DCSO, animal control and CPS involved in adult exploitation investigation

DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) — Five people have been charged in connection to an adult exploitation investigation in Daviess County. Police say the months long investigation started back in April and culminated in a search warrant being executed in the 5200 block of Pleasant Valley Road. The investigation started following the death of an adult male who lived in the home. The victim previously lived in a house at Fieldcrest Drive in Owensboro but was moved by the suspects into the home on Pleasant Valley Road. The release goes on to say the investigation determined several legal documents including a will and property deeds had been forged by the suspects and that one of the suspects had moved into the Fieldcrest home with the victim. Deputies say there was uninhibited access to drugs and firearms in the home, prompting Child Protective Services to be called to the scene. Two children were removed from the home. Several animals were also taken from the home due to evidence of neglect and poor living conditions. Second faith fest spring event discusses pilgrimage

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — It's a gathering grounded in faith and unity. In Owensboro, people of different religious backgrounds came together for the second annual Faith Fest spring leaders explored a shared spiritual tradition and invited the community to reflect. Faith Fest spring is in its second year, but the efforts that led to its creation started over a decade ago. It's centered around a theme sacred to both the Islamic and Christian faith: pilgrimage. Everything from reflection to celebration. This year's faith fest brings together two spiritual voices: Dr. Aseedu Kalik and Father Larry Hostetter. Fosters urgently needed after Davies County animal hoarding incident Officials say the message is simple: faith can unite. 'Christians, Muslims and Jews live together in Spain for centuries in peace and harmony. This is an old idea that we need to return to,' says Claudia Ramisch, the event's organizer. The two speakers dove deep into the topic of pilgrimage as over 4 dozen people listened. For Muslims, Hajj begins June 4. It's an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims. People are required to travel to the mecca at least once in their life. Dr. Kalik says he saw the mecca in December. 'We believe it's built by the angels and prophets. You see how the religion evolved, and how it spread the message of commonness [and] equality,' says Dr. Kalik, the spring event's speaker. Father Hostetter's speech focused on the attitude of a pilgrim and what it means to walk together toward God from the catholic perspective. His last pilgrimage was in Rome, Italy, but he says the practice can start small. 'Sometimes, I do a little chapel in the woods, and that's the pilgrimage for an afternoon. Then other times, I might be part of a group that travels to Rome,' says Father Hostetter, another speaker at the event. Officials say it reminds Owensboro that we all have a journey and sometimes the most powerful steps are taken together. 'It's really important right now that we know our neighbors, and religion is one of those things that sometimes is a taboo topic. We should be talking about [religion] because that's the source of our values and our interests,' says Ramisch. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Shawnee farmers plant historic corn at Angel Mounds

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – Historic seeds return home to Indiana. Members of the Shawnee Nation spent their Friday navigating rain-soaked fields, planting corn on the same land used for planting two centuries ago. 'This corn seemed most appropriate to plant at this site because it was born right here in Indiana,' says Shawnee farmer Ryan Conway, 'during the time of a spiritual movement led by a Shawnee man.' That Shawnee man is the prophet Tenskwatawa. Conway says tribes gathered in Prophetstown, Indiana in the early 1800s to plant and share their corn, which would then cross pollinate to create what is called Tenskwatawa corn. 'I think that is a symbol of that movement, and then also a symbol for our times,' explains Conway. 'Moving forward, finding ways of there being cross cultural acceptance, cross cultural tolerance, cross cultural thriving.' EVPL launches summer reading program for 2025 The seeds going into the ground are based on Indiana University research, which used ground penetrating radar and excavation to show how these crops would have grown. The project creates a living demonstration for visitors to Angel Mounds. 'The exciting thing is,' says Angel Mounds Site Director Mike Linderman, 'through archaeology, we found remnants of this kind of planting here on the site. This is the first time we've visually seen it in modern times.' Linderman says this provides a representation of what the Angel Mounds site would have looked like during that time period. When Conway and other Shawnee members are away, the garden will be tended to by local Scouts troops. Conway says though a different blend of corns, the growth process will be similar to the corn grown here in the Tri-State. 'The difference is that she is very big, she is very girthy,' explains Conway. 'She puts out a lot of tillers, but all of the tillers are productive. So, what I'm told, is that she can put out 7 to 10 tillers, and each one will still have at least one full viable ear of corn.' The corn is expected to grow throughout the Summer and the new garden to be on full display for Native American Days later this year. Friendship Review: Flat Character Study Sinks Cringe Comedy

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Friendship is a cringe comedy from A24 that is deeply unpleasant to watch, and even though that is intentional, its flat character arc and poor character study make it even more difficult to enjoy. Written and directed by Andrew DeYoung, Friendship stars Tim Robinson, Paul Rudd, and Kate Mara. Robinson plays Craig, a suburban dad who attempts to make friends with a charismatic weatherman (Rudd), but jealousy and total social awkwardness lead to increasing desperation until the friendship essentially poisons the protagonist's life. Last week: Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Review Robinson plays awkward and social ineptitude quite well, and to the degree that the humor works, it's because Robinson is not afraid to look ridiculous. Some of the loud line deliveries are funny, but most turn cringe comedy into just plain cringe. A scene in which Craig puts soap in his mouth and says he's been a 'bad boy' just feels uncomfortable, but when he's playing off repeatedly breaking a sliding glass door, it works well. Comedy is one of the more subjective art forms, so audiences' mileage will vary, but for me, most of Friendship's attempts at comedy did not work. Cringe comedy as a genre is closely related to comedies of manners, and the points of those good comedies of manners are to either lampoon or reinforce social niceties. Friendship reinforces basic social dynamics, but it's a shallow depiction, and nothing about what Craig does is particularly clever or insightful. The good comedies can work as dramas or compelling character studies. Friendship tries to be a character study, but the character is inconsistent. Craig, as we get to know him, is so abrasive and socially inept that it makes no sense that he has a wife and a seemingly successful career. Craig within the A to B of Friendship's story does not fit with the Craig who has accomplished what he has before the story begins. And Craig's arc in Friendship is rather flat. He begins the film as a put-upon doofus who seeks approval from people who will never grant it, and he essentially ends the film still seeking that approval – though, in fairness, the lengths that he goes to in order to gain that approval escalate dramatically. Friendship implies that everybody is just as insecure as Craig. Paul Rudd brilliantly plays a moment in which his character's insecurity is briefly revealed, but the film doesn't develop that theme beyond an initial reveal and brief callback. Ultimately, most audiences' enjoyment of Friendship will depend upon their patience with cringe comedy. If it generally works for you, then you might find more to enjoy about Friendship than I did. But doubtlessly, it's not a particularly deep or compelling film, and without a good dramatic arc, any thoughts about Friendship do not last long. Eyewitness News. Everywhere you are.
