3 lakh rooftop solar connections by end of June
Vijayawada: The chief secretary K Vijayanand has directed the authorities of power distribution companies and non-conventional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (NREDCAP) to collectively achieve the target of providing three lakh rooftop solar connections by the end of June. He said that each discom is assigned with a target of 75,000 connections, while NREDCAP will also execute 75,000 connections. Vijayanand took stock of the progress of the rooftop solar connections targets and progress with the senior officials here on Thursday. He instructed that a detailed action plan be submitted immediately for effective monitoring of the progress. He said that he would review the progress on a weekly basis and emphasised the importance of creating widespread public awareness about the PM Surya Ghar, Muft Bijli Yojana. He advised officials to take up targeted outreach activities. The chief secretary said that the state is leading India's clean energy transition by actively promoting rooftop solar installations. He said that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu set an ambitious target of installing 20 lakh rooftop solar units by the end of 2025 and it should be achieved at any cost. He also stressed the need to widely publicise PM Surya Ghar among SC and ST beneficiaries as setting up two-kilowatt rooftop units will be entirely free for them as per the scheme. He also urged to create awareness among Backward Class (BC) households, as govt is offering a total subsidy of 80,000, comprising 60,000 from the Centre and an additional 20,000 from state govt towards the total rooftop solar installation cost of 1.2 lakh under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. He directed that one model village should be developed in each district making a total of 26 villages statewide as demonstration sites for effective implementation of the scheme. He also stressed the need for discoms and NREDCAP to coordinate with banks to establish formal tie-ups specifically for the execution of these model villages. Vijayanand said that state received about 12.1 lakh registrations on the PM Surya Ghar portal. APEPDCL received 85,711applications and APCPDCL recorded 5.3 lakh registrations while APSPDCL registered 5.9 lakh applications. He asked the discoms CMDs to put in all-out efforts to achieve the set PM Surya Ghar targets before the scheduled timelines, emphasising the importance of timely and efficient execution. The chief secretary said that around 5.9 lakh SC/ST households have been identified for coverage under this initiative, with a projected rooftop solar capacity of 1,174 MWp and an expected annual power generation of 1,743 million units. "Each eligible household will be provided with a 2 kWp rooftop solar system, which is to be commissioned within six months from the issuance of the letter of award (LOA). The systems will also be maintained at no cost to the beneficiaries for a period of five years", he added. Prudhvi Tej, CMD/APEPDCL, K Santosha Rao, CMD/APSPDCL, and P Pulla Reddy CMD/APCPDCL were present at the review meeting.

Huge response to ‘Police Yogandhra' in Vijayawada
VIJAYAWADA: The NTR district police organised a 'Police Yogandhra' event on Thursday, drawing more than 6,000 participants, including personnel from various wings of the commissionerate, at the Yoga Street (BRTS Road). Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, Special Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) MT Krishna Babu, NTR District Commissioner of Police (CP) SV Rajasekhar Babu, and NTR Collector G Lakshmisha attended as chief guests and urged the public to make yoga part of their daily routine. The event was conducted in association with the NTR Ayush Department and the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). Addressing participants, Vijayanand said the State government has launched the month-long Yogandhra-2025 campaign, from May 21 to June 21, to make yoga a part of household activity. A mega event involving five lakh people is planned from RK Beach to Bhogapuram in Visakhapatnam district, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend as the chief guest on the International Yoga Day. 'Yoga is a great gift India has offered to the world. We aim to build a healthy and happy society. YogAndhra programs will be held in every village and town until June 21 to mark International Yoga Day. Our goal is to teach yoga to at least two crore people by then,' said Vijayanand. He added that 1.25 lakh yoga trainers have registered across the State, and the government is encouraging people to learn basic yoga asanas. CP Rajasekhar Babu said the event was intended to raise awareness of yoga's benefits for both physical and mental health and to encourage regular practice. He expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of 'Police Yogandhra' event.

