Arch-rivals John Cena and Cody Rhodes set for another face-off on this week's SmackDown
(Image via WWE) WWE is gearing up for another fierce face-off on this week's SmackDown on Friday, as arch-rivals John Cena and Cody Rhodes are ready to lock horns after their intense battle for clinching the WWE Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas this year in 2025. Both the 17-time WWE World Champion John Cena and former champion 'The American Nightmare' Cody Rhodes will appear live on this Friday night's episode of SmackDown in Knoxville, Tennessee. While Cena was already confirmed for the show, Rhodes will now have the opportunity to confront his rival. Ever since WrestleMania 41, the American Nightmare was not seen in action, until he made his comeback at the recently held Saturday Night's Main Event in Tampa, Florida, on May 24, 2025. While the Cenation Leader, who is busy with his farewell tour campaign, was last seen in action against R-Truth at the same event. He is currently preparing for his next big bout with Logan Paul at the Money in the Bank event. John Laurinaitis to provide evidence in Janel Grant's lawsuit against WWE and Vince McMahon after his dismissal as a defendant

The case, which was filed against WWE and its former Chairman and CEO, Vince McMahon, is being heard in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. In a recent development, Laurinaitis has been dropped from the lawsuit, and as per reports, Laurinaitis has entered into a confidential settlement agreement and will now cooperate with Grant's legal team. Earlier, in January 2024, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit alleging Vince McMahon of sexual misconduct, including a coerced sexual relationship, sex trafficking, and repeated sexual assault. Apart from McMahon, Janel also sued former executive John Laurinaitis. John Laurinaitis removed from Janel Grant's lawsuit and agreed to cooperate with the legal team John Laurinatis has reportedly been removed from Janel Grant's lawsuit after he agreed to provide evidence and cooperate with Grant's legal team. In a statement issued to POST Wrestling , Grant's representatives confirmed Laurinaitis' involvement going forward with the settlement. Mr. Laurinaitis looks forward to moving on with his life.' They further stated that it was also confirmed by Laurinaitis 's attorney, Edward M. Brennan, and he has supported the statement. It has also been reported by POST Wrestling that the plaintiff of the case, Janel Grant, has agreed not to revisit her claims. 'Grant has agreed to it and has agreed not to revisit her claims against him. The dismissal of Laurinaitis was submitted by Grant's attorneys 'with prejudice,' meaning Grant has agreed not to revisit her claims against him,' POST wrestling shared. Though Laurinaitis has been removed in the new filing submitted on Wednesday, WWE and Vince McMahon remain defendants. Besides, the defendants are expected to file motions to move the case out of public court and into private arbitration by June 13. Regarding Laurinaitis, the 62-year-old was a brief on-screen authority figure on WWE who also held executive roles backstage. He also happened to be the Head of Talent Relations until 2022. However, it seems like the latter is no longer going to be involved with the case for long. This match came just two days after another big WWE show, meaning Gable has been going nonstop. With his team, American Made, he is chasing chances at championships and working hard every time he steps in the ring. However, losing this qualifier is not the end for him, it is just another challenge he is ready to face head-on. Chad Gable lost in a hard-fought battle with Penta and Dragon Lee The match was fast and full of high-energy moves. Penta landed a powerful piledriver on Chad Gable that left a cut above his eye. Still, Gable stayed in the fight, even climbing the ropes for a flying headbutt. But before he could hit it, El Hijo Del Vikingo came in and kicked him, which gave Dragon Lee the chance to stomp on Gable. Penta then finished things off by hitting Gable with his signature move, the Penta Driver, securing the win and earning a spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match next month.
