Gas upgrade project with multiple traffic lights will last until past Christmas

Work due to start to upgrade part of the gas network in Penryn will last until past Christmas. The works in the Kernick Road area of the town start on July 28. Wales and West say the work is essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations. Barring any engineering difficulties, the project will finish by the end of December. As part of the works, the gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Cornwall Council, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place throughout. This will include multi-way traffic lights in the area, and motorists are advised to allow appropriate travel time. "Whether it's heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it. 'We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We'll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.' Long traffic queues as months of roadworks begin on busy road in town

A major roadworks scheme has caused traffic on a busy main road through Swindon. Work has begun on Devizes Road in Old Town as Wales and West Utilities carries out a £120,000 project to upgrade gas pipes in the area between now and the end of September. This will see the utilities firm shut sections of the road in phases, with a full closure scheduled for July 21. On Monday, June 30, there were traffic delays during rush hour caused by temporary traffic lights near the junction with Bath Road. Queues could be seen stretching back along Bath Road. He said: 'We have been working with the council to plan these essential works and will be liaising with local traders to inform them of the plans and to answer any questions so that we can minimise disruption. 'We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. 'We understand that temporary pavement licences will be in place to support traders throughout the project and we look forward to working alongside the vibrant trading community during the summer months.'