Govt. targets to install 20 lakh rooftop solar units this year and three lakh units by June-end, says A.P. Chief Secretary Vijayanand
Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary and Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand has said the State government has set an ambitious target of installing 20 lakh rooftop solar units this year. At a review meeting on Thursday, Mr. Vijayanand said the DISCOMs and NREDCAP had to collectively achieve the target of providing three lakh rooftop solar connections by the end of June 2025. 'Each DISCOM is assigned a target of 75,000 connections, while NREDCAP will also execute 75,000 connections. An action plan should be submitted immediately, and the progress will be reviewed every week,' he said. Stressing the need for wide publicity to the PM Surya Ghar scheme among the SC and ST beneficiaries, he said setting up a 2-kilowatt rooftop unit would be entirely free for them. He also sought that awareness be created about the scheme among the Backward Classes (BC) households. Model village 'The government is providing a total subsidy of ₹80,000 — a sum of ₹60,000 from the Central Government and ₹20,000 from the State government — towards installation of rooftop solar unit costing ₹1.20 lakh under the PM Surya Ghar scheme,' Mr. Vijayanand said. Further, he directed that one model village be developed in each district as demonstration sites for effective implementation of the scheme. Police Yogandhra programme held in Vijayawada
On the occasion of Yogandhra 2025, a vibrant Police Yogandhra program took place at the BRTS Yoga Street in Vijayawada. The event saw participation from State Government Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, along with various IAS and IPS officers, who engaged in yoga asanas to promote the initiative. Speaking at the event, Vijayanand remarked that yoga serves as a divine medicine that harmonises the mind and body while enriching one's overall well-being. He emphasised the collective aspiration to integrate yoga into everyday life, highlighting that yoga programmes would be conducted across all 26 districts, each featuring a unique theme to foster enthusiasm and community spirit. The initiative aims to include all sectors of society—from farmers and students to workers—into the Yoga Andhra movement. Officials announced plans for awareness and training programmes to introduce at least two crore individuals in the state to yoga, adhering to a 45-minute simple yoga common protocol developed by experts. In a move to promote yoga's benefits, special programmes are set to take place in approximately 100 tourist destinations throughout the state. Additionally, every village and town will host Yoga Andhra events, with four tourist locations in each district designated to showcase the advantages of yoga. Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand also confirmed that celebrations for International Yoga Day will be held in Visakhapatnam on June 21. The Police Yogandhra programme in Vijayawada witnessed participation from around five thousand police officers, staff, and yoga enthusiasts. Among those in attendance were Special Chief Secretary (Health, Medical and Family Welfare) MT Krishnababu, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Veerapandian, CCLA, NTR District Special Officer G. Jayalakshmi, AYUSH Director K. Dinesh Kumar, NTR District Collector Dr. Lakshmi, and Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhara Babu.

Int'l fleet review in Visakhapatnam in February
Amaravati: An international fleet review will be held in Visakhapatnam in the third week of February next year under the auspices of the Indian Navy. Fleet review can be described as an international maritime exercise conducted to improve relations with the navies of different countries. In this regard, Visakhapatnam Eastern Naval Command Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena met with Chief Secretary K Vijayanand at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday and reviewed the upcoming international fleet review and the organisation of MILAN-2026. Speaking on this occasion, Vijayanand clarified that the State government will provide all necessary support and assistance to make the event a success. The organisation of the fleet review will not only benefit India internationally but also Andhra Pradesh in particular. He said that Visakhapatnam will get good recognition. Similarly, it will get international recognition in terms of tourism. The Chief Secretary said that since the President of India, the Prime Minister, and other dignitaries from various countries will be attending the Fleet Review, appropriate arrangements should be made accordingly. In the context of the Fleet Review, there is a need to take steps to beautify Visakhapatnam city in all respects, especially in terms of improving roads, beautification, and installation of electric lights, he advised the Visakhapatnam Collector, the VMRDA, the Visakhapatnam Port Trust, National Highway Authority of India, and Eastern Naval Command officials to take steps. Vijayanand advised Visakhapatnam District Collector Harendira Prasad to take appropriate steps to improve beautification and other infrastructure. Speaking at the meeting, Vice-Admiral Sameer Saxena said that the International Fleet Review and Milan-2026 events will be held in Visakhapatnam from February 14 to 24 under the auspices of the Indian Navy. He said that 145 countries have been invited to the Fleet Review and that the naval chiefs and other representatives of those countries will participate in large numbers. He assured the Chief Secretary that he would provide full cooperation on behalf of the state government. Principal Secretary GAD Mukesh Kumar Meena, Municipal Administration Principal Secretary S Suresh Kumar, International Fleet Review Commodore Aby Mathew, AP Naval Officer-in-Charge Commodore Rajnish Sharma, Civil Military Liaison Officer YK Krishna Rao participated in the meeting. Visakhapatnam District Collector Harendira Prasad and the officials of the VMRDA, the Port Trust and others also participated virtually.
