Vinted sellers urged to be aware of buyer 'scam' to get money back and a free item

A vinted seller has taken to TikTok to give her top tips on how to not fall victim to this new scam. Vinted is a great app for people to use if they have unwanted clothing or other household items that they never use. While a great way to clear out your home of random clutter, this app also allows users to earn an extra bit of money at the same time. While some sellers have managed to make thousands on the app by selling their unwanted items, users should still be wary as there has been a rise in scammers on the app trying to find ways to get their money back after making a purchase. ‌ One vinted seller has issued a warning to other app users as the new reported scam sees buyers "lying" about receiving their parcels, reports the Express. ‌ In order to combat this, Chloe Chandler has shared to her 20,000 followers on TikTok her top tips while using the app to sell items, including one key packing method to use and how to collect evidence of what has been sent. In the video, Chloe said: "There's a new scam on Vinted where buyers claim they haven't received what is supposed to be inside the packet." ‌ She claims that she has been inundated with messages from people telling her that they have been victims of the scam. The alleged scam involves the buyer receiving the parcel, going to the app and then reporting an issue claiming that they have not received what they ordered - when they actually have. Chloe believes that people are taking part in this scam in a bid to get their money back, as well as a free item. ‌ In order to tackle this scam, the vinted seller gave her viewers some advice. She said: "Buyers need to be double wrapping an item and then sending it out - I cannot stress this enough. Make sure that you ship the items properly in good packaging and also make sure that you photograph it. Make sure you have evidence." Sellers should take photographs and document every item before shipping as this creates proof of its condition and authenticity. This means sellers can use this information to resolve any disputes if buyers claim any damage or misrepresentation. ‌ On top of this, sellers are advised to use tracking shipping as it enables the seller to oversee the delivery process. These tips, as well as being alert against any schemes, will help sellers avoid losing their products and payments, while also helping them handle any potential disputes. Victims of the scam took to the comment section of Chloe's video sharing their own experiences. One person said: "I had a customer take out my items worth £50 bedding and blankets and put a beach towel in an open parcel and tried to claim I sent her a £4 beach towel but luckily I take photos of my parcel and make a video while packing it and pictures when I put it in the locker so she didn't get away with it." ‌ Sharing advice, another added: "I always take a photo of the item with the packaging and shipping label and then again with it all packaged up and send that to the buyer as proof I've sent everything and packaged it correctly." A third person also commented: "It's crazy that we have to go to these lengths not to get scammed." ‌ Vinted also has the Buyer Protection tool to help buyers resolve any disputes. If sellers come across a buyer who they believe is intentionally lying, users can report them to Vinted's support team for review and potential action. The app's team have also said that if sellers are scammed or phished while using the app, they should report it immediately. To do so, follow these steps: Press 'contact us' on Vinted's website or app Add screenshots of the messages or email Users should also include the username or profile link of the Vinted member, photographs of the item before shipping, shipping confirmation and tracking information. 'My parcel was stolen after Evri dumped it,' says Lincoln woman

Parcel couriers need to take more accountability for their deliveries, says a woman whose birthday present for her daughter was stolen after being left on the Selmi, from Lincoln, said her parcel was delivered by Evri but was taken soon after it had been "dumped" in full view of the rest of the street."It's just carelessness. They don't care. It's not theirs, is it?" she Evri spokesperson said: "We've apologised to Krystal that her daughter's birthday present didn't arrive and offered a goodwill gesture as her experience fell short of the high standards we expect." Doorbell camera footage shared with the BBC shows a man taking the parcel from the doorstep on 8 Selmi, 36, said she believed that if more care had been taken when it was delivered, it would not have been stolen."They had just dumped it on the doorstep," she said. "A few hours later, it was gone. It was stolen."The parcel contained a pair of shoes for her daughter."I was really angry, really upset. I'd saved my money over a couple of months to pay for these shoes she desperately wanted," she said."Now we haven't got them, and I can't replace them." Ms Selmi said the courier told her she should contact Vinted, where she had bought the shoes, for a refund."It's like Evri are trying to pass the buck on to the senders," she weeks after the incident, Ms Selmi said it nearly happened said an Evri courier failed to ring her doorbell while she was in and left another package in plain sight on her doorstep."What if I had not have been here? Would it have been gone again?" she said. A spokesperson for Evri apologised for Ms Selmi's experience, and said her first port of call should be with the retailer."In line with the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the retailer or sender is responsible for the parcel being safely received," Evri said."Any issue should be raised directly with the retailer or sender. If there is an issue with a delivery – as there was in this case – we work closely with the retailer to ensure the matter is resolved, whether that is a refund or a replacement."A spokesperson for Vinted said: "Members can contact Vinted for any issues with their parcels and we can contact the shipping provider on their behalf to investigate."We're sorry to hear that the parcel was not delivered to a safe place. As the parcel was ultimately not safely received by the member, we have processed a refund."Listen to highlights from Lincolnshire on BBC Sounds, watch the latest episode of Look North or tell us about a story you think we should be covering here.

Maisie is such a pro at sourcing and selling bits and bobs that she made reselling her full-time career last year. Sharing a look at one of the lagenlook boho dresses she'd picked up on Vinted, she revealed she paid £3.30 for it in a bundle of seven items. Maisie then managed to sell the dress on for £20.46 on eBay. "So if you're not keen on getting out to car boots or charity shops or you just don't have the time get on Vinted," she said. "Then get this stuff delivered to your door, take better photographs and list it back on Vinted!" Another way Maisie makes her job easier is to ensure it's all properly organised. This means she doesn't have to spend ages searching through bags of items in order to find something she's sold. In another TikTok video, Maisie explained she'd bought clear plastic bags, and used number stickers to number each one. She then put each garment into one of the plastic bags, before putting into a box on an IKEA Kallax unit she'd picked up. When listing the items, she puts the numbers in the description, so that she knows exactly where she'll find it in her storage boxes. I made £185 in less than 24 hours on Vinted thanks to a pricing trick that hooks sellers without having to send offers "I can't get enough of this and I'm really hoping that it helps me get organised," she said. "And if anyone else is looking to do the same I hope it helps you!" Other side hustlers were quick to comment on Maisie's video, with one writing: "You've inspired me honey bee. The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it. Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017. More information here: "Numbers make life so much easier!" another said.
