WBC orders Badou Jack vs. Noel Mikaelyan immediate title rematch after controversial decision

Badou Jack (left) and Norair Mikaeljan are going to have to run it back. () The WBC ordered an immediate rematch between Badou Jack and Noel Mikaelyan for Jack's cruiserweight championship on Monday afternoon, after a successful appeal from Mikaelyan's promoter, Don King Productions. If the pair is unable to reach a deal for their ordered title bout, a purse bid hearing will commence on July 1. Advertisement Jack won a controversial majority decision (114-114, 115-113, 115-113) over Mikaelyan on the Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. William Scull undercard in Riyadh this past month. Mikaelyan out-landed Jack 153 to 122 in total punches over 12 rounds. DAZN's Chris Mannix on the live broadcast had Mikaelyan in front — as did Uncrowned's unofficial scorecard and the majority of viewers at home — however the judges decided differently at the conclusion of 36 minutes. This led to Mikaelyan and his team filing an appeal with the WBC over the decision — and in a rare move, the WBC granted the request for an immediate rematch. Advertisement Mikaelyan (27-3, 12 KOs), who stepped in on three weeks' notice to replace the injured Ryan Rozicki, has been on the wrong end of debatable decisions before. The Armenian-born German fighter lost a controversial split decision to Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in 2017, and his efforts were grossly under-appreciated in a unanimous decision defeat to Mairis Briedis the following year. Mikaelyan stopped Ilunga Junior Makabu in three rounds to capture the WBC cruiserweight crown in November 2023 but was stripped of the belt after a promotional dispute with Don King. This led to the WBC reinstating Jack (29-3-3, 17 KOs), the champion in recess at the time, as the full champion. When Mikaelyan stepped in to replace Rozicki and face Jack in May, a saga spanning two years at cruiserweight seemed like it was finally reaching a conclusion. But now with the WBC's ruling, there will inevitably be even more holdups to unification bouts being made involving the WBC cruiserweight title.

Paul told his Most Valuable Promotions: 'After Chavez I think Gervonta Davis, Anthony Joshua, KSI, Tommy Fury, Ryan Garcia, Badou Jack. It's a pretty hefty list." The American revealed he is lining up an exhibition bout against WBA lightweight champion Davis, 30, later this year. Davis, 30, was in talks to face Paul this summer until he controversially drew against Lamont Roach, 29, in March with the two set to rematch in August. He said: 'I definitely think that will happen at some point Tommy just has to be realistic about what he's worth and taking the amazing deal that we had. "I can fight any big name opponents all Tommy has is me. But I do wanna make the rematch happen and I definitely know that I'm going to destroy and knock him out. Paul made the comments in an appearance on the TMZ Sports TV show (which airs nightly on FS1), joining host Babcock to discuss the upcoming fight, his opponent, and developments within his Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) company. "Man, I'm feeling better than ever," Jake Paul said. "This is going to be my breakout performance." Paul, 28, acknowledged the difficulty of the matchup but made clear who he believes will leave the ring embarrassed. "It's going to be a tough fight, you know. Someone's going to get embarrassed, and it's not going to be me. But I'm training harder than ever. I know this is my toughest opponent yet. Fireworks Set To Explode In Hamburg!

Fireworks Set To Explode In Hamburg! originally appeared on Athlon Sports. History is about to be made in Hamburg when two undefeated Heavyweight champions of the future meet. The two unbeaten heavyweights are set to collide for a continental title on June 7th. Advertisement This is not just any other fight; it is the biggest Heavyweight fight to take place in Hamburg since the Klitschko Brothers ruled the heavyweight ranks. When you look at the two competitors, you can understand the excitement. Xhoxhaj, who is 32 years old from Kosovo, has never lost a boxing match since he started his professional career. His record of 20-0-1 certainly shows that he knows what it takes to win a boxing match, with 16 knockouts out of those 20 wins, he has displayed the ability to end fights. He recently won the European title in an effortful battle. He still came to the top even after being knocked down. Xhoxhaj again faced Oleksandr Zakhozhyi, who was much bigger, and he still won the match. "This is one of the biggest fights of my career," said Xhoxhaj to his fans on his Instagram account recently in May 2025. Can you hear the determination in his voice? Advertisement Challenging him will be Mourad Aliev, a 29-year-old left-handed boxer. Aliev represented France as an amateur in the Olympics before turning professional. He, too, is undefeated with a record of 13-0, with 10 knockouts, and is looking to add a European title to his WBC International Silver belt. Both fighters' styles make the matchup interesting. Xhoxhaj is a grinder and is going to come forward all night long no matter the cost. Aliev is the slick boxer and Olympian who will make you miss and make you pay. Both fighters have a lot to fight for. Both will walk away with the rights to brag about being European Heavyweight champions. This opportunity also represents a legitimate chance to potentially fight for a World title. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 1, 2025, where it first appeared.
