Shelby County prepares for severe weather risk and potential damage
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — With such strong winds from severe weather, there is a possibility of structural damage due to fallen trees on Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service, Memphis is at a slight risk for severe weather. The Shelby County Emergency Management is preparing in case of widespread damage. 'They're going to be calling me. So we'll just have this be a first come, first serve anything else,' said Ryan Clark, owner of Ryan's Lawn Service. 'Well, you could see downed power lines. You could see trees falling, blocking roadways. So we are just asking the citizens to pay attention and be aware of your surroundings,' said Keith Staples, Deputy Administrator of Shelby County Emergency Management. 'If for some reason you see a downed power line, do not drive over it. Just proceed with caution.' MLGW making repairs to pole crashing down in Midtown Ryan Clark with Ryan's Lawn Service has been providing tree-cutting services in and around Memphis for over 20 years. His crew had to wrap up early due to the weather. 'We keep tarps, and I also have a few generators that I rent out to certain customers, and I try to save those for, you know, more or less the elderly,' said Clark. 'And you know, we just we rent them out for, you know, pennies on the dollar on, you know, what it would cost if you were to buy one.' To be safe from the weather, keep an emergency weather kit handy. 'So, you want to have water, you want to have flashlights, you want to have extra batteries there. You want to have some snacks – those things are available,' said Staples. 'Have your important documents, allow access to those so you can get to those really quickly.'
