Milwaukee man charged in wrong-way crash on I-43 that killed two and injured one

A Milwaukee man has been arrested and charged in connection with a wrong-way crash on Memorial Day on Interstate 43 in the Town of Port Washington area that killed two people and seriously injured another. Ace Vue, 34, was charged with two counts of first-degree reckless homicide in the deaths of Nicole Horne, 51, and Jay Horne, 56, of Oostburg. Vue was also charged with one count of first-degree reckless injury for seriously injuring 22-year-old passenger Alissa Horne. The charges could come with a fine of up to $100,000 and a prison term of up to 145 years. The crash happened at 12:44 a.m. May 26. According to the criminal complaint: Vue got on I-43 in the Town of Belgium, driving southbound in the northbound lanes. He was "swerving and excessively speeding." Other cars flashed their lights and honked as he passed by. At least five people called 911. When Vue hit the Horne's vehicle, dash camera footage from Vue's vehicle showed a vehicle speed of 92 mph. A deputy who investigated the crash said both vehicles sustained "substantially devastating damage." Nicole Horne and Jay Horne were pronounced dead at the scene. Alissa Horne was pinned in the backseat but was conscious. Deputies were able to extricate both Alissa Horne and Vue from their vehicles. Alissa Horne was taken by Port Washington Fire and Rescue to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. Vue was taken to Aurora Medical Center in Grafton and then was flown by Flight for Life to Froedtert. Vue was arrested at his home on June 2, according to an updated news release from the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office said Vue was released from the hospital sometime over the weekend of May 31-June 1 without the sheriff's office being notified. On June 3, Vue will appear in court for an initial appearance. Contact Claudia Levens at clevens@ Follow her on X at @levensc13. Ex-volunteer with Ramsey County Sheriff's Office youth program gets probation for sexually abusing girl

A former volunteer with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office Youth Plus Program and one-time aspiring police officer was sentenced to two years of supervised probation on Tuesday for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl last year. Pao Ge Vue, 27, of St. Paul, pleaded guilty in April to an amended charge of gross misdemeanor fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct after reaching a plea deal that also included dismissing a felony count of attempted fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. Ramsey County District Judge David Brown followed the plea deal and stayed a nearly one-year jail sentence. The victim and father agreed with the plea deal, according to the county attorney's office. She wrote a statement for Brown to read prior to Vue's sentencing, but did not want it read aloud in court. According to the criminal complaint, the girl's older sister reported the abuse to St. Paul police on Jan. 30, 2024. She said the girl had attended the youth program two to three times a week over the summer and that Vue, who was her coach, often provided the transportation for her. The girl's family began noticing she was spending a lot of time going to the 'program' during off-hours. Her family also discovered that Vue was taking her to a workout facility in the evenings, 'which caused concern,' the complaint says. She told police that Vue touched her inner thighs five times, while also trying to touch her groin area before she told him to stop. She said that on two or three occasions Vue grabbed her hand to try and get her to touch his penis, which she refused to do. Vue also tried to kiss her, she told police. The incidents happened when Vue was driving her somewhere or at a gym not associated with the youth program. '(The girl) said as the touching occurred, she felt like crying,' the complaint reads. 'She was also scared and questioning herself as to why she was going with him.' She said Vue was in charge of her group and that he often would drive her and other kids to a park or field to work on skills for the sports they were playing. She lived closest to Vue so he would pick her up first and drop her off last. She said she spent time with Vue outside of his volunteering time with the program and that she felt obligated to do so because he bought her volleyball shorts, a gym membership, food and other things. She said Vue told her to wear the shorts and made sexual comments to her as she was working out at the gym. Vue told police he had become a volunteer with the Youth Plus Program in spring 2023 'because he wanted to become a police officer and thought it was a good career building move,' the complaint states. Vue acknowledged to police that he provided transportation for the girl and other juveniles, and admitted to hanging out with some of them outside of his volunteering time. He said he bought them items with his own money. When Vue was asked if he ever touched the girl or she touched him, he said he wanted to 'remain silent.' Vue's volunteer status with the program was terminated on Feb. 13, 2024. According to its webpage, the sheriff's office started the program in February 2019 and it 'introduces youth participants to athletics, outdoor activities, life skills, and literacy enhancement to improve reading skills. More importantly, this structured program helps prevent youth from becoming involved in criminal activity and helps them make more positive choices.' He recently was told by the state Department of Health he would be disqualified because of the charges, according to Goldberger. Vue apologized in court and said he understands the 'seriousness of my actions' and that he 'will never make this same mistake again.' His sentencing also includes that he complete treatment or a counseling program recommended by probation and register as a predatory offender. He cannot have contact with minor females unless approved by his probation officer.

Nottinghamshire MP weighs in on 'critical' fight to save Orca whales trapped in abandoned park

A Nottinghamshire MP has weighed in on the battle to save two Orca whales and 12 dolphins who are trapped in an abandoned marine park in France. Michael Payne, the Labour MP for Gedling, has urged the government minister responsible for animal welfare to get involved in the fight to rescue Wikie, aged 23, and her 11-year-old son Keijo The two orcas are trapped in the Marineland Antibes in southern France, which closed in January 2025 following the implementation of legislation banning performances by whales and dolphins. Along with twelve dolphins, the Mirror has reported that the animals are aimlessly circling tanks filled with algae. French authorities have so far refused rehoming offers from Canada, Japan and Tenerife. Mr Payne writes in his letter to Baroness Hayman of Ullock: "As Britain has long and proud history of championing animal welfare and environmental stewardship, I respectfully urge you to use your good offices to take urgent steps to support the French authorities in any way possible to steward an immediate relocation of these animals to a suitable sanctuary, including whether there would be an opportunity for these magnificent creatures to be rehomed here in the UK. The longer these animals remain in their current conditions, the greater the risk is to their physical and psychological well-being. "The UK government's voice could be instrumental in encouraging and supporting French authorities to facilitate a compassionate resolution. I trust you will agree that the UK must continue to lead by example in protecting vulnerable wildlife. "I would be grateful if you could raise this matter with your counterparts in France and support international efforts to secure a safe and dignified future for these animals." Wikie and Keijo are currently under the park's legal guardianship until a new home is found for them, yet their caretakers have stressed that the Orcas must "leave now" for their own well-being. A proposed relocation to Loro Parque marine zoo in Tenerife was recently vetoed, despite the zoo housing four of its own captive Orcas - including a calf born in March this year. The scientific panel responsible for approving such moves stated that the new tank would "not meet the minimum requirements in terms of surface area, volume and depth necessary to house the specimens in optimal conditions". French ecology minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher expressed her desire in February to find a European sanctuary for the duo but admitted that a suitable location had not yet been identified.
