A Virgil Abloh Exhibition Is Coming to Paris Fashion Week in September
Anyone who was a friend or a fan of Virgil Abloh knows that his birthday, September 30, invariably fell during Paris Fashion Week. No matter how the show calendar shifted around, and how low-key he kept the celebrations, the occasion coincided with people being in town from all over, with his latest Off-White collection, with him DJing parties and attending the shows of his peers. So it feels both meaningful and fitting that this day will mark the opening of 'Virgil Abloh: The Codes,' a Paris exhibition that puts a fresh spin on his vast body of work and represents the first major European exhibition devoted to the magnanimous and paradigm-shifting designer. The show is being developed and produced by the Virgil Abloh Archive™ in partnership with Nike, and will take place at the Grand Palais, which recently unveiled the second phase of a major renovation. Occupying 13,350 square feet of the gallery space, it will showcase prototypes, objects, images, and sketches that attest to Abloh's incomparable output over two decades. This means all his areas of interest: fashion, architecture, footwear, music, furniture, art, graphics and much more. Of the approximately 20,000 objects that make up the Virgil Abloh Archive™ (the trademark symbol, a uniquely VA flourish), roughly 5% will be featured, which translates to something like 1,000 traces of the designer in some form or other, and much of it never seen by the public. What already feels compelling about the framing of the exhibition is that everything on display sheds light on Abloh's way of creating—how process-oriented he was and what this actually entailed. For every hypebeast product, there would have been any number of decisions and discussions with collaborators. To wit, the designer famously used WhatsApp as the medium through which brainstorming was brought to life, and apparently there will be photos of various exchanges, along with elements from his personal collection and library. 'We want to showcase all the ways that Virgil thought,' Athiththan Selvendran told Vogue ahead of the announcement. Known as 'Athi' since joining Abloh as an assistant in 2016, he now holds multiple roles of Chief Operating Officer of Virgil Abloh Securities, Chief Creative Officer of the Virgil Abloh Foundation, and Director of the Virgil Abloh Archive.

Kid Cudi and Lola Abecassis Sartore tie the knot
Kid Cudi and Lola Abecassis Sartore have tied the knot. The couple – who got engaged in 2023 – wed at the Cap Estel in Èze in the South of France, near Lola's hometown, on June 28. Lola told 'It was intense - but so fun and enjoyable to get to turn our vision into our dream weekend. The team were so supportive of our vision, and they made the process so easy and enjoyable. Wedding planning can get very stressful, but they made sure to turn all our dreams into reality. From choosing the location to building a bounce castle as an homage to our dear friend Virgil Abloh, they made it all so easy. 'A beautiful location, the people we love the most, and simple decor to highlight all of that. The red thread throughout the process was timelessness. 'It was bliss. A moment out of time where the world stopped, and it was just the two of us. We forgot everything around us. It was just us and our love, and it was the purest moment.' Kudi – whose real name is Scott Mescudi – and Lola decided to have an homage to late fashion designer Abloh on their big day as they originally met at Abloh's first show for Louis Vuitton in 2018. Lola said: 'I was working behind the scenes, and Scott was walking the runway. Our eyes met in the chaos, and there was a silent spark. After the show, Scott walked straight up and asked for my number.' And, the pair are currently enjoying the early stages of newlywed bliss. Lola said: 'Everyone [we know who had] already gotten married told us it would go fast. We didn't know it would go this quickly [though]. We're on cloud nine in our little bubble of love. It's so overwhelming to receive so much love in such a short amount of time. You want this feeling to never end. It was really the most perfect, flawless, peaceful day, and we want to do it all over again. Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing.'

Louis Vuitton Puts Luxury Novelty Bags Back on the Radar With $10,000 Lifebuoy Purse
Louis Vuitton reentered the novelty bag space with the release of its Lifebuoy bag. Designed with the French luxury fashion house's signature craft, the bag was teased by guests at the Louis Vuitton men's spring 2026 show in Paris in June. Featuring its iconic logo on the leather canvas material, the bag is now listed on the brand's website as 'Notify Me' with a retail price of $10,000. More from WWD EXCLUSIVE: Louis Vuitton and Felix Team on 2025 Silver Lockit Collection for UNICEF EXCLUSIVE: Louis Vuitton's New Travel Campaign Highlights the Beauty of China Is the Labubu Effect Coming for Beauty Next? Despite the unique circular design, the bag is functional, featuring three separate zipped compartments and an adjustable leather strap for shoulder or cross-body carry. The accessory is already catching the attention of social media. This is not the first time the French house has had a novelty purse making waves online. In 2021, Louis Vuitton debuted a viral airplane bag, created by the late Virgil Abloh, which retailed for roughly $39,000. Other entries into the brand's novelty bag list include the LV Fan bag, from the spring 2025 runway, the LV Monogram LV Paint Can Bag and the LV x Yayoi Kusama Pumpkin Shoulder Bag. Over the course of the last several seasons, luxury brands have released a selection of novelty bags that stand out for their playful and unconventional designs. Notable examples include Moschino's Teddy Bear purse, Balenciaga's trash bag and Loewe's tomato clutch. 'There's been always a pendulum on what rises and falls and swings and sways,' said Susan Korn, designer of accessories label Susan Alexandra, about the trend in an interview with WWD in August 2024. 'In the past couple of years we've seen there's been this return to a very serious suit dressing — like neutral suit dressing, the vest as a shirt and the return to the traditional black bag. On the other end of the spectrum, you have a really fun, ridiculous, outrageous, not so serious bag. When you go too far in one direction, you always want to go to the other.' Prior to the 2024 resurgence of novelty bags, signs of the trend's rise were evident in 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In February 2020, novelty handbags were spotted at the Fame and Moda trade shows in New York City. Heather London, a sales rep for Mary Frances Accessories, noted how the trend was making a comeback at the time. 'You're seeing it on the runway; you're seeing it with the major designers,' London told WWD in February 2020. 'It trickles down and it just keeps getting more and more popular.' On the Podcast: Robin Givhan Discusses Her Latest Book Make it Ours: Crashing the Gates of Culture With Virgil Abloh
When Virgil Abloh suddenly passed away in 2021, at the age of 41 from a rare form of cancer, he occupied a unique place in the industry. As creative director of Louis Vuitton men's, he had one of the most visible and influential jobs in fashion. He was widely celebrated for breaking down barriers and his decidedly egalitarian approach to being creative, but his unlikely path to the top meant he often encountered resistance when it came to the establishment. It was this combination of factors that led Robin Givhan, the Pulitzer Prize-winning critic at the Washington Post, to write a book focused on his career. 'I'm sure you read some of my criticism of Virgil when he was designing womenswear for Off-White—I was pretty critical, and you know, there were definitely moments when I just did not think that his work for women made sense in the broader fashion context,' she tells Nicole Phelps and Digital Style Director Leah Faye Cooper in the latest episode of The Run-Through. 'But his customers felt this intimacy that I thought was unlike the relationship that other designers had with their customers. After he passed away, I thought it would be interesting to explore what I was seeing as a critic, simply responding to the clothes, and how this whole other community of people was responding to the clothes and the fact that he made them.' Listen to the episode to learn more about what Givhan considers Abloh's accomplishments and impact on fashion to be.
