The forgotten social grant: 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid
2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid is a stipend like no other offered by the South African Social Security Agency. As the name suggests, it is paid in addition to a beneficiary's existing government grant. So, who is eligible for 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid, how much does it pay, and how can you go about securing it? Well, 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid is provided only to the neediest SASSA recipients. Therefore, it is only available to Disability, Older Persons, Care Dependency and War Veterans grant beneficiaries. This makes it the same as SASSA Child Support Grant, which is paid out to more than 14-million residents. Previously, the additional grant paid out R530. To be approved for 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid you must already be a 'core' grant recipient. And in the eyes of the state, you must be unable to care for yourself fully, so as to require at-home care. While SASSA is making every effort to verify the identities of all its clients, so people don't take advantage of the scheme, how does it verify 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid exactly? If you believe you need the additional money, you must go consult with a private or government doctor. And they must supply you with a medical assessment stating you need full-time care from SASSA. Sassa warns that more 200 000 will experience grant delays
Sassa is expected to disburse June payments to permanent grant beneficiaries next week. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed that more than 200 000 social grant beneficiaries are expected to experience delays in receiving their monthly grants. Sassa is expected to disburse June payments to permanent grant beneficiaries next week. Double payments The agency said that in collaboration with registered Credit Bureaus, it has identified approximately 210 000 social grant beneficiaries who appear to be receiving income that was not truthfully disclosed to the Agency. Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi, in accordance with the Social Assistance Act and its regulations, beneficiaries are legally required to fully disclose all sources of income during their initial application. Warning: Non-compliance breaches the Act Letsatsi said recipients are also obligated to inform Sassa of any changes to their financial circumstances after their application has been approved. 'Failure to comply with these requirements constitutes a violation of the Act and may result in corrective action. 'As part of this initiative, social grant payments for the affected beneficiaries will be delayed in the June 2025 payment cycle. These individuals are required to present themselves at their nearest Sassa local offices for a grant review within 30 days from this notice date, in line with Regulation 30 of the Social Assistance Act,' Letsatsi said. 'Continued non-compliance may lead to the permanent lapsing of their grants. Sassa encourages all beneficiaries to disclose any alternative sources of income and to report any additional bank accounts not previously declared. 'Sassa reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on fraud, and should there be evidence of any officials colluding with beneficiaries to defraud the system, immediate disciplinary and legal action will be taken to safeguard the integrity of the Agency and prevent financial losses,' Letsatsi said. Letsatsi urged beneficiaries still using the green bar-coded ID book to replace it with the smart ID card, due to the increased risk of fraud associated with the older ID format. Changes in financial circumstances Letsatsi said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that beneficiaries confirm any changes in the financial circumstances of the beneficiaries and for them to update their personal details. 'It also seeks to address potential inclusion errors in the current social security system. A beneficiary may have qualified for a grant at the time of application, but improved material conditions over time may render them ineligible'. Sassa grant reminder: When and where to collect your money in June
Beneficiaries of all types of permanent Sassa grants will be able to collect their money next week. Here's a reminder of the dates. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will disburse June payments to permanent grant beneficiaries next week. The agency disburses more than 19 million permanent grant payments, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid. In addition, the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant has served as a lifeline to about eight million South Africans, refugees and asylum seekers since May 2020. Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 3 June Disability Grant: Wednesday, 4 June Children's grants: Thursday, 5 June Increased Sassa grant amounts This year's first increase took effect in April: Old Age (60-74 years) and Disability grants by R130 to R2,315; Old Age (75+ years) Grant by R135 to R2,335; to R2,335; War Veterans Grant by R130 to R2,315; Care Dependency Grant by R130 to R2,315 Child Support Grant by R30 to R560; and Foster Care Grant by R70 to R1,250. NOTE: Not all grant beneficiaries will benefit from this year's second increase, which will be implemented from 1 October. This is a convenient payment method, as you can access your money at any time after Sassa makes the payment. Retail outlets Sassa grants are paid to selected stores around the country. Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer stores, Usave stores, OK and Checkers all distribute social grants. Mobile cash pay points There are also mobile cash pay points where you can collect your money.
