Walkerville Distillery District Night Market cancelled due to extreme weather risk

The Walkerville Distillery District Night Market has been cancelled for Friday night as the weather forecasts potential extreme weather. 'We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are making this difficult decision to postpone due to the combination of lightning, thunderstorms, severe wind, and extreme heat, posing significant risks for the safety of our staff, attendees, and vendors,' said the event organizers. 'We understand and appreciate the preparation and effort our vendors go through in leading up to the WDD Night Market and hope the community still supports our local small businesses any way they can.' Windsor police charge arson suspect in Walkerville fires

Windsor police say they've nabbed an arson suspect in a recent pair of fires at a home in Walkerville. The Windsor Police Service on Wednesday said a 32-year-old man is facing multiple charges in connection with two fires earlier this month at the home in the 1100 block of Pierre Avenue. Officers and firefighters responded to the first fire at around 1 a.m. on June 12, police said in the statement. "Windsor Fire and Rescue Services brought the blaze under control," police said. "Investigators later determined the fire had been deliberately ignited in a second-floor sunroom." Then, four days later, police and fire crews responded to another call at the same residence. "This time, the blaze originated beneath a staircase and spread to the garage," police said. "Investigators once again concluded the fire had been intentionally set." At the time, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services said the blaze had caused $100,00 in damage. "No physical injuries were reported in either incident, though the property sustained significant damage," police said Wednesday. The suspect turned himself in on June 25, police said. He faces breaking and entering and arson charges, as well as failure to comply with a probation order, among other charges. Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
