UAE's largest aid ship sets sail for Gaza with field hospital on board
A UAE aid ship carrying 7,166 tonnes of supplies left Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi on Monday to deliver crucial supplies for Gaza. The vessel, called Khalifa, is heading to Al Arish Port in Egypt and is loaded with 4,372 tonnes of food, 1,433 tonnes of shelter materials, 860 tonnes of medical supplies and 501 tonnes of health supplies, state news agency Wam reported. It is the largest aid vessel ever dispatched by the Emirates, and comes as part of Operation Gallant Knight 3. It brings the total volume of aid sent by the UAE to Gaza to 77,266 tonnes. The ship is also carrying a fully equipped field hospital that can accommodate 400 patients and 16 ambulances, Hmoud Al Efari, the UAE Aid mission's co-ordinator, told The National. 'The ship will arrive in the Egyptian city of Al Arish in the next weeks. It has a field hospital as a gift from the UAE to the medical sector in Gaza,' he said. The vessel is carrying 20 tankers to ensure clean drinking water access for Gazans. 'The cargo will be stored in the UAE's warehouses in Al Arish and later loaded to lorries to cross the border to the strip,' Mr Al Efari added. An uncertain future The aid shipment comes with ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas at a crossroads. Hamas is considering giving mediators until the end of the week to reach a deal or it will withdraw from the current talks in Doha, The National reported on Sunday. The latest round of talks mediated by the US, Qatar and Egypt began on July 6. Significant progress has since been made on some issues but Israel and Hamas remain at odds over several key questions.

President Sheikh Mohamed meets Hungary's Viktor Orban in Budapest
President Sheikh Mohamed met Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Budapest during an official visit on Thursday. The two leaders discussed regional and global issues, including the need to support international efforts aimed at strengthening stability and peace around the world. They emphasised the importance of resolving crises and conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, state news agency Wam reported. Sheikh Mohamed stressed the UAE's commitment to enhancing co-operation with Hungary to help advance development goals and promote further progress and prosperity for both countries. He also repeated the UAE's consistent approach of "building bridges of co-operation with countries around the world and continuing to foster productive partnerships based on collaboration and mutual interests", Wam said. Sheikh Mohamed and Mr Orban also witnessed the signing of agreements in areas including data centres and artificial intelligence projects, renewable energy, food and agriculture, family and youth policy, government development, energy storage systems and defence. Mr Orban later hosted a state dinner in honour of the President and the Emirati delegation, which was attended by Hungarian ministers and senior officials.

New 190-unit residential development to come up in Sharjah
HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved the development of a new residential area for citizens in Al Dahiyat suburb of Kalba, comprising 190 residential plots, a main park, and a mosque, reported Wam. The first phase will begin with the construction of 54 residential units, it stated. The Kalba City has several ongoing projects such as Al Hiyar Lake project and Arab Tiger Reserve project, which will add to the city's array of tourism, environmental, and recreational developments. Sheikh Dr. Sultan recently conducted an inspection tour of Al Hiyar Lake project, which will consist of four main lakes and rest areas equipped with comprehensive facilities. These will include a barbecue area for family and visitor entertainment, and a children's play area. He also reviewed the Arab Tiger Reserve project, which will encompass vast natural areas capable of accommodating dozens of Arab tigers, said the Wam report.. Located in the Hafyah Mountains of Kalba, the project will span an area of 40 hectares, offering stunning views of the mountains, Kalba City, and the Gulf of Oman. The reserve will feature strategic viewing points for visitors to observe the tigers in their natural habitat, it added.
