Protest against Wakf (Amendment) Act in Mysuru on Saturday
A protest against the Wakf (Amendment) Act, 2025, will be held at Eidgah Maidan at Tilak Nagar in Mysuru on Saturday.
Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) chairperson Ayub Khan, who held a press conference in this connection along with Muslim religious leaders of Mysuru on Friday, said a peaceful protest had been organised to oppose the major changes brought to the Wakf Act of 2013 by the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The call for the protest against the Wakf (Amendment) Act, 2025, had been given by religious leaders, who had gathered under the banner of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).
'This law is unconstitutional and goes against religious freedom and secular principles. It is politically motivated and reflects prejudice against Muslims. The law imposes undue restrictions on the Muslim community and may lead to negative consequences and conflict with regard to wakf-related issues in future,' said the statement issued on behalf of the organisers.
A peaceful protest demonstration will be held between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday under the guidance of Sarkhazi of Mysuru Maulana Usman Sharief and leadership of Mufti Syed Tajuddin.
The protest has been supported by various progressive organisations, Dalit organisations, and farmers' organisations.
Chairman of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Forum K.S. Shivaram, Mufti Syed Tajuddin, Maulana Mohammed Zakaulla, and Maulana Ayub Ansari were also present at the press conference.
Meanwhile, former Minister and Congress MLA representing Narasimharaja Assembly constituency Tanveer Sait and SDPI leader Abdul Majeed visited the Eidgah Maidan two days ago to take stock of the preparations for the demonstration.
