Chapman's Eat Market in German Village to close after five years
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Chapman's Eat Market, a German Village eatery from the Columbus restaurateur couple behind Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge, is closing after five years in business. Husband-and-wife duo B.J. Lieberman and Bronwyn Haines announced on social media last week that Chapman's at 739 S. Third St., which opened in 2020, is permanently shuttering at the end of August. The couple said, as the restaurant nears its fifth birthday and the end of the lease, they 'were faced with the difficult decision on whether or not to continue.' Ohio horror museum featuring 'last meal' restaurant reveals opening date 'Inevitably, we chose to finish our story on a high note, celebrating all that we have accomplished and created over the years and within these walls, including the team that we've built and the memories we made,' the social media post said. Watch a NBC4 report from Chapman's 2020 opening in the video player above. Lieberman was one of two Columbus chefs named among the semifinalists for last year's James Beard Awards, prestigious national honors that recognize talent in the culinary and food media industries. He and Haines also launched Ginger Rabbit at 17 Buttles Ave. in 2022, and most recently opened Metsi's Wood-Fired Italian at 36 E. Lincoln St. last month. Chapman's, named among the New York Times' best U.S. restaurants in 2021, is home to a curated menu of appetizers, salads, pastas and entrees, like Levantine cod, smoked Cornish game hen, and a 6-ounce beef tenderloin. Sides, like beef fat fries and wilted green beans, round out the menu. Granville's historic Buxton Inn listed for $5.85 million Lieberman and Haines said Chapman's final day of service will be announced in August. Until then, the restaurant is open 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 'We hope each and every one of you will join us for a final meal before we say goodbye — whether it's your last general tsos cauliflower, khao soi or maple budino, we look forward to serving and celebrating with you,' the social media post said. East African coffee shop to launch in Gahanna
GAHANNA, Ohio (WCMH) – A new East African coffee shop featuring pastries and desserts will soon launch in Gahanna. East African Coffee House will open at 4359 Morse Road on Saturday, according to Abdullah Abdullah, who owns the shop with his wife Hodan Ismail. 'We're just excited to showcase East African tradition and hospitality and culture in a beautiful fashion,' Abdullah said. The new coffee shop will feature traditional East African teas and coffees, which Abdullah said often feature unique spice blends. As an example, he pointed to one coffee on the menu called the 'Somali Qahwah,' which is made using coffee husks, ginger, cardamom, cloves and cinnamon. The storefront will also offer lattes, refreshers and matcha, along with small dishes including pastries, milk cakes, cheesecakes and tiramisu, according to Abdullah. Abdullah said he chose to launch his business in Gahanna because it is close to north Columbus' large East African community. He hopes to expand the business with more locations in the future. Both dine-in and takeout will be offered at the new shop, and the business will register on food service apps such DoorDash in the future, Abdullah said. On weekdays, East African Coffee House will likely regularly open at 7 a.m. and potentially close as late as 10 p.m. It will open and close later on weekends, however, Abdullah said the shop's exact hours have yet to be determined. Milo's Deli in Franklinton to reopen after 11-year closure
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A Franklinton deli is returning to the Columbus neighborhood more than 10 years after it closed. Milo's Deli is reopening later this summer at 401 W. Town St., owner Louie Pappas announced on social media. The deli is taking over the space previously home to Strongwater Food & Spirits, which closed in 2023 before being purchased by Pappas. Since then, Pappas has continued to operate Strongwater's event venue through his own catering business, Milo's Catering. Chapman's Eat Market in German Village to close after five years 'Franklinton has long been home for the Pappas family operations, and we're thrilled to be back with the reimagining of Milo's Deli,' the company's site states. The original deli opened in 1998 at 980 W. Broad St. but closed 16 years later in 2014 as the catering business continued to grow. The West Broad Street property remains under Pappas' ownership as the headquarters for Milo's Catering. Pappas is the brother of Michael Pappas, the owner of Franklinton's Tommy's Diner at 914 W. Broad St. The diner was founded more than 30 years ago by the brothers' father, Athanasios 'Tommy' Pappas, who died in December last year. Tommy's was featured earlier in 2024 on Guy Fieri's Food Network show 'Diners, Dive-ins and Dives.' What will happen to 5th Ave Floral Company's iconic neon sign in Columbus Milo's site states they're currently in the process of building out the space and menu, with an exact opening to be announced at a later date.
