'Great that Composers like Alexey Shor are Writing Tonal Music', says Roman Kim
Gulf Network The InClassica International Music Festival will soon be returning to Dubai from April 6th to 21st, 2025 , celebrating its 14th annual edition with an extraordinary lineup of world-renowned soloists, conductors, and orchestras. Taking place at the prestigious Dubai Opera , this year's festival holds special significance as it marks the 55th birthday of Composer-in-Residence Alexey Shor , a prolific artist who is hailed amongst the most influential voices in the contemporary classical music scene. Among the star performers gracing the stage at this edition is the celebrated violinist Roman Kim , who will headline the festival's opening concert on April 6th. Kim, widely regarded as one of the most innovative violinists of his generation, expressed his excitement at joining the festival, stating that 'I'm very honored and very happy to be part of this festival, to open it, and to perform on stage with such great musicians. It's a truly special occasion, and I'm really excited!' For his performance at InClassica, Kim will be collaborating with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia under the baton of the esteemed UK conductor John Warner . Reflecting on this upcoming partnership, Kim noted that 'I have never performed with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia before, so it will be an incredible experience for me. I'm really looking forward to playing with them at this festival.' Alexey Shor, InClassica Composer-in-Residence As InClassica continues to expand classical music's reach in the Middle East, this edition will highlight the works of Alexey Shor, celebrating his rich legacy and plentiful contributions to contemporary classical music. Kim, who has previously performed Alexey Shor's works, shared his appreciation for the composer's distinct musical style, noting that 'it is great that some composers today are still writing in tonal music, rather than atonal. Alexey Shor is writing tonal music, and I admire such a creative activity very much, because musical art is the most beautiful art and it has the capacity to save the world!' Kim's April 6th performance will feature Shor's Violin Concerto No. 2, 'Phantasms', a work that blends lyrical expressiveness with virtuosic flair. Speaking about the concerto, Kim remarked that, 'I have already performed part of this piece—'Flight of the Falcon'—and I think it's a fantastic idea to incorporate it into a full concerto. I'm very happy to be one of the performers bringing this work to life.' Beyond his participation in InClassica 2025, Kim has a busy year ahead with a host of performances, masterclasses, and projects. 'I have many exciting projects this year,' he said. 'I will be playing twelve concerts in Munich, featuring traditional repertoire, as well as performances in Taiwan, Romania, Italy, France, and more. In China, I'll be sitting on the jury of an international competition this July, and I will also be giving many summer academies and masterclasses, as well as concerts of course. Additionally, I'm working on launching my own violin string company, as I've been producing my own strings for many years. It's a lot of work, but I'm very excited!' This Clip Of JD Vance Getting Mercilessly Booed At A Concert Is Going Viral
Hardly two weeks ago, JD Vance touched down in Vermont for a ski vacation shortly following his and Donald Trump's Oval Office meeting-turned-yelling-match with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. As you can see, Vermonters were not too happy with his presence. Well, it looks like the East Coast is keeping that energy consistent as JD and his wife, Usha Vance, were met by a chorus of booing while attending a concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In a now-viral video of the moment, JD and Usha are seen taking their seats for what was reportedly the National Symphony Orchestra's performance of Shostakovich's "Violin Concerto No. 2" and Stravinsky's "Petrushka." (Perhaps ironically, perhaps not, both of these musical pieces were composed for a ballet about Russian puppets.) Someone in the clip can be heard telling another that JD has stepped in, to which they respond, "Oh fuck. Oh shit." Then, almost as if on queue, the room largely starts booing. Which JD decides to respond to by waving.

MAGA Meltdown After Vance Is Booed at Kennedy Center
MAGA figures are fighting back after JD Vance was mercilessly booed at the Kennedy Center Thursday night. Vance and second lady Usha Vance had arrived at the venue to catch a concert by the National Symphony Orchestra, but it was the boos and jeers that served as a curtain-raiser to Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 2. Usha, who was recently named by Donald Trump as a board member of the Kennedy Center, and her husband stayed for the duration of the concert, despite the 30-second onslaught. Special envoy Richard Grenell led the charge, hitting back at the treatment of the vice president and his wife. Grenell, who Trump put in charge in an acting capacity after firing the Kennedy Center board while naming himself as chairman, has now come out fighting for the Vances. 'The intolerant Left are radicals who can't even sit in the same room with people that don't vote like they do,' he wrote Thursday evening, sharing a clip of the scene. 'What has happened to today's Democrats? They are so intolerant.' Early Friday he once again breached the topic, calling for the center to be made a place 'where everyone is welcomed.' 'This video should challenge us all to commit to making the Kennedy Center a place where everyone is welcomed,' he said. 'It troubles me to see that so many in the audience appear to be white and intolerant of diverse political views. 'Diversity is our strength. We must do better. We must welcome EVERYONE. We will not allow the Kennedy Center to be an intolerant place.' Grenell was not the only MAGA figure to speak out against the boos directed at the Vances. Trump reportedly privately railed against the center's perceived focus on liberal artists last month. The Wall Street Journal reported that he also displayed confusion as to why his friends were never bestowed with coveted Kennedy Center awards. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said after Trump parachuted himself into the chairman seat last month: 'The Kennedy Center learned the hard way that if you go woke, you will go broke.' It comes after the president used Truth Social to terminate multiple members of the organization's board, including Chairman David M. Rubenstein, who he said 'do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture.'

JD Vance booed by crowd at Kennedy Center concert after Trump takeover of arts venue
JD Vance booed by crowd at Kennedy Center concert after Trump takeover of arts venue Show Caption Hide Caption JD Vance booed at Kennedy Center performance The vice president was booed at the Kennedy Center amid controversy after President Trump took over as chairman. WASHINGTON − Vice President JD Vance received a roaring chorus of boos and jeers while attending a National Symphony Orchestra performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Thursday. Loud boos broke out in the audience as Vance took his seat in the box tier next to his wife, Usha Vance, for the symphony's performance of Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 2 and Stravinsky's "Petrushka." The vice president could be seen in videos smiling and waving amid the noise. Shouts of 'you ruined this place!' could also be heard among the boos, The Guardian reported. The symphony's performance was delayed about 20 minutes because of Secret Service security measures, the New York Times reported. Vance's less-than-welcome reception comes after his boss, President Donald Trump, launched a major overhaul of the cultural center's leadership. Last month, Trump removed multiple board members (prompting others to leave voluntarily) and replaced them with allies and Cabinet members. Trump also announced a new chairman for the Kennedy Center board: himself. The president made the decision, he explained on social media at the time, after the center hosted drag show performances at its venue last year. What's the buzz?! Sign up for USA TODAY's Everyone's Talking newsletter. Multiple stars and artists have denounced the new administration's takeover, some opting to pull upcoming performances at the center off the calendar. Usha Vance is among the new Kennedy Center board members, along with Trump's Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
