Harmanpreet Kaur Shares POTM Award With This Star, Gesture Leaves Everyone Awestruck
India Women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur shared her Player of the Match award with fast bowler Kranti Gaud, who played a pivotal role in the team's win in the series decider, claiming six wickets in her quota of overs, at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. Harmanpreet's gesture reflected her appreciation for Gaud's match-winning performance as she gave her a signed ball with a special message written over it. "Dear Kranti, you are a star." Along with the message, her bowling figures (9.5 overs, 1-maiden, 52 runs and 6 wickets) were also written on the ball. An 84-ball 102 from captain Harmanpreet Kaur laid the foundation for India's series-clinching 13-run victory over England in the third ODI at Chester-le-Street. This marked Kaur's first century since June 2024 and was the second-fastest century by an Indian woman in ODIs. Her knock powered the visitors to a formidable total of 318/5. In reply, England fought hard through Nat Sciver-Brunt's 98 and her 162-run third wicket stand with Emma Lamb (68) but eventually ran out of steam as they were bowled out for 305. Kranti bagged her maiden five-wicket haul, finishing with 6 for 52 as India wrapped up the game by 13 runs with one ball remaining and clinched the three-match series 2-1. Kranti became the fifth Indian bowler and the youngest to pick up a six-wicket haul in WODIs. She also became only the second Indian to achieve the feat against England after Jhulan Goswami (2005). "I have got the player of the match. I want to share it with Kranti because she bowled one of the best spells of her career. I think it's a great achievement as a bowler. For an Indian team, for such fast bowlers, we have been dying for that. She has brought the experience from WPL and domestic and is executing herself here. I think she deserves to share this. I am really happy for this ball," Harmanpreet said in a video shared by BCCI on X. After clinching a historic T20I series 3-2, the women-in-blue sealed the three-match ODI series. The visitors began the ODI series in similar fashion with a comfortable four-wicket victory to take a 1-0 series lead over England. But the hosts secured an eight-wicket win at Lord's to level the three-match ODI series, taking it to the decider, which India won by 13 runs to wrap up a successful tour of England.

Harmanpreet's ton powers Indian women to series win over England
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Chester-le-Street (Durham), Jul 23 (PTI) Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur once again displayed penchant for saving her best for crunch games as India rode on her majestic century to win the high-scoring third women's ODI by 13 runs and clinch the series 2-1. A splendid 84-ball 102 from skipper Harmanpreet and a brisk fifty from Jemimah Rodrigues fired India Women to a challenging 318 for five, before the bowlers did just enough to bowl out England for 305 in 49.5 overs here on Tuesday. Young seamer Kranti Goud, playing only her fourth WODI, starred with 6/52, while left-arm spinner Shree Charani chipped in with 2/68. The win capped off a memorable tour for India Women, who also won the five-match T20I series 3-2. The 36-year-old Indian skipper didn't score too many in the first two games but when it mattered most, she oozed class en route to her seventh ton in the fifty-over format. The match was also special as she completed 4000 runs in WODIs in her 149th game. The knock gave India their second highest ODI score against England, but at no stage their highest score of 333/5 against this opponents, recorded in September 2022 in Canterbury, was under threat. Harmanpreet had scored a century in that game too. The India skipper played spectacular stokes particularly on the off-side which she peppered with most of her 14 boundaries. A few of them came down the ground and one was hit behind the wicket. Harmanpreet also stitched vital stands along the way, putting on 81 runs for the third wicket with Harleen Deol (45) to set the platform while her 110-run stand off only 77 balls with Rodrigues gave India the push for a total in excess of 300. Richa Ghosh then provided the finishing touches with a brisk 38 off 18 balls with three fours and two sixes, marking an all-round show for the visitors who had earlier clinched the five-match T20I series. The platform, however, was set by a strong opening stand of 64 runs between Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. While both the batters were able to play their roles to near-perfection – Mandhana being the aggressor and Rawal being the second fiddle – they could not get to their personal milestones. Mandhana took the initiative to attack early on and looked in ominous touch until a false shot led to her exit. The India vice-captain had done well to crack five fours until she reached out to a short and wide ball from Sophie Ecclestone in the 18th over, which she pulled with considerable effort, but straight to Sophia Dunkley at midwicket. Mandhana made 45 off 54 balls with five fours. Before that, Rawal's resistance had ended in the 13th over when a faint edge was collected by 'keeper Amy Jones off Charlie Dean, which wasn't heard by the on-field umpire, but was discovered on a review taken by England. Rawal made 26 off 33 balls with two fours. Rodrigues looked to be in her rhythm when she cracked three consecutive fours off Dean in the 41st over of the innings and smacked two in a row again in the spinner's next over. However, she could not push on beyond a 45-ball 50 which included seven fours. On her part, Deol was also set for a big knock before she was bounced out by seamer Lauren Bell, dismissed for 45 off 65 balls with four boundaries. Smriti Mandhana And Pratika Rawal Break WODI Record After Record-Breaking Start vs England
India's women's cricket team began their ODI series against England on a historic note as openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal continued their golden run, guiding India to a solid 4-wicket victory and etching their names in the record books. The dynamic opening duo put together yet another impactful start in the first ODI, helping India chase down England's competitive total of 258 with 10 balls to spare. Their opening partnership not only laid the foundation for the win but also established them as the most prolific pair in the history of Women's One-Day Internationals (WODIs), in terms of batting average. A Record to Remember Following their steady opening stand, Mandhana and Rawal's partnership average reached 84.6, the highest ever for an opening pair in WODIs (minimum 1,000 runs), breaking the previous record held by England's Caroline Atkins and Sarah Taylor (68.8). Best average for an opening pair in WODIs (min 1,000 runs) 84.6 - Smriti Mandhana-Pratika Rawal (IND)* 68.8 - Caroline Atkins-Sarah Taylor (ENG) 63.4 - Rachael Haynes-Alyssa Healy (AUS) 62.8 - Tammy Beaumont-Amy Jones (ENG) 52.9 - Belinda Clark -Lisa Keightley (AUS) How the Match Unfolded England Women, after being put to bat first, posted a solid 258/6 thanks to middle-order contributions. India's chase began with composure as Mandhana and Rawal built a confident opening stand. Smriti Mandhana scored a brisk 28 off 24 balls, hitting five boundaries before being dismissed by Lauren Bell. Pratika Rawal, calm and methodical, anchored the innings with 36 runs off 51 deliveries, seeing off the new ball and providing much-needed stability. While the two openers fell before reaching big personal scores, their early work ensured India had the platform to launch a successful chase, later driven home by the middle-order batters. Series Impact and What's Next India now leads the three-match ODI series 1-0, gaining confidence ahead of the next clash. The team's bench strength, strong batting foundation, and youthful enthusiasm are key assets in their World Cup build-up. While England had their moments, including breakthroughs by Ecclestone and Lauren Bell, they were unable to put consistent pressure on India's top order. England coach Charlotte Edwards admitted post-match: 'There are positives to take, but we were outplayed in the first 15 overs. Mandhana and Rawal were too good."
