Wayfair Poised For Q2 Sales Beat On Strong Inventory, Vendor Promotions

Wayfair (NYSE:W) is gearing up to release its second-quarter earnings before the market opens on August 4, with expectations of surpassing Street estimates for both sales and profitability. On Monday, Bank of America Securities analyst Curtis Nagle reiterated a Neutral rating on Wayfair, setting a price forecast of $60. Nagle's projection of $3.15 billion in second-quarter sales surpasses the Street's consensus of $3.12 billion. This more bullish outlook is attributed to stronger-than-expected industry trends, increased inventory availability driven by higher utilization of Wayfair's CastleGate system, and effective vendor-funded analyst's EBITDA estimate of $153 million also exceeds the Street's $146 million, fueled by expectations of higher gross profit dollars due to greater flow-through and leverage from Selling, Operations, Technology, General & Administrative expenses, particularly from a right-sizing of the company's tech headcount. Supporting these positive trends, Bank of America's aggregated credit and debit card data indicated a slight improvement in online furniture spending, which declined by 0.8% year-over-year in the second quarter, compared to a 1.6% decline in the first quarter. Nagle suggests that these improving trends could signify a pull-forward in demand and increased promotional spending, although this might potentially come at the expense of industry sales later in the year. He further noted that accelerating web and app trends suggest Wayfair is continuing to gain market share, driven by better product availability and vendor-funded promotions. Consequently, Nagle raised his second-quarter sales estimate by 1% to $3.15 billion and his EBITDA estimate by 2%. Looking ahead to the third quarter, Nagle also increased his sales estimate by 1% to $2.86 billion, which aligns closely with the Street's estimate of $2.87 billion. This adjustment reflects the better-than-expected performance of consumer spending and the broader furnishings category. Furthermore, concerns regarding tariffs appear to be easing following Vietnam's trade deal, despite an August 1 deadline. The extended Black Friday in July event also indicates a healthy supply on the site, likely as vendors increasingly leverage CastleGate. Nagle sees this event as an additional opportunity for Wayfair to drive incremental sales. However, he maintained his fourth-quarter estimates, primarily due to tougher year-over-year comparisons. While tariff concerns are abating, they remain a significant point of discussion for Wayfair. As such, topics on the upcoming earnings call are likely to revolve around the potential impact of tariffs on second-half 2025 trends and how vendors are navigating these challenges, particularly through CastleGate, vendor-funded promotions, and renegotiations. Nagle observed that the current share price already reflects the potential upside from easing tariffs and healthy supply trends. Price Action: Wayfair shares are trading lower by 1.51% to $55.59 at last check Monday. This one keeps all the post-fun dirt and debris outside. Plus, it's nonslip — let the kids run wild. Promising review: "Thicker than the big box stores and so many other sizes. And no, you don't have to be a pro to install these. This set includes 25 fence review: "Great fence! Sturdy enough to discourage my dogs from going into the flower bed while being pretty to look at. Installing the fencing is easy; however, there is some assembly required before you can put up the fence, which was a little time-consuming. Overall, I would buy this product again!!" —Linda Price: $63.10 (originally $71.72) A cart cooler with wheels to serve drinks fresh and cold. It doubles as a serving station and even has a warming function to keep your food toasty. Cold fries should honestly be banned after this. Promising review: "Looks good, has nice weight. Follow-up — we have had this cooler for over a year — we use it every time we are in the backyard kitchen. Our adult grandchildren use it to keep their adult drinks cool/cold. It is very easy to drain and wipe out. So far, it is standing up to our AZ heat." —James Price: pre-order it for $179.95 (originally $231.56) A large tilt umbrella that moves according to you, not the other way around. It is weather-resistant, so you won't have to drag it inside the moment a single drop of rain dares to fall. Promising review: "The umbrella is big, sturdy, and bold. We bought it to cover our dining set and chairs. It joins our carpets, adding a pop of color against our blue house and our new grey patio. We also have the Renya 40 lb umbrella base, which holds it nicely and firmly." —MartaPrice: $117.99 (available in five colors) A two-person hammock, because you don't have to go to a beach resort to enjoy a lazy afternoon with that Colleen Hoover book you've already read way too many times. This one's got a cozy seat and can even be placed indoors. Promising review: "Absolutely love the chair. Sturdy quality. Highly recommend it. Assembly is easy. It comes folded in half and is hard to squeeze together while putting in the bolt that holds it on your own. Two people would make quick work of assembling it. Doable with one person with strong hands or clamps. Great addition to our deck! Ordered two more as a group wedding gift too!" —Michelle Price: $306.99 (originally $344.99, available in six colors) A bench that hides a secret storage compartment. Toss those cushions, toys, and tools within a few minutes at the end of the day. Got unexpected guests? They'll never guess you cleaned up in record time! Promising review: "Awesome storage bench! Love it, went together with ease, and the pieces fit correctly! I cannot attest to the waterproof effect since it hasn't been in the rain to date! The bench is very sturdy, and the storage area is quite adequate to store my pillows and accessories! Adding a cushion and some pillows just brings it up a notch….very attractive! I'm delighted with this item and can highly recommend it! Better than any deck box I've ever had and at 78 years old, I've had my share…this outshines them all!" —Selma Price: $123.69 (originally $199.99, available in three colors) A smokeless firepit, perfect for those long nights where ghost stories are a must. S'mores are optional, but highly encouraged. Promising review: "Amazing fire table! Arrived very well packaged, aesthetically pleasing, great size, and overall happy with the purchase! The propane tank holder is nice as a side table as well!" —KourtneyPrice: $709.99 (original price $789.99, available in two colors) A wind chime to channel some carefree energy. This one plays the soothing "Amazing Grace" melody, adding a peaceful background vibe to your space. Promising review: "I love the sound. Watch your favorite movies or catch up on the latest shows under the stars — such a fun date-night idea! Promising review: "Such a fun set up for outdoor movie night! Super easy to get set up and pack away with a great travel bag included. Grow flowers, herbs, vegetables, or add vines for that cottagecore vibes. Promising review: "Excellent quality and gorgeous look! I got five of them, and it completely changed my backyard. I used to block my side view and use it as my garden. Perfection! I highly recommend it! I also added a green panel on its black to block completely the view from the neighbors outside. It turned out beautiful!" —DianaPrice: $129.99 (originally $220.89, available in two colors)
