New state regulations for vape products to take effect June 1: What to know

ALABAMA (WHNT) — The Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board announced that new state regulations regarding vape products are set to go into effect on June 1. HB8, also known as Act 2025-403, designates two specific retail permit types available to businesses for vape products, according to the ABC. They are as follows: ABC Tobacco PermitThe ABC Tobacco Permit authorizes the sale of the products listed below: Tobacco, tobacco products, and/or non-vapor-based alternative nicotine; or E-liquid, electronic nicotine delivery systems, and vapor-based alternative nicotine products that have received a marketing order or other authorization under 21 U.S.C. § 387j(c)(1)(A)(i) NOTE: This means that the product (i) has received an FDA marketing order; (ii) has received an FDA marketing denial order that has been stayed, rescinded, or vacated by a court order or by the FDA itself; or (iii) is subject to a premarket tobacco application that was timely filed and remains under review by the FDA; and (iv) is listed on The ENDS Directory is maintained by the Department of Revenue pursuant to Section 28-11-17.1. Those permittees that sell the above-mentioned products may renew their ABC Tobacco Permit for the 2025-2026 year when renewals begin June 1, 2025. The annual permit fee for an ABC Tobacco Permit is now $150. ABC Specialty Retailer of Electronic Nicotine Delivery System PermitThe ABC Specialty Retailer of Electronic Nicotine Delivery System Permit authorizes the saleof any allowable e-liquids, electronic nicotine delivery systems, and vapor-based alternativeNicotine products that meet the requirements of state and federal law, The annual permit fee for an ABC Specialty Retailer of Electronic Nicotine Delivery System Permit is $1,000.00. Any location that meets the definition of a Specialty Retailer of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems Permit under 28-11-2(19) must obtain the Specialty Retailer of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems Permit. These locations must be restricted to those 21 years of age or older and have signs posted indicating the age restriction. All products sold must meet all requirements of state and federal law. Current permit holders will receive official correspondence to the email address on record fromthe Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. Under HB8, convenience stores across the state are only allowed to sell 34 tobacco and menthol-flavored e-cigarette products approved by the FDA. All other flavors — including hundreds currently pending FDA review — will be banned from sale except in age-restricted vape shops where only those 21 and over can enter. Other notions in HB8 include: Banning the sale of vapes in vending machines Increasing penalties for selling vapes to minors under 21 Until the FDA begins to regulate vape products in the U.S., Alabama, as a state, must restrict and prohibit the sale of foreign vape products The State Board of Education shall adopt a model policy for vape awareness, education and prevention programs in public K-12 schools You can read the full enrolled act below. MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — Madison Fire and Rescue and the Madison Police Department are teaming up with Lifesouth to give back and get some bragging rights. MFR and MPD have announced they will hold the 'Boots and Badges Blood Drive' on June 4 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Madison City Hall. Make-A-Wish: Micah's story The two public safety agencies asked that people come donate to help local hospitals. MFR said the blood drive is also a friendly competition between the fire department and the police department. The fire department said that people who donate are encouraged to say if they are donating for the fire department or the police department. MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Multiple residents in Morgan County are being scammed out of a ton of money totaling over $1M. According to MCSO, last week a resident reported losing $813,000 to a scammer posing as law enforcement and claiming they had Federal Warrants and Charges. This particular resident made payments totaling $813,000 from January to May. This week, another resident reported losing $15,000 to a scammer posing as law enforcement and claiming they had Warrants and Charges as well. 'These are scams. Every time. Do not give money to anyone claiming to be Law Enforcement over the phone….ever….PLEASE,' said the Morgan County Sheriff's Office. MCSO told News 19 that a third resident was contacted by his 'bank' stating that they had received a tip about a $200,000 scam in the area and that his account had been compromised on the 'dark web'. Authorities said that the resident was directed to withdraw money from his bank and deposit it in a bitcoin machine in Huntsville 'for safe keeping until the scam is resolved'. In all, this resident lost $200,000. The Morgan County Sheriff's Office is providing some tips to residents on how to spot scams. You are contacted out of the blue There is an urgent crisis or issue The caller tries to make you fearful You are directed to send/give money or gift cards Hang up and call your bank to verify the issue Talk to someone before taking action When in doubt, hang up! JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Soon, Jackson County residents will have the opportunity to give their input on a proposed Pumped Storage Hydro project. On June 12, TVA will host a public meeting from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2025, at Pisgah High School located at 60 Metcalf Street, Pisgah, Alabama, 35765. The Pumped Storage Hydro, or PSH, stores energy by pumping water to a higher elevation and releasing it back through turbines when energy demand is high. TVA currently operates a PSH facility near Chattanooga, Tenn., the 1,700-megawatt Raccoon Mountain. The public is encouraged to provide input on TVA's Pumped Storage Hydropower Draft Environmental Impact Statement, either at the public meeting, online or through the mail. You can find the DEIS on the TVA website. 'All comments received, including names and addresses, will become part of the administrative record and will be available for public inspection,' TVA said. You can submit comments on the DEIS in person at the public meeting or via email to nepa@ TVA said that any written comments should be sent to this address: Tennessee Valley Authority, ATTN: Elizabeth Smith, NEPA Specialist, 400 West Summit Hill Drive, WT-11D, Knoxville, TN 37902. The public can provide feedback on the four options for the project below: TVA would not develop or expand PSH facilities at any of the project sites.
