Waitrose issues urgent 'do not eat' warning as it recalls popular ready meal over health risk
A well-known ready meal is being urgently recalled by Waitrose after it was discovered that some of the packs were improperly packaged and include unreported allergies. According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) notice, the Waitrose Indian Takeaway for Two was recalled because 'some packs have been mispacked with spring rolls, which contain sesame and soya, which are not mentioned on the label.' Anybody who has a soy or sesame allergy could be at risk from this. The product in question is the Waitrose Indian Takeaway for Two (1,412g pack size), which expires on July 25, 2025. Waitrose customers who have purchased the item are advised: 'If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to sesame and/or soya, do not eat it. Instead, return it to your local Waitrose and Partners branch for a full refund.' In addition to the recall, Waitrose and Partners have been instructed to get in touch with the appropriate allergy support groups, who will inform their members of the occurrence. The FSA stated: 'The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers, which explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product. 'Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.' Sesame allergy is one of the most prevalent and potentially dangerous food allergies, particularly in young children. Anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal reaction that can cause the throat to enlarge and breathing to cease, can be brought on by very small doses. Historically, sesame was not obliged to be prominently labelled on food labels like nuts or dairy, which resulted in a number of high-profile errors and requests for stricter labelling regulations. Popular Waitrose ready meal urgently recalled over 'undeclared' ingredients
The premium supermarket has urgently recalled the product due to a packaging error. UK shoppers have been issued with another food recall recently. This time it is for a popular ready meal that may be "unsafe to eat" for some consumers. Waitrose and Partners has issued a recall for its Waitrose Indian Takeaway for 2 due to a packaging error that has led some packs to contain spring rolls which are not mentioned on the label. Since the savoury snacks contain sesame and soya, both which have not been declared on the list of allergens, this means they pose a health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to the said ingredients. An allergy alert posted to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised that the supermarket's recall affects 1412g pack sizes with the best before date of July 25, 2025. Customers who have purchased the affected Indian takeaway meal have since been urged "do not eat", with the supermarket advising they should package it up and return it to their local Waitrose store to receive a full refund. Waitrose and Partners have been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations to let customers know about the recall. Meanwhile, the premium UK chain has since issued a recall notice that details all the information regarding why the ready meal has been recalled, alongside what to do if it has been bought. Shoppers looking for further information are being advised to contact the Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 884, option 4, for further information. Waitrose said in its recall notice: "We apologise it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused." Allergy alerts are generally posted by the FSA when foods have to 'withdrawn' or 'recalled' due to numerous factors that make it a risk for some consumers due to missing or incorrect allergy labelling, or other food risks. It comes after we reported that the food watchdog had to issue the same alert for multiple jars of jam sold by a Scottish firm after they were found to contain sulphites - an ingredient not mentioned on the label. Fife-based firm Sarah Gray's issued a recall for 13 strawberry and prosecco/champagne jams since they posed a possible health risk for anyone who is sensitive to sulphites and sulphur dioxide. The FSA doesn't just issue allergy alerts, as the food watchdog has also issued a recent 'food alert for action' after they found that one version of the viral Dubai chocolate bar contained peanuts, also not mentioned on the list of ingredients. The firm has advised UK food businesses to immediately halt sales of the Noesis Schokolade Love of Dubai chocolate and to undertake product withdrawals, alongside issuing recalls for sales already made. We recently reported that the recall affects all numbers and best before dates of the 95g bars, with anyone suffering from a peanut allergy being urged not to eat the chocolate bar. It comes after the FSA previously had advised anyone with allergies to "exercise caution" when it came to consuming the TikTok-viral treat, after it was discovered that some of them may not have been intended for UK sale, therefore not meeting the high levels of food safety standards.

Waitrose issues ‘do not eat' warning for popular ready meal which poses allergy risk
Waitrose is recalling a popular ready meal after it said some products were 'mispacked', causing an allergy risk. The supermarket own-brand 'Indian takeaway for two' has been pulled from shelves because it contains sesame and soya, which are not mentioned on the label. According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which published the recall warning, the product is a health risk to anyone with an allergy to sesame or soya because spring rolls were mispacked in the box. All of the takeaway products sold in 1,412g boxes with the sell-by date 25 July 2025 are affected. No other products are affected by the recall. Those with an allergy to sesame or soya have been told not to eat the product and instead return it to their local Waitrose and Partners branch for a full refund. The FSA explained: 'Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an allergy alert.' A point-of-sale notice has also been issued to its customers. These notices explain why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Soya is a food ingredient made from soy beans and is used to make soy sauce and tofu. Those with an allergy to soya can suffer an immediate reaction or a delayed reaction, according to Anaphylaxis UK. Symptoms of an immediate reaction include a rash, tingling or itching in the mouth, and swelling of the lips, eyes or face. It can also cause stomach pain and vomiting. Those who suffer from a delayed allergic reaction may experience stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting. Sesame seeds and sesame oil can cause allergic reactions, and these can sometimes be serious, Anaphylaxis UK said. In many cases, those who are allergic to sesame can experience a rash, known as hives, anywhere on the body. It can also trigger tingling or an itchy feeling in the mouth, swelling of the lips, face or eyes, and stomach pain and vomiting. In more serious cases, it can cause anaphylaxis, triggering swelling of the throat and breathing difficulties. Waitrose said in the recall: 'We apologise it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.'

‘Do NOT eat' warning to Scots shoppers as major UK supermarket issues urgent recall over lethal health risk
AN URGENT "do not eat" warning has been issued to Scots after a major UK supermarket recalled a popular product. Waitrose has recalled a popular ready meal over fears that it could pose a lethal health risk. Shoppers have been urged not to eat Waitrose's Indian Takeaway for two as it contains ingredients which are not mentioned on the packaging. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) revealed that some of the ready meals have been "mispacked" with spring rolls. Which means the ingredients in the spring rolls are not included on the product's label. And this could pose a serious allergy risk to anyone who is allergic to sesame or soya. The health company released a statement which said: "Waitrose and Partners is recalling Waitrose Indian Takeaway for two because some packs have been mispacked with spring rolls, which contain sesame and soya, which are not mentioned on the label. "This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to sesame and/or soya." The recall affects products with a pack size of 1412g and a use by date of July 25, 2025. The FSA urged people to return the products to the store they purchased them from for a full refund. Waitrose's recall notice instructs customers: "Do not consume. Package up item. "Return the product to your local Waitrose and Partners Branch for a refund." 'Do not eat' warning issued for much-loved Scots brand Customers can also contact Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 844, option 4, for more information. Waitrose's Indian Takeaway isn't the only product to be urgently recalled recently. On Monday, we revealed that a Scottish firm pulled 13 jams from shop shelves over fears that they may contain sulphites. Sarah Gray's, a food company based in Cupar, Fife, produces a range of homemade preserves, chutneys and marmalades which are made using local ingredients. In an allergy alert published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the strawberry and champagne/prosecco jams may pose a possible health risk due to the presence of sulphites, an ingredient which is not mentioned on the packaging. The products are unsuitable for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and sulphites. Anyone who has purchased the products and has a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide or sulphites has been told not to eat them. And last month, a popular condiment was recalled in Scotland over fears it could cause "serious" food poisoning. Shoppers were warned not to eat Trotter's Fresh Wild Garlic Pesto after the FSA deemed it to be "unsafe".
