidentally, Vidhu offered exactly that. But the way he said, 'I'll give you ₹15 lakh' — with arrogance — irked me. So, out of principle, I demanded ₹50 lakh and refused to back down,' he revealed. Paresh added, 'It was never about the money — it was about the approach. Artistes are built differently. If you place a hand on my shoulder and ask nicely, I would do a film even for ₹1. But if you throw attitude, I won't work even for crores.' Interestingly, Paresh later portrayed the similar role in Shankar Dada MBBS , the Telugu remake starring Chiranjeevi. Also, despite the past disaggrement, he went on to collaborate with Vidhu Vinod Chopra again in Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
