GMC reports first triplet birth through its free IVF facility
Panaji: The IVF facility at GMC reported the birth of triplets, the first of its kind at the facility, said health minister Vishwajit Rane. The woman delivered two girls, weighing 1.5kg and 1.7kg, and a boy weighing 2.3kg. Despite complex medical challenges, the woman underwent a successful caesarean section at GMC, Rane said, and added, 'The mother and the newborns are in healthy condition, a testament to the expertise, dedication, and compassionate care of our medical team.' 'I launched the free IVF facility at GMC for couples who longed to start their own family but faced the emotional and financial burden of infertility,' he said. 'The IVF centre, the first such centre in the country offering free treatment, aims to give new hope to those who nearly gave up,' Rane said. 'This highlights the success and impact of Goa's IVF programme,' he said. GMC's free IVF treatment facility announced the birth of its first IVF baby, a healthy baby girl, in Dec last year. The free IVF treatment facility was inaugurated in Aug 2023, along with the Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) and intrauterine insemination (IUI)/IVF centre, which is central to the treatment, positioning Goa as a trailblazer in accessible fertility treatments.

Goa health camps detect five heart attacks in a day, screen over 13,000 people statewide
Five heart attack cases were detected and treated during a government health camp in Navelim, as Goa 's Health Department continued its drive to deliver emergency care and free check-ups across the state. Over 13,000 people have been screened through 16 Mega Medical Camps under this campaign so far. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said timely detection and treatment saved lives in Navelim and earlier in Margao. Doctors identified five patients with myocardial infarction (heart attack) and administered clot-dissolving therapy on-site before referring them to the district hospital, during the Navelim camp that served over 1,100 people A day earlier, three more heart attack cases were detected at the Margao health camp and stabilised with similar emergency treatment. 'At the Margao Health Camp yesterday, 3 cases of myocardial infarction were identified and immediately stabilised,' Rane said. Each camp provides free consultations from departments including General Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, ENT, and Dental. On-site tests include ECGs, blood sugar and pressure checks, breast and cervical cancer screening using iBreast and Pap smear kits, and osteoporosis testing. The camps also offer AYUSH consultations, diabetes counselling, wellness sessions, and digital health ID registration under the PMJAY-ABHA scheme. All services, including prescribed medicines, are provided at no cost. Live Events Minister Rane said the series of health camps have now reached over 13,000 Goans. 'Our Mega Medical Camps have touched the lives of over 13,000+ Goans, with today's camp at Navelim serving 1,100+ people,' he said. Sunday's camp also extended services to 15 army personnel and their families. Earlier camps saw similar large turnouts. One camp in Vasco attracted over 1,300 people in five hours, compared to just 300 at the initial events. The government is conducting these camps under the 'Swasth Goa, Sampoorna Seva' campaign. The initiative brings together Goa Medical College , Goa Dental College, and the Directorate of Health Services to deliver doorstep healthcare using expert teams and modern tools. Rane said the initiative aligns with the national goal of providing 'Health for All.' He added that the camps are offering 'free expert care at your doorstep' and creating a 'festival of health and wellness' that is changing Goa's public health outlook.

Personnel dept issues fresh order appointing head of TCP
Panaji: Two days after unprecedented administrative orders were issued by two different departments headed by chief minister Pramod Sawant and TCP minister Vishwajit Rane over the appointment of the chief town planner , state govt on Thursday issued a new order appointing senior town planner R K Pandita as chief town planner (land use). He was made head of the department in TCP. On Monday, the personnel department issued an order appointing Pandita to the post of chief town planner (planning). However, the very next day, the Rane-led TCP ministry issued an order appointing Vertika Dagur as chief town planner (planning). Govt said that now Dagur shall hold charge of chief town planner (admin) and chief town planner (planning), with immediate effect, in addition to her own duties and until further orders. Goa stampede: Health department announces implementation of code red protocol
Panaji: In the aftermath of the tragic death of six devotees in a stampede, the Goa health department has announced the phase-wise implementation of a "code red" system in hospitals to ensure swift response to emergencies. While two among them have responded positively to treatment, close monitoring is needed. Six devotees were killed and about 70 injured in a stampede that occurred in the wee hours of Saturday during the annual Sree Lairai Devi temple festival in Shirgao village in North Goa. Rane said "code red" is an internationally-established emergency response protocol. "Code Red protocol activates automatically during medical emergencies in hospitals. You don't need to wait for any department or individual to respond. Under this system, multi-disciplinary doctors are immediately engaged to ensure quick and necessary decisions," he said. Rane said he visited the injured devotees and discussed the treatment protocols with treating doctors. "I told doctors that the government will immediately act on any demand for engaging specialists from any part of the country to treat the injured persons or backup systems needed to stabilise patients," he added.
