Several passenger trains cancelled as 24 goods wagons derail in Chandil
Jamshedpur: Railway traffic on the Chandil-Gunda Bihar section of the Adra railway division remained disrupted after 24 wagons of two freight trains derailed in the early hours of Saturday. No one was injured in the incident. Following the derailment, several passenger trains were cancelled, rerouted or short-terminated, leaving several travellers stranded. Efforts were on to provide alternative travel arrangements to the stranded passengers. The incident happened when 7 wagons of a freight train carrying iron ore, travelling from Tatanagar to Purulia on the down line, were derailed after it crossed the Chandil railway station. The derailed wagons tipped over on an empty freight train moving from the opposite direction on the adjacent up line. As a result, seven wagons of the empty freight train also derailed. Railway officials said the incident occurred at Pitki railway crossing, which is nearly 200 metres away from the Chandil railway station, in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district. "None of the crew members of the derailed trains were injured. Vikas Kumar, the senior divisional commercial manager of the Adra division of South Eastern Railways, said the tracks were heavily damaged after the derailments. "Track clearance, re-railing and repair work is being done on a war footing, and necessary equipment and heavy machines have been deployed at the site along with the necessary workforce. We are expecting partial resumption of the train service by midnight," he said. "A panel will be constituted to probe the incident," Kumar added. The abrupt halt in railway traffic stranded passengers at different stations. Railways said it had made alternative arrangements to transport the passengers to reach their respective destinations. Meanwhile, over a dozen passenger and express trains were cancelled on Saturday, while others were rerouted or short-terminated. In a statement, the South Eastern Railways said Howrah-Ranchi-Howrah Vande Bharat, Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat (20894), Tatanagar-Katihar-Tatanagar Express, Dhanbad-Tatanagar-Dhanbad Express and Tatanagar-Buxar Express (18183) were cancelled. Three MEMU trains, including Tata-Hatia and Tata-Asansol, were also cancelled for the day. Further, long-distance trains were diverted. While the Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Purushottam Express was diverted via the Hijli-Modinagar-Adra-Bhojudih-Gomoh route, the Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (which runs via Sambalpur) was diverted through the Jharsuguda-Rourkela-Nuagaon-Hatia-Bokaro-Rajabera route. Reacting to the train cancellations, Adityapur resident 52-year-old Amod Kumar, who was supposed be with his sister in Patna on Rakshabandhan day, regretted he couldn't make it to the Bihar capital. "I and my wife had booked tickets on Vande Bharat and were supposed to board the train from Tatanagar this morning but due to the derailment, the train was cancelled. I couldn't make it to my sister's house on the auspicious Rakhi day," rued DTP operator Kumar. Similarly, Manish Jaiswal, 46, who was supposed to board the Tatanagar-Dhanbad train to travel to the coal town to attend a function at his relative's house had to miss the get-together due to the cancellation of the train. Two class 12 dropouts held for cyber frauds using fake bank sites, apps
1 2 Lucknow: Lucknow Commissionerate Police, in collaboration with the Cyber Crime Cell, unearthed an inter-state racket involving two class 11 dropouts using fake websites and apps of bank portals to defraud credit card holders of lakhs of rupees. The accused, Rahul Lakheda (28) and Vikas Kumar (28), both residents of Delhi's Badarpur area, were arrested from a rented house in Capital's Om Nagar on Aug 6. Additional DCP, South zone, Vasanth Kumar, said that the duo commissioned fake websites and Android Package Kit (APKs) that closely resembled those of legitimate banks and credit card issuers. "While pretending to be customer care executives from well-known banks, the accused would randomly cold-call individuals. During these calls, they would offer lucrative services such as instant credit card limit enhancement, free or bonus insurance activation, urgent account verification, or card closure assistance," said Kumar. Once the victim was convinced, they were sent a link via SMS or WhatsApp, typically in the form of APK files. These apps mimicked the interface of legitimate banking portals. Victims were instructed to download the app and enter personal data related to credit cards. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Was Everyone's Dream Girl In 90's, This Is Her Now The Latest Article Undo Once the victim entered the data, the fraudsters gained access to their card. They would immediately initiate online purchases, mostly of mobile phones or electronics. To complete the transactions, they would trick the victim into sharing the One Time Password (OTP) sent by the bank—usually under the pretext of "final verification." The purchased phones were delivered to locations accessible by the gang. Once received, the devices were sold in Delhi's grey markets at slightly discounted rates—but with bills, making them harder to trace. This gave the racket a clean way to convert stolen digital funds into liquid cash. The gang repeated this con across various cities. The bust began with a complaint lodged by Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Lucknow's Sarojininagar area, on June 24. He reported that an unknown caller tricked him into sharing his PAN card number and OTP under the pretext of closing his credit card. A total of Rs 1,60,432 was stolen from his card via purchases made on Flipkart. An FIR was registered and the cyber cell used technical surveillance, call detail analysis and digital footprints to trace the accused to Delhi. Cops seized 25 mobile phones of various brands, 24 active SIM cards from different providers, one laptop, two routers, a printer, and Rs 41,250 in cash. In a bid to enhance commuter safety , the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC ) has begun testing an anti-drag system designed to prevent passengers or their belongings from getting trapped in train doors , according to a report by The Times of India (TOI).The move comes nearly 1.5 yeras after a 35-year-old woman died in December 2023 when her clothing got stuck in the door of a moving train.'Anti-drag is an advanced feature in the trains. If someone or something is stuck between gates, and if it senses pressure, it applies an emergency brake ,' DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar told one train has been retrofitted with the system and is undergoing trials. DMRC has said four more trains will be fitted with the same technology and will be tested over the next one to two years.'DMRC has retrofitted one train with the anti-drag feature, which is under testing. Four more trains are also being fitted with the same. These trains will undergo detailed analysis and feedback, and based on the overall performance, the mechanism will be further explored for remaining trains or lines which may require the provision of this feature,' a DMRC official told anti-drag system detects pressure between doors—even after they appear to have shut completely—and halts train movement if any obstruction, such as sarees, bag straps, or belts, is sensed. While the current threshold for door sensors is 15mm, TOI reports that it has now been reduced to 7mm. However, anything thinner than that still may not trigger the obstruction officials told TOI that the system will primarily be used on older lines, as newer corridors under Phase IV and lines like the Pink and Magenta already have platform screen doors (PSDs), which prevent such accidents. 'Something getting stuck between metro doors will not be an issue in the upcoming Phase IV corridors or the existing Pink and Magenta lines, as they have platform screen doors (PSDs). In the old lines, PSDs have been installed only on busy stations to control crowds,' the official parallel, announcements are being made inside metro coaches reminding passengers to be cautious with items like sarees, dupattas, and bags while boarding and alighting.
